Loved the place.. been there twice already and thinking of inviting my friends next time staffs were so helpful too and friendly. The atmosphere of the place is awesome..Third time now lunching with hubby and it still hold my impression 😊

Absolutely fantastic venue! Classic pub food and plenty on offer entertainment wise. Dean ensured we were comfortable and made the experience the very best that the venue had to offer. 5 stars. Love the Royal.

Went for lunch last Saturday. I ordered lamb shanks which were served up in what I would consider as a record short time. The shanks themselves tasted quite nice. The mashed potato had been heated in a microave and was dry in the middle. The sauce the lampshanks were in was in my opinion too Italian in taste and had an ingredient I could not identify but was strong. My two companions ordered roast of the day which they both commented on as being very tasty. Within one hour of eating I was suffering chronic stomach pains and started running to the toilet every ten minutes. This lasted until Sunday morning. I am blaming the lamb shanks which I believe were reheated in a microwave. Won't ever order that again, that is if I ever eat a meal there again. Not at all happy and very disappointed.

Been here many times over the years. Used to be one of my favourite places to eat. It seems that they haven't really recovered since lock downs. It seems that the food quality is worse each time. Last night had a dry, overcooked parma. Didn't enjoy it at all.
Unfortunately I don't think I'll be coming back any more ☹️

This was the last time I will be visiting the Royal FTG Hotel. As someone with allergies it's hard enough finding places to eat let alone menu items I can adjust as needed.

Staff were friendly but the options I could eat were not available and haven't been every time we have been previous. This was the 5th visit and the last. I have asked my family to not eat here with me in the future as I cannot eat without either wasting food or being met with resistance to substitutions.

Truly have given up. If you have allergies don't bother with this place. Vegan and Vegetarian are in fact catered to. Any other allergy none. Pity really. Staff were friendly. Location is great and parking was plentiful. Good for older people who can eat anything and enjoy senior meals.

Great meal and lovely friendly staff. Wednesday night they have a special menu that has huge meals on it. Can't go passed the 1kg steak; 2 people can share. Definitely be back

Easy and clear menu to follow.
Online ordering and payment were okay. However, there were slight variations between the menu we were handed and the online menu. Although the dishes looked the same in the photos, when you're ordering for kids, it can be the difference between a tantrum and a pleasant family meal.
Prices were fair.

Went here for dinner with family. I ordered the plantation burger, which was amazing - the patty tasted great and the chipotle mayo gave it a nice kick. Service was quick and very friendly. The parmas were massive as well. Chips were also very good.

Very disappointing experience recently. Family Xmas get together. Food was average. Kitchen very disorganised, it took an hour from when we got our first meal on the table to finally the last meal (after 2 queries). Not sure there was any system at all. Staff were friendly but let down by the average food and illogical speed of meal service. We have been previous years and it has been good. Somewhere else next year for family Xmas get together.

Soup delicious we had some garlic bread which was nice a soft, perfect.
Roast meats and veggies cooked perfectly right amount of gravy and apple sauce.
Plumb pudding was small but tasty with the custard and all that we needed to finish the meal. Very full off to the 1000 steps to work off the great meal!

Great meal, lively and friendly atmosphere. We had a roast and slow cooked beef papardelle followed by plum pudding and custard. Well prepared, melt in your mouth food.

Both our meals were served promptly, they were tasty and fresh. Good old fashioned delicious pub meals. Prices very reasonable and ample sized serves. Great service by the waitresses. A real credit to all the staff and management. For a pub meal you could not do better. Thanks everyone.

Me and hubby went for pre-theatre dinner recently. My first time eating there and hubby regularly ate there 10-15yrs ago when living near the area.

Had a 40th Birthday here and it was a great experience. We had two huge tables of people in the bistro and the meals came out pretty quickly after ordering. The calamari salad, roast beef and parmas were very good. Staff were friendly and polite. All the kids meals came out quickly and were enjoyed too.

Staff were excellent, ambience to. Location, very good right opposite the upper ferntree Gully station, it has a fine history which is on the walls of the restaurant. I went round and read them, fascinating. And some photo graphs of the hotel and area in different eras.

Coffee I thought a little bit more expensive than what I was used to hence I went for latte and cake for £10 together. The food was sublime, brushetta, tomato and onion and a vinaigrette dressing( pricing was on par with current values).

Great caesar salad and a couple of beers. Nice local spot at the foot of the hills.

We are proud to support this venue by again this year supplying Xmas Lighting to promote the local traders raffle in aid of the Yarra Valley Relief Fund.
I enjoyed a great meal there reasonably priced the decore was first class and prices reasonable and portions more than enough to feed a hungry customer lol.

Popular hotel in Upper Ferntree Gully situated a stone throw from the Ferntree Gully National Park and the climb to Belgrave. Typical pub menu with reasonable prices and decent amount of food on each plate. Have enjoyed steaks, veals and pasta here. On the last visit we enjoyed a King Avo Parmigiana and the Seafood Basket was above average for a pub meal. Always a table available if you don't have a reservation. You will find the staff quite friendly and there's a large car park so finding a spot is not a problem. Worth a meal.

Nice place, great service, honest prices, and food was great.

Been here before awhile back and was a wonderful experience. How ever today the food was very average. Seniors steak for Mum saw tuff as nails chewy and half not eaten. The Turkey roast and vegetable (Roast?)potato looked like it had been steamed and Turkey tasted like mock ham,couldn't quite get my brain to work out the taste looking at Turkey eating ham. Broccoli was still raw. On the up side the hot wings and cheesy garlic bread were wonderful. Maybe because it's father's day the standard dropped off. Would still come back give it another try as it's a nice place. "Hint" don't ask if you want ice in Chardonnay it's not a thing.

Parking is easy! Ordered dinner from the QR code at the table whilst everyone else lined up to order. We had the seniors meals which were delightful and, Bree at the bar was lovely and eager to help drinkers with their choices🥰

I came to this Royal Hotel a few times and used to like it so much; great ambiance and good price food.
Today I had such bad experience there. I ordered Christmas in July lunch (quite standard menu today) the main took a very long time to come. All my friends who orders regular meals finished the food and I was still waiting. I tried to ask and the waitress in red was not interested to check for me.
Secondly, I ordered an vegetarian pasta dish to my in-law; the menu didn't say there is opinion and garlic there and we just ordered assuming it's no onion and garlic. It turned out there is onion in the sauce and I brought to the counter and again talked to the waitress in red. I asked whether we can take away as obviously my in law can't eat due to allergy to onion/garlic. She said they don't offer take away. Then I asked whether we can get refund or change another dish. What she said is NO, No, and No!!!!! Eventually we totally wasted a dish that no one even tougher it.
How would they (or at least this waitress in red) in so not helpful and flexible. Firstly the menu didn't say there is onion and garlic, then my first n law really couldn't eat the dish and why they couldn't let us change, refund or simply pack up to take away? Why she is so mean and rather waste the food than being a little bit helpful.

Surely it's hard for us to dine there again although it might be just that waitress in red.

Had a meal at this Hotel on Wednesday 23rd June. Service was very good and pleasant. Food was of a good standard for a Hotel meal and would return again in the future for a quick and easy meal. Parking is excellent at rear of Hotel. Nice atmosphere and Dining room felt very clean.

So dissapointed, as this was the first night out to celebrate power going on after 4 days of none. We were greeted by Tracey who was so wonderful, however, as the app didn't work , we ordered manually from staff at bar. We ordered both senior steak and senior Parma.
When it arrived at our table, we thought the parma was a great serving, as was the steak.
When we went to pay , we were informed by Amanda that as we ate it all, we actually were given a main size therefore we had to pay for it. That was not the case at all , infact, Amanda apologised and said she was sorry, but the gentleman got it wrong. My partner doesn't like to make a fuss , and proceeded to pay for the main, regardless of ordering a seniors meal.
How were we meant to know the Parma was large and therefore not a senior????.
So dissapointed tonight with the way Amanda handled the whole situation. It was clearly NOT our fault but the fault of your staff.

Traditional pub food done well, menu has more options than most. Generous servings and attentive staff. The dining space is comfortable and has character.

Staff great. We had Seniors meals and unfortunately the chicken Maryland was burnt on the underside and very dry and 2 of us had sirloin steak and they were tough. Sadly can't rate any higher this time. A big disappointment.

Main meal was lovely (rump steak) cooked perfectly and reasonably priced. Dessert with side pot of canned cream instead of dollop of fresh cream -Not Happy Jan !!Different dessert pricing displayed with pathetic excuse as to price rise. Will not go back again as a result.

Great place to chill or catch up with friends. Restaurant is very good and plenty of outdoor smoking area is nice. Pokies area is nice with good latest machines. Overall a great day n night out for all the family. Nice 5 Stars all day. Thank you.
