Mercure Canberra offers excellent service and clean, nicely decorated rooms. The location is great, close to the city. The building is old but charming and well-maintained. The only downside is the lack of a lift, which made carrying luggage up the stairs a bit challenging. Despite this, the outstanding customer service makes up for it. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Canberra.

The room is very spacious, food is delicious and good variety at the Bistro. Beautiful garden and decors, secure and peaceful, vintage vibes. Loved it. And the option to charge your EV.

We love this hotel and try and stay here every time we visit Canberra. The rooms are spacious and feel homely with warm colours and decor. The loft rooms are our favourite as they provide great space for a young family of four. Breakfast was sumptuous as always, and there was plenty of it given how busy it was both mornings. Though I would say the coffee machine was sub-par and neither of us even bothered to grab one on the second morning as we couldn't drink them the first day. The sofa bed could do with replacement due to the mattress sagging terribly but it was fine for small children. We will certainly be back again.

For breaks away with a disabled husband and two dogs, this hotel is ideal. They are considerate, helping me with our luggage, dog crates etc. The courtyard of the pet-friendly rooms is well kept and tidy. There is a bin outside for dog bags. The bed is comfortable and the room is clean. It isn't ultra-modern, but we weren't looking for ultra-modern, we needed practical. The breakfast is good. It's an opportunity to stay in one of Canberra's oldest buildings. We have stayed several times and we will be back. Thank you

Not trendy but good value, given the very moderate price we paid. Staff were great.

Our room was basic but perfectly clean and adequate. However we were a bit disappointed that it was a bit compact and we only had a view of a fire escape. In hindsight, we should have paid more to get a courtyard room.

Despite the rather ordinary look of the bar and bistro, the food and service was very good. We had the daily specials on both nights of our stay....I wasn't expecting much but the meals were very good and excellent value. The kitchen staff do an amazing job.

Great hotel with a lot of history. Staff were super nice. Rooms are fantastic, large, clean and has everything you need. Quite location but still not to far to walk to the city.

However, I would not recommend eating dinner at the restaurant. Great food choices. But very expensive and way overpriced. Food served cold and had to be returned. One meal came back out, hot time time. But the second meal took another 10 minutes. It was a nachos, should not haven't taken this long to replace. The avocado was not fresh, from a dip.

As an Accor Gold member I was recognized for my loyalty and very much appreciated. But dinner soured a great short stay.

Mercure Ainslie was once The Ainslie hotel built in 1927, same year as old Parliament House. Memories of beers with my mates, and my Grandmother, in the 60's! came flooding back, now a mix of the original and refurbished. Great location adjacent to The War Memorial, minutes from all there is to see and do in Canberra, a top place to stay and explore our Capital.

This is more feedback. The decision makers need to better respect the heritage and history of this hotel and actively promote and embrace it. It's a no-brainer that it would be good for business. It feels like Mercure bought it and tried to turn it into another generic motel. While there are glimpses of the hotels charm and heritage aesthetic on display, Mercure doesn't seem to want to be a custodian of this heritage. My feedback is purely from walking around and also eating at the bistro a handful of times. I haven't seen the accomodation. The "MERCURE" sign at the front really isnt great. You walk into a lovely 1920's heritage lobby and there is a neon Streets Icecream fridge right there, the bistro food is lacklustre (pasta night in particular seems to be supermarket ready made) and feels more like a low tier club. The location is stunning, the building is gorgeous and its needs to be better taken care of. Get a designer to help you address these things. Guarantee you'll do better looking after this hotel and its original charms rather than trying to make it into a generic mish mash of old and new.

It was an older place but had lots of charm to it, I ate in the bar and the food was average pub food but nice. It did seem a little expensive but I think thats just Canberra. The room was clean and comfortable and access to most places was easy. Not far from the rail too.

Really appreciate having pet friendly rooms, even if they are a bit tired. But charging for guest parking on top of an expensive room rate is highway robbery. A coffee pod machine or plunger in rooms would be an improvement.

Great location to War Memorial and central shopping district, however we would not recommend Mecure, Limestone ave. We travel regularly and are Accor members. This property was shabby, some aspects were dated and I would say run down, which was really disappointing for this chain of hotels. I called Duty Manager into the dining room on the first morning as Buffet breakfast on the weekend was entirely depleted with an hour til end of service. Benches of servery were messy, some hot food dried, some dishes empty, some bread selection empty. Dining room appeared unattended by staff upon arrival, tables were left messy for our entire visit, chairs pulled out, food on the floor. It is not pleasant to sit amongst other people's mess. Day two was similar, and when we asked for tea bags the dining room staff member was curt and dismissive. The hot drinks area was dirty and messy, again I had to ask for missing buffet items to be refilled. Further to this, we understand that gardening must be done, but it was very frustrating to have the noisy, smelly petrol driven blower going in the courtyard garden for over an hour on our second morning. This disturbed our rest. A very uncomfortable bed in our king room and a dark brown sofa chair that was rock solid. Hearing housekeeping staff dividing up the left over, unopened cans of alcohol from the newly vacated room next to ours as we stood in clear view in the hallway, did not instill a feeling of professional housekeeping. Dinner in Olims Bistro was very average and very overpriced. All together an uncomfortable and unpleasant five day stay. Badly done Accor Hotels.

Stayed over the Easter long weekend and had a wonderful time. During the Easter period there was kids hour (4-5pm) of free hot chocolate and homemade biscuits. They also had kids activity of colouring which my toddler loved doing every night. It would be good to have colouring table every day during the school holidays not just the Easter period. They also have 2 fish tanks on both sides of the building. One has the larger koi fishes which my toddler has to say hi every time we walk past.
The room was massive and had lots of free space even with a cot in our room. Only downside with a big room, we had to have the heater on full blast to heat up the room. For the buffet breakfast they didn't have the biggest selection but enough to cover the standard (incl eggs to order) and for $26 (if you pay on the spot) it's worth it. The reception staff were lovely every time we asked for assistance.
We will be back on our next trip to Canberra.

A lovely, impressive hotel plus, close to everything in Canberra. However, was totally marred by the room we were allotted. Specifically, Room 145 was very disappointing. Our view was a rusted tin roof with a generator or something similar directly outside our window that kept us awake throughout the night. The bathroom sink did not drain/empty. Annoying creaking floorboards. Shower over the bath was somewhat dangerous for our age group. The $30 charge for parking was ridiculous as we were not even given access to the secure car park. And, finally, there was no lift to our room. Overall, we feel it was not 'value for money' at a cost of $523 for a 2 night stay. Pity, such a lovely hotel but we believe we were given the worst room in the hotel. In summary, the room was as mentioned, very, very disappointing. We've stayed at other Mercure hotels and have never encountered the above.

It's a very old building. The microwave in our room didn't work. The air conditioners looked so old and dirty that we were afraid to use it. The reason we went to Canberra was for my daughters surgery and we wanted a nice place for her recovery. This is why my husband and decided to have breakfast one at a time so that we could let her rest. I went in to have breakfast and I informed a waiter named Bin that my husband and i will be taking turns. He said that was fine. When my husband came down to have breakfast they wouldn't let him in because our room had already been ticked off. The staff there were so rude to my husband and him like he was trying to get breakfast for free. He was very embarrassed and felt degraded. The next day i confronted them and they gave us free coffee as compensation. A cup of coffee does not make up for disgusting behaviour. Terrible experience. It's a beautiful building but very poorly maintained. The main fountain is dirty and full of mold. There is very dirty aquarium in the building which shocked me when I saw fish in that filthy green coloured water. The carpet throughout the entire hotel had stains and desperately needed to be replaced. Only one out of 2 TVs worked in our room. WiFi connection was terrible. Just awful. We will never go back there and will never recommend anyone to go there. Definitely a total waste of my money. I would give it less than 1 star if possible.

Stayed with my partner, who is a coach for the basketball team for NSW and they had a basketball tournament over the weekend in Canberra. Hotel was really lovely and staff were super friendly and accomodating. My room was clean, spacious and a lovely little balcony with some great sunshine coming through. Breakfast had some nice options (loved the pancakes machine), while other places for food and coffees were close by as well. Overall a pleasant little weekend stay.

The history of the hotel is wonderful and I hadn't done any research prior other than the location.

Food in the bistro is very tasty as is the breakfast.

Rooms are very quiet, although the aircon was a bit noisy.

The grounds need some work done and so do the interior garden walls. They just need a bit of love.

We would stay here again as really enjoyed the ambience and historical story.

Lots of character built in 1927 but it is tired now.
Comfy bed, good sized room. Good shower.
Breakfast good. Coffee machine ran out and was out all day.
Good sized open air secure parking.
Great location close to the War Memorial.

Stayed in the dog friendly room.

The room was clean, and staff were friendly.

The hotel was covid safe with lots of hand sanitiser and removed a lot of touch points. This meant that a lot of usual items I would expect in a hotel room was provide upon request. I would have liked the items to be made available in the bathroom, such as shower cap, but felt it was a hassle to call room service just to receive that little item. Another thing I usually take for granted but missed in the room was a shoehorn. The only item I found in the bathroom was one sanitary bag, which was found sitting on the toilet and looked a bit dirty.. This was a relief because it would be a bit embarrassing asking room service and waiting for a sanitary bag.

The furniture had an olden style look to it. There was a sitting chair in the room, but it was uncomfortable to sit on as it felt like it was missing an ottoman.

There was a balcony and courtyard available for my dog to use. It would be better if the grass was cut, as this would make it easier to clean up after my dog does his business.

The walls were thin. We could various noises from neighbouring rooms, and some loud noises that sounded like balls bouncing. This made sleeping a bit difficult, but the noises stopped by midnight.

There is a wooden fence separating the dog areas for the separate dog friendly rooms. The fence was a bit worn out. A larger dog staying at the hotel wanted to say hello to my dog, and in doing so, nearly toppled down the wooden fence. There was a hole in the fence, where I think as small dog could squeeze through if it wanted to.

We had the full buffet breakfast at the hotel. When booking the room, I was informed that we would need to sit outside, and that the Canberra winter would be too chilly to sit outside in the morning to have breakfast. It was a delightful surprise when we were seated inside the building, in what I would call the "dog room" as it had a lot of paintings of dogs hanging on the walls. The food and juice was good. The coffee from the machine tasted very bitter. Would have liked tea or coffee offered to us during our breakfast.

Parking was convenient, and there was plenty of spaces to choose from.

Dog bed & water bowl were offered to us.
We didn't need it, but i think the bed that was offered was a raised bed. My dog preferred his mat.

The hotel was nice. The room was spacious with a little outside terrace. It was clean and staff was friendly. We also got some free hot chocolate served. It is closely situated to some tourist attractions. The hotel just feels a little dated and could do with some updating. But a still a wonderful stay.

Clean room and warm enough when we stayed there during winter. The room has a small kitchenette. We got dinner delivered to the room and the food is good and food arrived reasonably quickly. Breakfast is good, and also breakfast for kids is free. Location is great, we could walk into city within 15 min

The hotel is completely run down and uncomfortable. The rooms are ridiculously tiny - there was barely space to walk around the bed. There is no elevator because it's a "heritage" hotel, which is extremely difficult with a baby. The breakfast is average at best. They ran out of pasties by 8:30am. I wish we hadn't paid for breakfast and eaten somewhere outside. The only saving grace was the lady at check in who could see my obvious disappointment and went above and beyond to try to make us happier about the place. It really feels like a hostel and I'm surprised Mercure are putting their name to it. Maybe I was expecting more for over $330/night.

Very pleasant old time motel. Great location. Good staff and decent restaurant and breakfast. Dont expect flashy modern premises. All facilities including good parking. Well recommended.
