Customer Review

So there I was, lonely, unhappy and frankly quite hungry when I stumbled into the doors of the Cathedral Hotel. A young gentleman with really cool black bangs served me and persuaded me to try their acclaimed beef burger. He also told me some killer jokes to make me smile. This nice chap treated me well (he also poured me a Coopers Pale Ale with perfect head!). "Wowza!" I thought to myself and knew I had found my new local venue. For the best food, service and all around vibez, look no further than the Cath.

Visited on a Tuesday, tried their $25 curry & house wine deal.

Curry, roti and additional gluten free garlic bread was hot, fresh and delicious.

With a glass of Yalumba wine - good value for money (noting I paid extra for the garlic bread).

The curries were tasty and a good portion size. Could not fault the dishes.

Was quiet-ish, but is a Tuesday. Table felt and sounded sticky as you moved (booth table) but otherwise it was an ok dining atmosphere. Just a Tuesday pop in and out vibe.

Would definitely recommend going to try the curry night and am keen to see what else they do well.

The staff were pretty rude, stood being ignored at the counter while they discussed who was going to change the keg. Went up to buy drinks and again was ignored, several staff walking past but not acknowledging us. Food was very average, the gravy was very thin like it has been watered down. With all the great places to eat in Adelaide I wouldn't come back here.

I organised a memorial lunch for 32 family members (6 under 12s) for my late mother in the Heritage Room, which is wonderfully atmospheric. All of the guests remarked on the choice and quality of the food and the attentive wait service. The bar service was also efficient and friendly. The event went off smoothly without a hitch. Unlike many other hotels, we were not charged for the room and not locked into a fixed menu or minimum spend, so value-for-money was excellent. I highly recommend this heritage pub and its hard-working staff who try hard to please (and actually deliver!) to anyone contemplating a special event such as ours.

I was headed back from Bakery on O'Connell and Brougham Park when I espied this hotel from across the way. I am not a local for indeed I am on holiday here from Geelong. It captivated my eye. My eye lead to imaginings of a raspberry or a sneaky 11am beer. As it turned out, only the corner section was open which is a cafe. Fine, that's fine indeed. Opportunity and chance can combine to be a benefit to you. As in, while waiting with no idea what to order, I saw sparkling waters and -and!- rye bread rolls. Jackpot. I had no belly room after filling up at Bakery on O'Connell BUT tomorrow I am needing premade and convenient food for a long, long bus ride. That rye roll with sweet potato and haloumi will be a thoroughly benficient option. The sparkling water was mere hydration with the light delight of orange and mango. Thank you for wrapping that roll into clong wrap to preserve it for the time!
Edit: update, 28.11.23. I had that rye roll and the first half was better and tastier than I had hoped... Haloumi, pumpkin, lettuce, roasted capsicum. The second half... pumpkin seeds. Not pepitas nor even roasted/dried, just seeds. I imagined that the pumpkin was not deseeded when roasted. Or were they deliberate? They were all clumped in one lump. I gag when food is texturally incongruous; thats not something you can control, obviously, but my point is that it is weird, weird as, to roast a pumpkin with the seeds in - then plonk it in a sanger. I picked them out and soldiered because, for all my misgivings it was still delicious. If the seeds are deliberate, my bad, I wouldn't have ordered had I known. But yeh the flavours and all other textures were on the money.

Decent pub food, probably reasonable priced given the serving sizes for most meals (the salmon was quite light on - about a 120g fillet with pickled onions, a smear of hummus and a scattering of coriander and parsley as the 'herb salad'. Also the pistachio crust was so light that I forgot it was there until right near the end - couldn't taste it) Burger was tasty and chips/wedges quite good (preferred the wedges).
