Almost perfect, but bar staff ruined the vibes completely!

I visited Coolangatta Hotel last night, and what could have been a 5-star experience was ruined by one bar staff member. I tried to buy a simple soft drink, and despite showing my school ID with my date of birth, the guy at the bar refused to serve me because it wasn't a "PROPER ID." I get that there are rules, but I just wanna buy a gawd damn soft drink! He acted like he had something to prove, which really dampened my night.

Thankfully, the girl who served us our food saved the evening by giving us a lemonade on the house after I told her what happened. The food was great, and her kindness definitely made up for the earlier incident.

So, while the food and atmosphere were spot on, the experience was soured by one staff member's unnecessary power trip. Big props to the girl for saving the night, though!

But seriously what was wrong with that guy?!

Food and staff were great until one gentleman who seemed to be running the Tuesday Pool Competition was extraordinarily rude and dismissive- when asked to join the comp he abruptly said "it starts at 7:30 I will come find you" without actually acknowledging my partner and then proceeded to walk back past our table multiple times ignoring us and going ahead with the comp. Great tourist location if you're looking to pop in and out but came across as a very exclusive and unpleasant locals club otherwise unfortunately.

Worst experience ever. Come on holiday to visit family and was told about this amazing place. We ordered the sea food basket which was a joke. It comes on a plate, $32 and is hardly enough to feed one. My family had been there before and showed me a picture of what I was expecting. I don't know how you can get away with highway robbery. Would not recommend them or return.

We ate here the food was great the music was good but the service ruined our vibe, my partner order drinks over loud music and forgot to say please and barmaid pulled him up on this over the loud music it was a really awkward conversation when we just wanted drinks and enjoy our night, not to be given any lessons by the bar kept. She refused service, withholding drinks or toying with customers what a joke and a disgrace for customer service. We are paying customers. Not there getting free drinks or free service. Our mistake was returning again last night only to be attacked again by her asking if we bought our manners this time! We just left... I don't know why a venue would keep such a person.

These idiots advertise open to 2am and bars closed at 1245 while a live band is killing it. Bar staff are absolute flops. What ever happened to last call? Even when they do serve you there is zero eye contact or customer service. The 14 year old looking bar staff couldn't wait to shut it down and get out of there when the house is full. Won't be coming back!

Connor attended to me while I was utilising the poker machines in the gaming room, he provided amazing service to me and my partner. Excellent service, entertaining and knowledgeable. I don't often leave reviews, but I can't help but acknowledge how great Connor is at his job

Location! Location! It's awesome to sit along the front, watch the waves, watch the people, hear the riff raff. The staff here are awesome, great pool tables and usually some wicked local entertainment!!!

Very popular place for dinner. Service is good, staff are friendly. Sit inside or on the verandah overlooking to sea. Steak was very nice and cooked to perfection. House wine is very nice.

We visited the hotel for a meal the other day and both chose the keraage chicken bowl. Staff were friendly and the meals served were excellent, very well presented, good quantity and tasted great. And to top it off, a schooner of good quality lager was included in the price!

We were exhausted and just wanted a classic pub meal. $25 surf and turf was perfect!! The quality and taste of the food was delicious, the service was excellent and they had live music which made for a fabulous atmosphere. The location is very convenient and right in the heart of coolangatta esplanade. Highly recommend this stop and we will be back!

Had many a meal here over the years and all satisfactory, until today. Had a senior steak, salad and chips. Salad and chips ok, but the steak was very tough, I could hardly cut it nevermind eat it. Nice waitress offered to get me another one but I declined. Found bar prices very expensive too. Very dissappointing.

Food was great and large portions, definitely value for money. Family friendly hotel. Forgot photos tonight but will eat there again and will take photos then. Everyone was happy with their meals and serving time was great. Value for money $$

On our way back to the Sunshine Coast stopped in at Coolangatta and found this gem of a hotel for dinner. Great menu and prices, and the food was cooked and served beautifully. Staff friendly and welcoming. Definitely on our list to come back.

Really expensive for the worst food I ever ate, nachos was cold and wet and even the guacamole was terrible.
the staff are rude, drinks 30% more expensive then any other hotel. Black mold everywhere. Tap beers taste like they haven't been cleaned in years. Venue is old and dirty.
At least the live music was good.
I do not recommend.
If I could put 0/5 stars I would.

Popped in for lunch Sunday during Cooly Rocks On. Had no issues getting seating at the front with a great view of the event.

Quick counter ordering with a buzzer and very minimal wait time for food.

Had the pork belly bites and a Jacket potato side. Flavours were good, and for an entree the pork belly bites were a big serving. Both items could have been cooked for longer.

It was my first and last time there probably. I went there tonight with a group of friend for Wednesday oysters $2.5 special (see photos attached) I end up over paid. I drove all the way back from burleigh heads to get a refund because they were over charged me $37 from what I understood. However, it was really disappointed as I haven't get the total amount of the refund back. To be honest the sign at the front that they were advertising for the special was not match what they've presented at all. And it didn't make any sense for me. Nothing says at the advertised that i have to order 1 main dish to be able to order 1 set of oysters (which is 6 or 12 pieces) even tho I thought I could order 1 main dish and any oysters for myself in just one bill as that was for just one person as it says 1 meal per person. 2 staff explained differently as well. the food was great and few staff members was nice. Just i wont be back there again because of the sign that they were advertising was unclear and i felt this was really unfair.

Beer off the tap tasted like it wasn't cleaned for over a month, probably longer.
Had to ask for our meal, even though our mate ordered after us, our meals were sitting under the heat lamps, waiting to be picked up.
His steak, cooked to perfection. Chips - COLD. Nachos - warm at best. Was going to take it back, but the line up was long and couldn't push in to take the issue further. Tried to explain at the end, but so not worth it.
Will only go back for the service, NOT the food.

March 4 Saturday 2pm . I ordered my meal and specifically asked for my entree and Meal to be separated by around 15 to 20 mins . The young brunette said absolutely no problem with a smile .I collected the Garlic bread a few minutes later and then within one minute the main was ready ??? I asked what happened and she couldn't have cared a less . Not even the slightest apology as she walked away . WHAT AN ATTITUDE . As a devoted regular and a local I just wonder how people like this keep a job . She clearly didn't even note my request on the docket . I hope the manager can teach her some manners .

As seniors we are used to "Seniors Meals" being small and basic. NOT AT THE COOLANGATTA HOTEL. We were pleasantly surprised by the smiling lady taking the order, quality and quantity of the food. Our grandson who is finicky enjoyed his kids meal. Exceptional. Thanks for the experience.

We stopped for lunch, ordered fish and chips with salad. This was so bad and totally inedible. Tough as old boots and cost $22. Partner had Lamb Shank (1 only) on a pile of sloppy mashed potatoes and cost $28. The one star was for the lovely girl serving at the counter. Keep walking.

We had a great night last night, food was quick, Chick Flicks band was amazing.

The big shout out is to Hayden - he is an incredible employee, with his dedication and focus to clearing tables and looking after customers, he went above and beyond!

As per a previous review below I also took my two kids there (3 and 5) for a kids meal at 5pm with a band on and were told the kids cannot dance in front of the one man band. What a joke. As a local we will take our business to the surf clubs who don't tell kids they cannot dance and Will be telling everyone with kids that we know to not bother either. Wonder if it would have been different if it was a few ladies dancing at 5pm.

Fed 4 people lunch with a drink for $100. Fish & chip meal was lovely & rump meal was cook as asked for correctly. Pleasant enough just extremely noisy which didn't low for much conversation over meal which was only downfall really

We visited a week ago and I got a great steak. We went back yesterday and the steak was horrible, full of grissle, so I couldn't eat it. The fish meals are nice plus good milk shakes. A nice view out over the sea while dining.

Very standard hotel with standard meals. Our meal was standard, nothing special, and we noticed other people just ate their meals and left quickly. Seems it's only a place for a quick meal and leave. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and efficient.

Celebrated a friends 50th. Had a booked private room 4 - 8pm with pool table and own bar. After 8pm we mingled with the rest ranging from 18 - 70 in age. Great covers band playing. Drinks were $1+ more than up the road. Need a better smoking area than on the main front footpath. Our party had a really good night.

Very disappointing lunch today. Pork belly and roast vegetables with gravy...first 2 bites of Pork, delicious, the rest was all fat, in fact, inedible. The potatoes were the only decent part of the meal. To top it off, the coffee was barely warm. The only good thing about the experience was the girl who served us...she was lovely.

Get venue for a few drinks or lunch. Lovely to sit outside and people watch. We had a win on the TAB, played pool in the back. It's great to see a place with more than two tables and in a separate area. There is a Gaming lounge and they have bands with great music and rocking vibes. Mrs loved it 🥂🎉

First time diners: wonderful friendly service. Great meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. Great hot coffee.

My partner and I came in for the Monday $16 rump special, and to be honest we weren't expecting the world. It was the best pub steak I have ever had and I've had many. Perfect medium rare (which rarely happens elsewhere) great char and very juicy. Service was also outstanding. All round great experience.

Overall it was good so I rated 4 stars. It was a super busy weekend and they had heaps of staff on. So none was left waiting for drinks. Food service was busy but they gave me a buzzer which activated within minutes. Turns out it was for the wrong order. Waited a fair bit for my nachos but it looked hot and yummy. Shared with friends and then realised that the vegetarian nachos i specifically ordered had added meat with it. As I said it was super busy, staff were all courteous, friendly and really helpful. But it was too busy for me to take it back and gave it to my friends to eat. Lisa Hunt was excellent and we had a great night. Thanks

The seafood basket was very generous, no way I could have finished that by my self.. Not a normal selection for me fried up foods but they cook in canolla oil so I did my little celebration dance and ordered it.. The calamari was especially yummy.. Casual pub atmosphere..

The venue has a great location, live music and food. Most of the staff are excellent, especially the security person (129) who has a terrific and mature manner with the people skills to deal with various issues. This is very different to security person (842) who lacks this respectful, mature and friendly approach.

If you are not a smoker, avoid sitting at the bench at the front of the venue. Numerous smokers congregate regularly within 5 meters of the front of the venue and appear to be tolerated. This negativity impacts those trying to enjoy the great venue.

Fun hotel. This place has it all. Open air store front located across the street from beach. Coolangatta Hotel has a lively atmosphere along a busy Parade with views of paradise

We had a great experience holding our Celebration of Life function upstairs. Georgia was so lovely on the day and really went out of her way to make the event run smoothly with a smile on her face all afternoon even though she was working the bar on her own with a group of 50 people! The food was also amazing and we'll definitely be returning for functions in the future.

This place is great for a laugh. Highly recommend buying two drinks and asking if you can mix them. If you want to see a young man very perplexed just ask him a follow up question. Its worth it!
Security protocols on par with the airport. And the drinks cost about the same.
Super diverse crowd. Great view. Not a boring experience at all.

Very relaxing venue with awesome ocean views...Great cocktail menu and food menu with awesome selection for the whole family...Add these to a friendly staff and it combined to produce a sensational dining experience...We will definitely be back

Good atmosphere. Reasonably priced, generously sized meals. Friendly, pleasant staff. Very good Covid-19 protocols in place. Great location. I would definitely go back there.

Great vibe & had a fun night, bar the sassy girl behind the bar who tried to tell me its against the law to serve cocktails after midnight - as a hotel manager I wouldnt be trying to order something I know I cant get. The venue needs to ensure their staff know the actual law & arent refusing customers & losing revenue because of lack of training & knowledge. Also if youre going to refuse service, no matter what the reason, do it with a bit more decorum next time instead of the attitude of a bratty teenager; have some professionalism.

6 of us went for dinner on Sunday night, food was excellent. Staff were friendly and every order came out perfect. Live band was a bonus. Off to pokies for a little bit of fun. Staff member, Nicole had great customer service skills, cheerful and polite. Great night. Thank you. Will definitely visit next time we're on the coast.
