Fantastic experience so far! Staff are very friendly and welcoming! Location is perfect and night life is great, the pool and bar is a massive bonus. Big shout out to Ethan who works on the bar for going the extra mile for us everytime we needed help!

Great fun night at Gilligan's:) everyone told us it was the place to be in Cairns - and boy did it deliver! Very busy and fun vibes. Special thanks to Tom who was very helpful when we told him the syrup for the coke gun was out, and changed our drink with no issue. Cool dude Tom!!

You get cold with an air conditioning system that even negates all the good aspects for a complex facility and its location. They didn't turn it off despite us warning them many times. That's enough reason not to prefer or recommend this place. We're thinking about how we're going to spend two nights.

Excellent place to stay. Checked in today for a bucks group. The hostel was great but the bar, pool and day bar staff were nothing but amazing. Terri , Ethan and Andrea made our experience so much better. Will be definitely rebooking

Good clean hostel. Stayed 4 nights, kitchen facilities were to a high standard, and as were the rooms. Staff were also very Helpful and attentive.

My stay at Gilligan's Backpackers Hotel & Resort had its ups and downs, but overall, it was a decent experience. Here's a breakdown of my time there:

The Good:

- The rooms were nicely renovated and provided a comfortable stay. I appreciated the effort put into the room aesthetics.
- Some of the staff members were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Their warm hospitality made me feel welcomed during my stay.
- The location of the hostel was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and amenities.

The Bad:

- Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with certain staff members, particularly in the bar area. Some of them were impolite and unprofessional, which was disappointing.
- Despite showing my key card, one staff member refused to provide a discount, which left me feeling frustrated and undervalued as a guest.

Room for Improvement:

- One notable issue was with the air conditioning system, which couldn't be regulated properly. This made it challenging to maintain a comfortable room temperature.
- Additionally, there was a design flaw in the bathroom setup, where the shower and room were interconnected. As a result, using shower gel caused bubbles to seep into the room, creating an inconvenience.

Overall, my stay at Gilligan's Backpackers Hotel & Resort had its pros and cons. While the renovated rooms and friendly staff were highlights, encountering impolite staff members and facing some room-related issues detracted from the experience. With some improvements in customer service and facilities, Gilligan's could enhance its overall guest satisfaction.

If you're a young person traveling for the first time, this is the perfect spot. There are tons of events at the attached bar and restaurant. The travel office can help you access all the great local attractions and tours. They've got a terrific pool and seating area that is a wonderful place to relax. The rooms are spacious so you have plenty of space to put your luggage, and it was nice having a separate shower room and toilet room and open sink so they could all be in use at once. Each room had a balcony so you could go out easily for a phone call or to relax. It's a good place to stay.

The cons: as a party hub, your roommates make come in very late, possibly drunk. The shows and parties are fun but in many areas of the hotel, you'll hear the music and thumping bass while you're trying to go to sleep. As an older traveler with early wake-ups, this didn't work for me.
I stayed there during a remodel project and you didn't always have a working outlet to charge your phone which was frustrating.

Stayed 4 days as what's known as the party hostel. Rooms were nice, I picked the 4 person room. No bunkbeds was the best feature by far. Couldn't hear the parties at all from my room which was nice. No personal power outlets unfortunately. Great food & drinks down at the bar. Nightly events as well.

1. The air conditioning in the room only works on one setting and it's cold. Sometimes you freeze in the room. If you complain to reception, they only give you another thin blanket. 2. It's also unfortunately always very loud on the first floor in the evenings. 3. The kitchen is good. 4. The beds are comfortable and there are power sockets everywhere. 5. The hostel is in a great city location with its own pool and club. 6. The reception is open 24/7 and checking in was easy. It's a very solid hostel except for the air conditioning, which is pretty tough.

We went into the club very happy times everyone was elated! Until a bouncer stopped us for wearing thongs! Clearly on the sign it said no thongs but he let our female friend in with them on very sexist in my opinion and when questioned the manger said "that's just gilligans" a very 2002 approach to things in this modern era! Anyway we all had a good night after everyone calmed down and stopped being snowflakes xoxo

I arrived in Cairns a month ago and tried to go to the club 3 times. On none of the 3 occasions was I able to enter. They asked me for more than one ID. Once I presented my ID and my driver license, and since the license had expired, they did not let me enter. Last night I returned with a friend carrying a passport with me, knowing that security gets picky. I present my ID and my passport and they let me in. Since my friend didn't have more than one ID, we returned to the hostel to grab her passport without saying anything or making any drama. When we come back and want to enter, the security guy didn't let me in because he said I was rude to him, when at no time did I make fun of him or say anything. Yesterday was the last straw, they say the 3rd time is the charm but in Gilligans that is not the case. I will never try to enter that place with disastrous staff again. 694 is the security identification number. Don't go to that place if you don't want to ruin your night, it's not worth it.

Gilligan's is an experience in itself. The nightlife and events are cool and always busy. The bedrooms and bathrooms are also very clean. Unfortunately, there are some negative things that I have to remember. There won't be a quiet night, the bass and the music can be heard and felt in the room every night. The bouncers at the club area are also very unfriendly and change their minds every day about which ID document is valid and which is not (on one day the driver's license is valid and the normal ID is not, on another day it is the other way around). All in all it's a cool place for a two day party but nothing more and unfortunately it didn't live up to its high expectations.

I loved my stay at Gilligan's where I stayed for 4 days. It has a huge pool, two bars and even has its own nightclub!!
They have events every night and they're so much fun!
It can get a little loud at night so if you want to just have an early night sleep, I'd suggest putting on some earplugs.

I stayed here 11 nights.

You get used to the music after a while and it isn't too deafening, and you can get to sleep with a set of ear plugs in. Facilities aren't bad and it's fairly sociable. However I personally wouldn't stay here again unless it was 2-3 nights and I wanted to go out every night.

Security is between terrible and non existent. We had our room burgled after I'd been there three days. Someone managed to climb up the side of the building, enter our dorm room, steal all they could carry, and then jump back down into the market all without being noticed (at half 6 in the evening). All the hostel could do was check the CCTV and confirm to us that we had been burgled, they didn't do anything to help out. We were told that as lockers were provided, it wasn't the hostels problem. The only issue is that the lockers provided can barely fit a laptop in, and many of the locks don't work.

I know lots of people who had much better experiences, but I still wouldn't stay here again as there are plenty other hostels in Cairns with much better security.

Great party hostel. Clean rooms. Socket near bed. Large kitchen space and communal space. Pool bar.

Music plays until early morning (2-3am) so if you want to sleep, ask for a room on the street side of the building where it's quite.

Perfect hostel if you are a backpacker! They host events and parties almost every night, there is a kitchen you can use and the staff great.

Worst experience ever in a hostel. You can not sleep everything vibrates from the noise of the music. I definitely do not recommend this place. there are 3 pots per hob, also old and ruined, the kitchen and a mess of dirty dishes everywhere ...I limit myself to this if you go there you will understand what I mean

Great location, super friendly and helpful staff and an excellent price for king room for 2 compared to a regular hotel. 3rd floor with balcony over looking road . Yes it was abit noisy at night due to nightclub but we booked a party hostel so u expect that. Best bit is that room was serviced daily, I mean you don't get that these days in a overpriced hotel ( based on 2 weeks of hotels in brisbane and port Douglas, no service at all)

I think that if you are a party hard, this is the best place for you!
Keep in mind that the rooms are facing in the swimming pool area and you can't sleep until 3 am cause loud music.
At the reception they give you ear plugs for you :)
Close the the city centre (8 mins by walk).
Room cleanliness is pretty ok counting that the place is the cheapest one.
Kitchen has been cleaned every morning so this is a good thing at least.
I won't come back there and of course I don't even recommend it if you don't like party hard!
Metro shop is closer to the hostel and some nice vegan restaurants as well!

Gilligan's hostel has good value of money, is in a good location and is very modern!
The wifi works really well throughout the whole hostel.
The staff are super friendly, understanding and kind.
The hostel is unfortunately not clean, both the common kitchen and my dorm room were dirty throughout my whole stay.
The lockers are very small, only for small items and one is unable to fit a normal sized bag in the lockers.

I arrived and found out that it must be a party hostel. I tried to cancel my reservation without cancel fee but not possible, the stuff gave me a quiet room. It was nice, no party sounds I heard in that room. Thank you for giving me quiet room. It was pretty clean too, in the room.

WARNING FOR THOSE BOTHERED BY SMOKING! They allow everyone to smoke off of all the balconies so it drifts into the rooms and people smell strongly of it directly beside you which caused me problems as an asthmatic. Also very loud at night not just outside but inside as people don't respect the quite after 10pm rule. But the staff were nice and friendly. The location was great, the beds nice and the bathrooms alright.

The hostel is huge, it has a great reception and the staff is very friendly, I am very grateful to the guy who speaks Spanish and a girl who helped me in the morning to call a tour company. All very kind.
On the other hand, being a party hostel, the rooms are always clearly messed up by the young people, but they still go to clean the floor in the morning.
The pool is very good, and there's plenty of space, but it's too small with so many people who come here.
The bed was comfortable and there is air conditioning, which is appreciated because Cairns is incredibly hot.

If you are young and like party every day, it's your place! I don't know about the shared rooms, but the room for a couple it's really big and all clean, there is a fridge and a microwave at the room. Unfortunately, the guests don't respect the kitchen rules, which make our nights really hard and the reception didn't do anything about. That's really sad, it a hostel who employs only young people, who doesn't have a training or doesn't even know what they are doing, that is valid for the tour agency too, which send us 1 hour earlier to our trip and for the bar or restaurant of Gilligan, which couldn't understand our request and charged us wrongly. Pay attention there!

I stayed here a while ago but it was one of the best hostels I stayed in. It's a big party hostel and if you want a quiet night don't stay here. The rooms and shower are clean. It can be a bit cold in the room. The location is perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful with information about activities in and around Cairns. The parties at this place are crazy! Great music, atmosphere and good cocktails. Like I said if you want a quiet night don't come if you want party this is the place to be! Happy travels

Good night out, probably the biggest night out in Cairns.

The rooms are spacious and clean, they have professional cleaners in rather than other back packers which is good.

You can hear the club music from some of the rooms though, which is quite annoying if you're not partying.

One of the best Hostels I've been to. Rooms are clean, charging at the bed, separate Shower & Toilet, room is cleaned everyday. Kitchen is good equipped, not crowded, clean, enough storage places. Nice places to chill during the day: inside& outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good hostel for party (can get quite noise if you don't want to party). Fair prices for room and drinks. Can definitely recommend!

Great location, very good price for a private room in the middle of Cairns. Bed was comfy enough. The room was very quiet to our surprise, considering the size of the night club downstairs. We'd book here again.
The room was very cold, have no control of the room temperature and the front desk weren't helpful at all with it, just an extra blanket.

Enjoyed my stay at Gilligans. The deluxe room is absolutely worth every penny!! The staff were very helpful and friendly. My super fun trip ended by me losing my phone at the Gilligan bar. Thankfully the staff were able to find it and helped in having it couriered to me. I will always be grateful to them for this.

Cheap accommodations, good location, reasonable air conditioning, and clean enough to get the job done. Because of the pandemic, they reduced capacity and it was much quieter than I've heard it's been in the past. At night, the clubs downstairs and behind the hostel get pretty loud, but I was still able to sleep fine. Two of us had a room for 6 all to ourselves which was nice. There's lockboxes in the room, so if you being a lock, you won't need to carry all your valuables with you everywhere on your vacation. Included linens means bedding but not towels, though you can rent a towel for net $2.

Gilligan's hotel, show an excellent personal presentation and good character when paying, but when you are willing to enjoy the nightlife they judge you by your nationality, making the client go through giant lines to enjoy a beer or even use the public bathroom. Furthermore, the security of the hotel expels you from the parties, regardless of whether you are sober or not, only stating "intoxication effect". A quality hostel provides excellent customer services regardless of the customer's nationality or character. Making Gilligans a hostel with no respect for its customers and people who stay in it.
Obs: security 015 is not able to work as a leader as he doesn't listen to customers issues, just judge and follow what other securities say.

Super special vibe, went for a drink and a dance. One of the only places open really late. Huge interior and cheap drinks. Great for a super casual and entertaining night out.

Stayed at Giligan's about 5 years ago while I was backpacking across the east coast and exploring Queensland. Had a great experience. The location of the hotel is great, close to everything. Great service and clean rooms. It's a fun/party place and great music.

Great place to stay in Cairns. Great value great staff and great service.
Close to everything and not a long walk from anything.
Bars and a pool, that everyone gravitates to at night eventually.
Very important to note.
If you present your room card at the bar you get an additional discount.
The rooms are far enough away as to not invade you with noise if you want an early night.

Best hostel in Cairns with 5 star services and good hygiene maintained. Highly recommend for party and fun loving people. We stayed in a hotel room (double) room on a Friday night. Checkin was straight forward and efficient - note a $20 deposit is kept. The room was fantastic. Clean, a comfortable bed, functional bathroom with a high pressure shower head. Fantastic value for money. The pool and bar is superb for a chilled, relaxing day of lounging around. Highly recommended for a cheap hotel stay in Cairns.The nightclub was also heaps of fun with an awesome live band and great vibe.

Great to be back to have a few drinks at gillies and great to see their covid Marshall is taking these new changes seriously and they're all up holding the social distancing measure. Which means we can all still go to amazing venues like this and feel safe.GREAT JOB TO ALL THE GILLIES TEAM !!!
