My steak was cooked sensationally as well as the pepper sauce and all sides, the wait time was surprisingly not very long as well considering how busy the restaurant was. Special mention to the lovely (manager/owner i assume), made sure everyone was enjoying their meals and he engaged in friendly useful conversation. High recommend.

I got the Ribs after asking the waitress if they were any good.
Watery, Just slapped the sauce on the top after heating them up. Very disappointed.

Ordered a rare rump and rib eye steak. Both were cooked to perfection, delicious and tender. Friendly staff, fast service and lively atmosphere. Best pub feed we have ever had!

As a chef, this is the first time I've had a steak as ordered. Cooked on point a d the Jus sauce was amazing. Compliments to the chef, an absolute credit to you. I'd almost given up at ordering steaks at a restaurant

Great location of the place as it's in the middle of the City and it's very clean and well presented but the food is bang average quality and the service is little bit of let down with our server pretty much dropping the plates on the table and not even a hint of a smile.

Not a bad place. Very busy for a Wednesday lunch. May have to book ahead just to be safe. First meal was a mango salad with chicken and was told it was very good, the other one was a pork chop, she said it was good also and my chicken parmigiana was a little bland. Crumbs weren't very nice and sauce was ok. But over all I would eat here again but maybe try something else.

Good cold beer, ordered a porterhouse medium, got a porterhouse rare with a bit of gristle in at least 3 parts.
Steak last night was superb 300g rump done to perfection.

Family & I went to dinner tonight.
We have eaten here around a dozen times before. But tonight we had the most delicious meal. Steaks were cooked to perfection, tender, heaps of flavour! Salad was fresh.Quick service. Tracy was an absolute pleasure to deal with!

Great pub. Two nights in a row! Veges were Ab Fab. Steak was cooked perfect. Highly recommended from a bloke who was born when meat was cheap. Oysters were bang on too. Staff were a delight. 5 stars

Meat was really great, asked for blue and got the steaks cooked to perfection and at temperature. Only thing is we had to wait a few minutes for the chicken schnitzel after the steaks were brought to the table, and very little to none veggie options.

Ordered chicken schnitzel chips and salad came out fast but there was about 12 chips and hardley any salad at all. One piece of lettuce as big as my thumb. $4 extra for 3 skinny little onion rings onion rings is a bit steep.

Had lunch for first time at austral today with a friend. The staff were polite and quick service I ordered crumb steak an salad an chips with Diane sauce everything was tasty not much salad on the plate but I enjoyed it. i can only complain about my chips some chips was cold, an warm but otherwise I liked it. Crumb steak was cooked perfect juicy soft tender nice.

We enjoyed a delicious steak dinner and excellent service. Special thanks to Margaret, who made us feel welcomed.

I ordered a porterhouse stake medium rare not cheap at $40. Unfortunately the stake was well done. I should have taken it back but don't like to waste the food and like to eat with the others on our table. Staff said they would have cooked another. I was offered a free beer. My mate's stake was cooked correctly medium rare.

I went and had a sit down meal at the Austral Hotel tonight, I'll preface this review with a couple of facts from the night. Firstly they had 2 large groups in and they were down by 1 staff member.

The first guy who served me was a young lad with glasses, very green, not very proactive definitely needs some training. I asked for a table just for myself, two small tables were free and trying to get a response out of him was very difficult.

When I did get my drink, I was handed over to a lady with braided her, who was lovely, very accommodating and helpful, she really got the points up for this place.

I ordered my meal - starter of salt and pepper calamari and a main. porterhouse steak (rare), chips, a caesar salad and a steak topper of onion rings, with peppercorn sauce.

The starter came our pretty quick (within 10mins), decent size portion, but relatively flavourless.....just a good size cheap starter. Asked for cutlery, didn't get any, after 5mins of waiting, had to go and ask the staff behind the bar for some.

The main came out around 5mins after the starter, which was a bit too quick, I was barely half way through.

The steak was medium and more toward the middle of the steak, well done, chip portion was quite small, salad had heaps of dressing and the $4 onion ring topper, consisted of 4 onion rings.

The meal all up was $60.00, for that type of money it was a fairly average meal, not terrible, but nothing fantastic, just an average pub meal.

The staff are very helpful - especially the ladies taking our food order. A big heads up for Sarah. Apparently she's a new staff member but gave us the best service. She was extremely helpful & friendly. The food is cooked to perfection so Heads up to the chef as well!

Friendly service, tons of steak options cooked to order and a good drinks selection. Meals all arrived together for our large group. Thanks everyone!

Flew up from Brisbane for the austral hotel, friendly service and absolutely fantastic steaks, the best in North Queensland maybe even queensland. I come back every few weeks to get the food and have a conversation with the eccentric staff. Would recommend to those looking for a great night and even better time. Toilets are very clean.

You simply cannot beat a steak from the Austral. Always cooked to perfection, with delicious sides and sauces. Every time we come back to Mackay, an Austral steak is a must! The service and atmosphere is always amazing and Roxy goes above and beyond. Thanks again guys for a great lunch

6/7 steaks were 5/5, one was a seniors which apparently wasn't all that good? And one was missing the calamari, but was rectified quickly, thanks to the lovely staff. The beer on tap was playing up all night so we had to drink heavys which in the end with all of us acting a little silly.
But the evening was fine, lost 5$ in the pokies, played a few games of pool. We all had a good time. Good classic pub, with old pub values.

I love the way you can order everything by QR code at the table, that was easy. Steaks on display.

The Austral provides the best customer service and is the reason I have made it my local. Special shout out to Taylor, Kay, Lisa and Roxy for always providing exceptional service. Would definitely recommend

Place was easy to find, very central in the town of Mackay with lots of parking all around the complex. Ordering can be done either at the table via QR code scanning and pay online or order via bar. Meal was well presented, although tasty in flavours but did not match up to the description on the menu. Spicy buffalo wings was not at all spicy; crispy halloumi was more like grilled than crispy. Nevertheless, quite enjoy the Austral mix platter with a variety of choices on the one platter. Staff at the bar was friendly but the waitress who served the food appeared to be somewhat annoyed. Overall a pleasant experience and would definitely recommend!

Ate here twice during our brief stay in Mackay. Food excellent both times: a notch or two above typical pub bistro food. Steak ordered medium rare was exactly that. Macadamia crusted Barramundi was nicely paired with an avocado mix. Choice of garden or Caesar salad with meals was appreciated. Wine list superior to the usual.

Only warning is to avoid tables near the auto entrance doors because the smoke from the smoking area outside can drift in when the doors open.

We travel a lot, have a lot of pub meals, but wow! This food is better than any we have had. Got delayed in Mackay when our caravan broke. Stumbled across Austral Hotel by accident. Came back multiple times. Food is amazing. Staff are so lovely. And the service is professional. Love this place. A special shout out for the avocado salsa .. Had that twice. Also steaks cooked to perfection, as ordered. Outstanding!

Large pub in the heart of Mackay. Bistro out the back. Drinks were a little on the pricey side. Wasn't busy at all when we went there. Seems like a locals watering hole

Great atmosphere. Food took a long time to come out and when it did the amount of ham on the parmy was sad and the chicken may as well of been a crumbed sponge. The cheese and bacon bread was awesome but.

Always a good feed at the Austral. Cannot fault it.
If I'm ever in doubt of what I want to eat, I always choose the Austral.
Awesome staff too, great customer service.

Came here a few months ago. It was horrendous (it can happen) But though we'd give it another go. We came back 2 weeks ago, 5 star both service and food and again this Friday 5 star. If you guys keep this up we will be back weekly. Thanks for upping your game.

Lovely place! We tried to come here on Australia day deepened and there wasn't a table available. We were very pleased with our meal. Only 0roblem was the waiter started clearing the table whilst we were eating.

Lovely place to visit. Was only there for a short visit. Hence only 4 stars. The friendly bar staff were quick to serve and explain the evening advents. If only I had more time to explore the hotel, Then my star rating could be different.nThank you for a good introduction to your establishment.

Omg the choice of steak is awsum, the austral teriarki melts in your mouth. Cooked to perfection. Only a small selection of deserts. Handful of cocktails. Staff attentive and service good. Servings large, make sure your extra hungry.

Great atmosphere, awesome food. Staff are super friendly! I ordered Graziers eye fillet. I'm a med/rare always, although if I were to order this same cut again, I would go medium as the middle was a little chewy.
