The rooms can actually vary a little, but they all have cooking and laundry facilities inside plus small balcony. I stayed in 2 rooms (start and then end of week) and the second room was bigger than the first. Good location, walking distance to lots of options, but at the end of the street so it's a bit more private at the same time. I will definitely stay here again.

I'm going to be fair with this review - 4 stars seems like a reasonable rating. The bed has clearly done its best over the years, but it didn't offer the best sleep. The room is quiet, and the view is decent, but I can't say I'm excited about this property.

On the positive side, the staff are friendly and helpful, which is always appreciated. However, I'm not particularly keen to rebook this one. The shower is okay, though it too has seen better days. The room is equipped with good air conditioning, a microwave, and a fridge, making it suitable for an extended stay if needed.

I'm a tech guy couldn't get into the wifi, bit of mould behind the AC.

Overall, it's a serviceable option, but it might not be my first choice next time.

First and foremost the car parks are very tight and the lane between the car park sides is not wide enough to reverse out of unless you guide your driver. Def not for anything bigger than a small SUV. Room was nothing spectacular. Was clean enough. No real service to speak of. Reception just gave you a key. View was nice. If you're reading this far I've saved the best for last. The pub/rest attached is great! Great food! The burgers and wings are some of the best I've had and quite quick and lovely staff. Def another star for this part of the Metropole.

Had a great stay in Townsville, top floor King Suite had the best view across the Marina and towards Magnetic Island (upgraded from a City Scape which we didn't expect) Reception were really friendly and even let us leave our bags after checkout until we got back from the island...even better they gave us some towels to refresh ourselves before leaving for the airport! Great location, great service...well done!

Had dinner here recently, as reopened after recent refurbishment. Good location, overlooks the Ross River- nice reflections at nite & parking no real hassle.
Decor mostly ok apart from some tiled pillars that wouldn't look out of place in a railway station/ municipal building.
Food was good & plentiful, though menu fairly standard pub fare.
The music ( country crossover) was up a bit loud- when four people at a table can't easily hold a conversation, it's too high. Suspect staff like to work with more volume, it can't be to "attract passing trade" as the Hotel is off the main strip of Palmer St. Recommended for the food, but with reservations due to the overly loud music. If you want to go to a venue FOR the music this would be fine, but the patrons were there to drink/ eat/ catch up.

We had a wonderful afternoon for a family celebration, the renovations have been very well done and everyone was impressed, also a lovely relaxing outlook over the river. Only negative is the food probably could have been a bit better.

Car park was clean and off street. Very small car parks down stairs and won't fit full size SUV in one car park. Great views from the rooms. Rooms were clean and had full size fridge, microwave etc. Air conditioning doesn't keep up in the summer time and made for a rough night's sleep and not very nice to retreat to in the afternoon. Tiles in the shower were lifting and had water sloshing from underneath. Staff were pleasant and everything was kept clean and professional looking.

DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE ASTHMATIC

Rooms have a dank musty smell. We hoped it was just the room we were in but it didn't get better when we changed rooms.

On entering the room we had to immediately turn off the aircon because we couldn't breathe and open the door. There was no fly screen on the door either and sitting on the balcony was just as bad with the amount of dust.

Inside the room there was visible dust, water damage and black mould. My partner and I are only mildly asthmatic and had to use a puffer multiple times each during our 1 night stay. We even had to sleep with our pillows at the other end of the bed just to try get away from the walls and other furniture.

We were booked to stay here for 1 night prior to going to magnetic island and 1 night after but we immediately cancelled the second night and booked elsewhere.

Rooms are great value for money, lots of renovations at the moment but worth a stay if your passing through and don't mind a stroll to the restaurants on Palmer

I've stayed here a few times for work and have enjoyed each stay. Different room different angle.

Great Location, Great Views. lots of places to eat nearby and within walking distance to the magnetic Island ferry.

Great spot, if you've got the seaview, I especially loved taking in the sunrises and sunsets.

Rooms are standard fare, clean, and with the basics. A bit noisy with the yard and trains nearby but that stops by early evening.

I deducted a star for the poor communication by reception who gave me incorrect information about the days that rooms are made up, resulting in a poor cleaner walking in on me in semi undress. Reception could have at least rang the room to inform me if they were going to divert from the info they had given me. Wasn't happy at all.

Apart from that, great location for choice of food & drink. The strand is a nice stroll away if you don't mind walking...the restaurants and views at the end are a great reward :)

Honestly would not recommend to anyone. Room was not ready half an hour after check in time and because of that I think they skipped most of the cleaning. The bathroom was filthy and stank of poo. The toilet was disgusting and stained yellow. The carpets were stained and looked liked they hadn't been vacuumed in months. The whole stay was unbearable due to the constant poo stench in the bathroom - couldn't wait to check out. To call this 4 star is surely a joke.

Great room and amazing bed. Location is not too bad, very quiet and peaceful. Only a short walk to the restaurants and bars.

the location was good but the ladies weren't intrested in helping you out, our room was completely soaked from having a washing machine the level up flood and they looked cranky about moving us into a dry, appropriate room. There's plenty of potential as their aesthetic in rooms is very nice for the price of the hotel but customer service can be improved

The location of the hotel & the size of the room are great however the TV didn't work and neither did the phone when I tried to report it. The reception said they would deliver batteries for the remote but didn't turn up. Also the access key to the car park & the elevator needed reprogramming because it didn't work. Great bones but needs a whole lot more attention to detail.

This hotel once was great, however it's been a while since anything has been done to it. There is a wet musty smell when you first enter and although the view is awesome when you open up the patio window to release the smell you start to notice all the little things that are tired or dusty or dirty. The vinyl is lifting on the bedside tables, the sheets aren't stain free and smell stinky. Unfortunately will not be recommending this one.

Rooms were updated, spacious and well appointed. Staff weren't particularly helpful nor friendly. We had arrived well before our check-in time and had asked for access to our room to change clothes but the woman at reception was adamant that our room wasn't ready ... she didn't even bother checking with housekeeping though. Aside from that, they wouldn't even acknowledge us when coming and going through the reception area during our stay.
The hotel itself is a short walk to restaurants and pubs in Palmer Street but it would seem to be at the wrong end of town - so to speak - as the bar underneath the hotel has closed and the neighbouring properties were also vacant. It was also disappointing that - for our seven night stay - our room overlooked the car park and dodgy backpacker joint at the back of the hotel rather than a water view; particularly when it seemed as though there were plenty of vacant water view rooms at the front of the building.

Had to change rooms within first hour. Toilet not clean and broken, sink unclean, remote on TV broken. Front desk happy to change rooms and got a much better view. Bed comfortable. Stay spoilt by lift break down and momentarily being stuck in lift. This happened to many guests, resulting in emotional upset. Only 1 girl at reception Saturday morning. While she was trying to deal with this guests waiting for service and to check out. Maintenance and staff badly needed.

Great affordable hotel in Townsville. Nice clean rooms with a great view. The rooms also had a balcony. There is also free parking on premises. The pool was okay but a bit dirty. It's a 5 min walk to the local restaurants and 20 min walk to the strand. There are a lot of pubs around as well.

Date of visit meant to be 22-28 Sep. Lasted 1 hr. And most of that was a panicked scramble to somewhere - anywhere else to stay. This hotel was advertised as safe for single women yet the outside lights flickered, there was no 24 hr reception, the key card up the elevator didn't work and the room - well the room. I now see why my sister pulls back the sheets in every room. Do we talk stained towels and sheets? Or mouldy pillows? Sticky substances in the drawer? A bin that smelt like old vomit? All in all - I was verrrrry disappointed.

went there for a 60th birthday party. The service was shocking. The prices were ridiculous. People were waiting at the bar with one person working. No tables were cleared the people from the party were clearing the tables the bar was covered with empty bottles. There were three people working for a short time , and then there was only one person and they were very very slow. Would not recommend that for a function.

The restaurant was closed but there was nothing to say that until after using the app in room to order. Phoned multiples times since being charged 2 weeks ago and promised that a manager will call back to refund. Still hasn't occurred. Sent 3 follow up emails. No reply.
The rooms are clean and budget friendly but the service is extremely poor. If you greet guests tell them where the room is located, explain the restaurant is not open that night. Engage and show them the amenities.

There's nothing really down at this end of Palmer St where the Oaks is. I had to walk 500m to find any restaurant that was open.
To top it off the rooms arent really up to scratch for the price you are paying. I had marks on my mirror, the towel rail was bent and hangs over a toilet!!!??? Plus there weren't extras in the room like tissues.
For a business trip my room wasn't really suitable. The desk has a TV on it, so the only place I could put my laptop for work was on a low table, which made it uncomfortable to work at.
On a good note, the bed was extremely comfortable to sleep in.

The room was really good, nice and clean and quiet.
Staff were really nice. The only thing extra I would ask for is some netflix provided for the tv, full cream milk for the fridge, and maybe some biscuit packets would have been nice.

I have never seen such drama and ZERO CUSTOMER CARE. After being harassed verbally, being threatened to be evicted and denied a room with running water to use for the night. The receptionist threatened to call the police for me and also told me that she had authority over me because she works at hotel and im just a guest .
I have never been treated this way before. Maybe because i was black, then it would be serious racism. The hotel should have been happy to give me another room for the night while we wait for maintenance to turn on the water in my room. There was no need to be harrased just because i was not able to move all of my stuff in the timeframe the receptionist gave me. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because of the ill treatment. Im writing because as I speak I'm at the hotel but with nowhere to shower in the morning before work.

I called in to have a look at the amenities as i will be staying there in mid march with my family,very impressed,looking forward to it.

the room we booked was filthy, it was a accessible room which mean we had no shower screen or curtain. Then we found out hours later that there was no hot water, The staff were less than helpful, and would recommend not to stay there. We were booked in for 4 nights, and checked out after one night. We did recieved a refund for 3 nights but no discount for the night we stayed. Totally disgusted.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay at Oaks Metropole hotel. The room was well presented, clean, had everything you might need and perfect location for us as we were heading to the casino that night. The lady that checked us in was very welcoming and friendly. I made mention in the booking notes that this booking was a surprise for my partner (for his birthday) and I asked if we could get a room with a nice view. I want to say a massive thank you to whoever put us in the city view room on the 10th floor, the view was to die for and certainly exceeded our expectations! Overall, we would recommend this hotel to others and will certainly stay here again in the future!

We loved our stay here - awesome views - so close to most things. Jasmine on the desk was excellent. Easy walk to town and all the restaurants and brewery. Great coffee shop around the corner - Jamie's Joint.

Smokers everywhere. Stayed on the 7th floor for a week and you can even keep door open onto patio with passive smoking. Management should look at have smoke free floors. Horrible habit!! I cant wait till ban it ..

Rooms good, pillows not so good, great and attentive staff

We were very very disappointed with our room, the moment we open the door it reek from urine, dirty torn carpet, third world standard bathroom. We arrived rather late due to an unexpected accidental fall on the beach therefore we didn't make a fuss just put up with it . We had stayed with Oaks in Northern NSW Coast before thus was expecting the same or better standard but was Utter DISAPPOINTMENT. Lucky for us that we'd booked with free cancellation therefore we can cut short our stay as we Will not pay over $242.00 per Saturday night for a stinky room. Few good points Friendly staff Very Comfy bed.

Absolutely the WORST!! Wouldn't give it 1 star but have to for a review!!
At arrival they took a holding/processing fee which was required, has been over a month and nothing has appeared back into my account!
Was then told by reception they have no record of it from there end. On departure from motel was told it would take 5-10 business days to be refunded!!! What a joke!!!

Not mention the state of the room stains on blinds and on carpet which was covered up by a coffee table...
would definitely never recommend to anyone staying at this place!!!!

Great spot close to pubs and restaurants the rooms are sensational with everything you need The hotel is only a fi e minute walk away from the action but it is in a very quiet location

Good accommodation, generally pretty clean. 2 king single bed make up the larger queen or king bed. Reasonably comfortable for the short term. Kitchenette a bonus for cooking due to restraunt not being open due to covid. Water pressure in shower quite low and takes awhile for hot water to come through. Overall was happy to stay for a week and would consider coming back when working in the area.

Nice room and good value. Bed was very comfortable too. Easy parking. Our view of the neighbouring roof was ugly with cigarette butts and beer cans littering the roof.

We were heading north and stayed one night in Townsville to break the long driving. The room with city/river view we had at Oaks Townsville Metropole Hotel was spotless, the room and the bathroom were spacious. The facilities (kitchenette, TV, AC, etc) were good. We really enjoyed our stay at Oaks Townsville Metropole hotel. Unfortunately road closures/flooding made us change our plan to stay another night at the hotel. The Hotel Management was very helpful with our situation.
We highly recommend Oaks Townsville Metropole Hotel as a place to stay in Townsville, be it for a one night's stay or for a longer stay.

Staff were extremely rude including the manager. The reception yelled at me while on a phone call to them. They refused to let my partner into the room and made him wait 45 minutes, as they forgot to add him to the booking even after i made a special call to ensure his name was recorded. We were given 1 key instead of 2 overall it was the worst service i have experienced to date.
