We had a meal there and really enjoyed it. Haven't rated rooms as we didn't book one. Food was delicious and arrived fairly quickly. The atmosphere was very comfortable and it was nice to sit near a warm fire on a cold day.

Cousins lunch
Today we caught up with cousins for lunch at the Victoria Hotel, Strathalbyn. I'm not sure how a person in a wheel chair would go with the stairs but maybe they could sit elsewhere. The menu is quite extensive, typical pub food, with a seniors menu for $19 per meal. On the main menu the prices were dearer, varying from mid $20 to mid $30. Service was pretty good & meals were prompt. Seniors fish & chips, salt & pepper squid, lamb shank and lamb roast with veggies. The meals were enjoyed by 3 of the group but the 2 roast lambs were dreadful. I think it had been cooked a week or so ago, sliced & frozen & then reheated in the microwave!! It was disgusting! We left the lamb & ate the veggies - $29!! Really!! How hard is it to cook a leg of lamb?? Very disappointing!! I get so annoyed when you pay good money expecting a decent meal & then you're served rubbish like this. Pick up your game cooks...and serve decent food that the public pay for.

We walked in without a booking & immediately were looked after by the friendly staff who found us a table straight away. The atmosphere was inviting for a busy Sunday afternoon, the young lady looking after our table was very nice and the food was served quite promptly. We were very impressed! Truly wonderful country service! We'll definitely visit again!

My husband and I head to this pub regularly and it is fantastic! As a coeliac person, they cater so well (even having a separate fryer for chippies). The staff are very kind and we love it here.

I stopped by for a quick bite to eat and a drink. The food was good and my beer was poured well. The staff were friendly - Nick made sure my drink was topped up, very good bloke. The scenery was great. Would recommend

Great country pub, huge amount of dining space, excellent food, great selection of drinks, both on tap and not, and really wonderful staff. We look forward to lunch there at every opportunity. Thanks Hotel Victoria!!!!

Great place to stay. Check in process was smooth. Room was clean & roomy. Bed was comfortable & air conditioning worked great. Hot water was quick & bathroom big enough. Fridge kept the drinks cold.

I had a family dinner here on a Friday night. The pub has a great atmosphere and is very spacious. The menu had a great selection at reasonable prices. The wait staff were very friendly and the service was fast. The food quality was great and the portions were large. The wash rooms were clean.

The overall ambiance is good and it has a nice atmosphere although the floors in the front bar are quite sticky.
Although when the food came out it was good we were served by a terribly rude wait staff member Lilah. Just throwing plates on the table not ever saying a word just and eye roll.

Nice place just be careful if you get this particular staff member had other people have the same experience with her as well

Visited for Dinner Thursday night, 21st Dec, was greeted and served by a lovely lady Riley, she was very welcoming and knowledgeable of the new menu, which is awesome. Bar staff young man was fabulous also, didn't catch his name, but really friendly as well. Made our experience really lovely. Loved the new menu and will be back again soon. 10/10

No problem with the service as staff were friendly. Food was highly priced and the pork belly was overpriced , dry and overcooked with a very limp apple slaw that tasted more like cabbage than apple certainly wasn't very fresh. Wouldn't go again

Went there on the weekend and was served by Amber.
She was polite helpful and professional.
Meals were good and Amber made a point of checking everything was OK.if she's not the manager she has demonstrated the skillset to be one.
Nothing was to much trouble.

Country style Pub, with multi room and multi level dining. Open an combustible fireplaces for the Winter months. Medium sized Gaming Room. Street parking opposite a lovely creek and gardens

The service is great, very family friendly. Every dish that I have had from the menu has been so delicious. I would highly recommend.

Lunch in the bistro. Great service and a decent size of Seniors menu. Helpful cheery staff and easy parking. No table service however. Had to go up stairs to order food and drinks which can be a challenge for old legs

Had a snitzel with pepper sauce. Was cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed it. The letdown was the wine list. They have a source of local fantastic wines but use other wines from other regions which most aren't that great.

Chose the Victoria hotel for a lunch stop while travelling. Good food, wine and service! We ate on the verandah although weather was inclement! Staff had no problem carrying our food and drink a little further which was nice! I've lunched there several times and always had an enjoyable experience. I recommend a visit!

Great location in the heart of town. Comfortable clean warm rooms. Fabulous service great food at the pub! Reasonably priced.

Very good service but you do have to wait a while in line to order but it was a Sunday so it was busy. The food came quickly though and was really good.

I had dinner at this hotel last night. I don't often leave reviews except when I'm blown away! The food was absolutely delicious. We had walked in off the street, with no booking and it was after 7.30pm and the staff were all friendly, helpful and courteous.
I had a chicken dish which was exquisitely prepared, tasted amazing and actually all cooked to perfection! Well done Victoria Hotel, Strathalbyn and congratulations to your chef.

Thank you to a great Friday lunch. We are originally from Sydney, you have a little hidden gem, keep it up. The schnitzel was outstanding, our very tall son just managed to squeeze it in. We will be back.

We were very pleased with our stay.
The room was clean, the meals were great and the staff were friendly.
Had limited car park, however we had parked our car out front in the street as many others had done.
The Hotel is situated in the centre of the town.

What was once an amazingly pub is now an average ordinary forgettable pub.

We used to visit this pub for dinner on a fortnightly basis, even though it was a 45 minute drive to and from.

We would ALWAYS got the Vic Squid, hands down the best squid in Australia.

I went back for the first time this evening after being out of the country for 10 months - a lot had changed, the decor was nicer, but the food quality suffered.

I'm not sure if they've changed chefs or owners or both, but I know one thing that has changed, and that's me ever going to this pub again.

The Vic Squid is now the same old squid you get at every pub, it looks way different, the astounding taste is gone, and the delicious dipping sauce has been replaced with a mediocre brown goop.

The other meals we had were just like every other average ordinary forgettable pub - average, ordinary, and forgettable. The cocktails used to be delicious, they've gone by the wayside too.

It really is a shame what has happened to this once great pub - does anyone know what has caused this pub to go into such a great decline?

And the kicker to all of this? The prices have gone through the roof, while the food quality has gone into the gutter.

Goodbye Victoria, we had some great times, but you changed terribly.

A lovely meal with family. We took over the rear dining room with our larger group. Great area. Meals were tasty and filling!!

The steak was great.
But that is where it stops.

The old bloke who served us dictated how much we could eat and thus order.... Even though we were the ones paying for it.
Also refused to accommodate a change to our order.

In the end we went to coles for some extra food before going home.

So if you wish to be spoken down to, have someone dictate what you can eat and how much you can eat.. And then a long wait to get your meal... This is the place for you.

I was there today for lunch with our Seniors tour from Adelaide.
The way the waiter/supervisor organised the ordering was great.1 table at a time.we had 3 long tables.
Meals were brought out per table as ordered.
I can only speak for myself my meal was great & hot.
All other comments I heard were the same.
Well organised,prompt service & good meals.
Thank you to all staff & chef's.
I would certainly go again & recommend to others.

Came in for lunch yesterday with our little dog and sat outside. Although it was cold heaters we're available above the the table and most of all food was excellent. I had the roast served with Yorkshire pudding and hubby had squid both were cooked perfectly. Well done to the kitchen and front of staff for there excellent service.

Service was excellent. Some decent Reds to chose from.
But the pork boa buns!!! They were the star! Made so well, so fresh, so tasty.
I will be popping in whenever I'm in the area just to grab some of these.

Nice place, looks smaller from the outside than it actually is. Good food, good service. Probably the best pub in Strathalbyn.

Great pub with a wide menu selection,good wine selection. Had a great meal here. Easy parking and after lunch one can go for a lovely walk in the park opposite hotel.

Great place for lunch. Clean, well priced pub meal selection and friendly staff. Paella was one of the specials and it didn't disappoint. Hotel is across the road from a well kept park. Nice setting and nice food!

Nice place for pub grub! Paella and Salt and pepper squid was 5 stars. Amazing bar with lots of cocktails, gin and beer options and great service staff. They have decent rooms for overnight stay for couples and family. It is right in the heart of this beautiful little town with lots of heritage buildings surrounding this beautiful hotel.

The atmosphere was beautiful, service was great, however the food we ordered was below average. We ordered stock standard beef schnitzel, the crumbs were thick and doughy and unpleasant to eat. Would give them another try next time.

We had a good time here. Had a nice dinner and stayed there the night. Food and accommodation was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel looks small from the outside but is very spacious when you see inside. Highly recommend to give this place a go. 😀
