Food is excellent. Staff friendly, great service. Atmosphere great. Highly recommend!! Aesthetically very pleasing. The spaces are so well thought out.

We had a family reunion there last weekend and it was an ideal location for everyone, the food was terrific, the staff very friendly and worked really hard to make our time great. We had our sit down meal in the closed room function space and then we all moved out to the open air, which after such a lovely meal and being so well looked after by the staff, the fresh air was a nice change. Our event was managed very well as there were many staff on that day and night. I strongly recommend it for large groups as we had a fabulous time and was well looked after, maybe even spoilt !!

Rooms were great, stayed in the accommodation for a private function but were constantly 'spoken to' by the not so happy manager.
We're never in the right spot, we're having too much fun or just simply stared at for even existing.
If she wasn't there stay would have been perfect but unfortunately we ran into her EVERY SINGLE DAY.
She either needs a drink or a chill pill to relax and the stay would have been perfect.
Thank you to everyone else that made our stay enjoyable, just not the grinch of Mackay.

Enjoyed a really nice lunch here today. Eye Fillet steak with chips and veg. Pepper sauce tasted like pepper which was very nice. The steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. Couldn't fault it.

Don't let the reviews throw you; the Metropolitan is a fantastic spot. While the rooms and common areas are a bit tired, the staff make up for it in spades. Had a beer with a few locals and they were great craic, the bar/outdoor areas are a nice mix of atmosphere and cleanliness with the bonus of pool tables everywhere

The music volume/light is definitely an issue staying here, but on a Tuesday night was over relatively early - they're an Aussie Hotel not a Hilton, and I wouldn't expect them to ruin their main trade so whinging guests can get to bed a couple hours early; would be disruptive enough to give it a miss Friday-Sunday though.

So it's not bad for a budget place my aircon sucks big time. Anyway that's okay, what has pissed me off the most is the gay guy who works at the bar also not just him the kiwi girl and one other. I'm trying to get served by a lovely bloke chubby girl and those 3 are yelling and interrupting me and her ordinary my meal. It took me to turn to the gay giy and say did mummy and dad not tech any of u manners and not to talk over others why they are talking. He walked off. I get it yiur gay and loude and proude but f me mate I want to order my meal and get it right for f sake. The meal was alright I didn't relise the steak was chagrined not a fan did order med rear got med to well done. But I ate most of it veg was good. The chesse and bacon bread was good, but the chesse cake dame was good ba the christmass pudding bottom not a fan sorry but all in all I give u guys 6 out of 10 for food. I just wish gay boy would not be so loude and proud and have a bit more respect that be nice. U can tell he didn't like me but hey not my problem. Lol 😆 room is good for a night been a truck driver it's good for me. I say not for a posh person thou. Anyway cheers

We go here for lunch or dinner once a week . The renovations are great and looks lovely and the meals started out great , but the meals are definitely getting worse and worse and yesterday was the last straw . We spent $80 on meals and we barely ate any , I ordered fish and chips and I got two tiny bits of fish that was covered in very hard overcooked batter and undercooked fish , extremely tasteless !!!!! My partner ordered a med/well steak , it was so tough he couldn't eat it . The hot chips were the only good thing . We went home and made hotdogs which were 100 times better then the rubbish we paid for at the metro. Step up cooks

Extremely impressed by this place! Food was incredible, staff are lovely and the modern design makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. They also have a round pool table which is super unique. Definitely will be coming back for a feed and drink. Highly recommend! 🙌

Location is good in relevance to town and surrounding areas. Service is top notch from all staff through checking in and out as well as service at the bistro downstairs. Rooms are great for a quick crash and for the price it's good value, fully working amenities, air con and proximity to bottle-O. Crashed for one night and found no issues minus some stains on the floor.

After watching 2 staff members coughing into their hands & not washing or sanitising proceeded to take out food or poor drinks .
We left & ate dinner elsewhere.
Hopefully an easy issue to fix .

The restaurant make over is great, but the food quality / new menu is disappointing. I regularly visited this spot before the revamp. This time bruschetta was soggy and the calamari not the same quality. The calamari was served with a runny yogurt sauce. Before the revamp it was served with a delicious homemade tartare sauce. The grilled barramundi has shrunk in size and served with its skin on and was very chewy. What happend to the signature rissole dish? It is no longer on the menu.

The Metropolitan Hotel was everything we needed for our one night stopover in Mackay. Our room was no frills, but had a very comfy bed, clean linen, and a great hot shower with fantastic water pressure!

Also want to mention the incredible retro tiles throughout the room, stunning!

We won big on the chocolate factory claw machine in the bistro and enjoyed some beers and a few games of pool on the round table!!!

Would visit again 😊

Service is always miserable.
Popped in late (10pm) for a beer and a slap as I read they closed at 12.
Bought a beer and sat down.
Had to ring the bell and wait 5 mins for my 2nd one, just to be told the bar was shut and I had to leave!
This has happened on multiple occasions

Stayed here in July and our room was broken in to. We had a lot of our stuff taken from our locked room. We called the police and they came out. Asked for video footage of the entrance. Turns out they don't have any footage and a second entrance that's unlocked and doesn't have a camera. I was offered a refund for the nights stay (small change in comparison to what was taken from us). But no other help was given to us. The staff on that night were as helpful as they could be letting me use a charger because mine was stolen. We were then not even able to stay in a different room. My partner didn't even sleep that night worried someone would come back.

Absolutely amazing, the calamari entree was huge & the food came out fast.
The best presentation I've seen at a pub, especially the salad.

Moved back to Mackay been for for meals on a few times and enjoyed them. Service in dining room great games lounge could be better. They are advertising for more staff.

Friendly staff. Clean and tidy room. And a great air con. Good value for your money.

Attended a 60th Birthday party there. Nibbles hot & cold & finger food was great ??'?

It was clean but made without any love at all. Big sleeping dorms have more Style haha. Acceptable but would Not really recommend it

Stayed here for one night. The rooms were better than expected for only $70 a night. The rooms were never gonna be 5 stars but the sheets and bathroom was clean. The pub downstairs was really nice, staff were very friendly and the food came out fast. Overall it was pretty good.

I stopped by for lunch with my father. I got a steak and salad. The meal was very tasty & fresh. Did not have to wait to long for it to be prepared. Washed it all down with a cool scooner.

Decent food, few order stuff ups. Asked for medium rare steak and got well done, another person order rump and got fillet.

What a lovley hotel, and the manageress was extremely friendly and helpful, as I told her that I used to be the Disc Jockey there 43 years ago, when I also worked as a presenter for 4MK!! A trip down memory lane for me!! bless her she even showed me where the old DJ station used to be which I remember well, above the stage area!!

had the $14 steak special, it was wonderful.
cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy it just melted in my mouth. i didn't end up using the mushroom gravy as the flavour was too nice to contaminate

The staff are so nice and respectful when asking for vax info and reminding patrons about mask wearing. Sweet and caring in a time of stress for everyone. And the food is great! Thanks guys.

The rooms, while simple, are clean and functional and definitely value for money. However, the food and service in the bar are second to none. Quality steaks and home style meals at reasonable prices and the staff are wonderful.

I held a birthday function here in February and the staff were fantastic on the night, the food platters were well above my expectations and all the guests commented on how yummy everything was!! Was such a great night. Have also had lunches and dinners there and we are never disappointed!
