So much history in these walls! Beautifully decorated and in the centre of Bendigo, it's a great place to stay if you wish to explore the city. Free car parking during the day is scarce.

I was in Bendigo with some family a few weeks ago and decided to try the food at the Shamrock after a health and safety disaster at subway after they contaminated the rolls with soapy dirty water that made us walk out disgusted and disappointed, as we arrived at the Shamrock we were greeted by friendly staff who promptly got us seated with menus, the food was delivered to the table reasonably fast and the customised orders where made exactly as ordered, everyone I was with thoroughly enjoyed their meals with my best friend having a vegetarian pasta, my brother having a steak and my step mother had 2 entrees, everything at the table looked mouth watering delicious, all dishes were generously well plated and reportedly tasted as good as they looked. I got fish an chips with the chips upgrade to wedges, the fish was juicy and delicious perfectly battered leaving the whole fish with a light crisp crunch and just melted in my mouth, the wedges were great, not too big so they were well flavoured with plenty of crunch, I am an extremely fussy eater and find myself disappointed by "takeaway" food so generally just eat at home but I'll definitely be eating here again next time I'm in Bendigo, highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Should be the Shamozle hotel. Absolutely terrible experience starting with the booking.
Third party booking agent with a website that is a clone of the hotel website, so it looks like you are booking directly with the hotel, booked 2 nights instead of 1. When we pointed out the error three minutes after making the booking, neither the agent nor the hotel wanted to refund the money so ended up paying for 2 nights for a 1 night stay. We were just told it was our fault so wear it. No understanding shown nor anything suggested to improve our stay.
Asked for an upgrade when we arrived to compensate and were told they were booked out. Maybe that was true, but we only ever saw our friends around the hotel and only two other people were in the dining room for breakfast. A breakfast that should have been included from our original booking, we had to pay for again.
Four of us ordered but only three meals came out. When my partner asked where her French toast was they tried to tell her she had ordered an omelette, but it still hadn't been made. Her French toast arrived after we had all finished, without the extras she had ordered and she had to argue to get the maple syrup and bacon she had ordered. The food was also very expensive. $20 for two eggs Benedict plus $6 for gluten free toast, plus if you have maple syrup with your pancakes - that's extra! The "Big Breakfast" was the smallest big breakfast I have ever seen.
The rooms are dated, worn carpet, chipped paint work, a small tv (the tv in our friend's room didn't work well with a fuzzy picture that came in and out), and only single ply toilet paper. Not really what you expect for $178 a night. The only saving grace was a comfortable bed.
They do not have their own parking. You have to pay for parking in a council car park or on the street.

We stopped in Bendigo on our way through to Melbourne and stayed at this lovely historic hotel. The hotel is quite pleasant and distinctive. Although quite hold they have done a good job keeping it clean and modern (as much as possible) with all the amenities available.
It is centrally located which is excellent which allows you walking distance to many of the wonderful things Bendigo have to offer.
This is quite good value for money

We booked this accommodaton because the photos looked great, it was a piece of history. Unfortunately the room we were allocated was next to the stairs and not far from the elevator which sounded like a lion roaring. The room was very cramped, small and not very clean at all, the TV was old and the sound and picture was crappy. For $175.00 per night it is well and truly overpriced. We will not be back.

Recently my wife Maggie and I had the absolute pleasure to stay at this iconic hotel overnight. Our stay was centred around a visit to the Bendigo Art Gallery and the Paris Exhibition which is currently featured. The Art Gallery is a short walk through the adjacent beautiful gardens. Having stayed at the Shamrock before we knew what to expect however we were once again amazed how beautiful this historic hotel is. Our room was warm, comfortable and spacious and and it's presentation perfect The staff were helpful and charming. We dined in the street level bistro and enjoyed a quality meal at most reasonable prices. A good selection of wines and beer was also appreciated. A visit to the Shamrock (particularly during the current Paris Exhibition) is a 'must do'. Off street secure parking is available right next door.

Would not recommend dining here. My husband and I came in for breakfast and were less than impressed. Paid $15 for a single piece of toast and 2 tiny poached eggs. Lattes came out without teaspoons and were mostly milk froth. The building itself is lovely and in a great location and the staff were pretty friendly. Just a shame about the food!

Went to their Christmas lunch buffet with my partner today as a special celebration. The entry area was cramped as staff could not find some bookings in names to locate the right tables.
We both felt underwhelmed with the selection of food that was lukewarm at best it seemed. Our table was in a small lounge with two other tables and did give us a quiet area but was a long way to walk to the banquet hall. The service staff were lovely and friendly to everyone there however were not of a standard for this great venue

With only 2 Christmas buffets available in Bendigo, I chose the Shamrock. I agree with the earlier review, not worth $140 at all (plus drinks were extra). Quality and options poor. Food was not piping hot or fresh, Luke warm and felt like it had been there for hours. Dessert sitting out from the start, just on a table not chilled (except the ice-cream). I asked for disability access seating and was seated on the open balcony (zero atmosphere out there)with several steps for an elderly person to try to get up and down. No one mentioned how the buffet worked or if it was open/ready. Badly organised. The menu sounded better than it was in person. Very little gluten free options, besides maybe the meat. No ham, 2 types of pork, pork roll and roasted pork (that looked extremely dry). Baked fish, looked like something maybe eat for gym prep meal not on Xmas day. Would not recommend, so overpriced.

Pulled randomly into a street and walked into the first pub to pretty much avoid peak hours traffic in the pouring rain. Never been here before.

Ended up having a couple of drinks and dinner. The bar staff were exemplary, absolutely awesome people to chat with as well as 'hipster chef'

Jarryd is a lovely young man, very diligent about his job and a fabulous conversationalist. You can tell that the staff all get on well together and enjoy working at The Shamrock.

It's a shame I don't live in Bendigo. I'd be there all the time. 10/10 all round.

The building has a nice old feel and the decor suits that vibe, however the food and service remains below standard.
My wife and I stopped for breakfast, we ordered two coffees that were OK but not served with tea spoons, when my wife approached the barrister and asked for a spoon she was handed 2 unwashed tea spoons right out of the dishwasher.

Again there was an issue with cutlery. We had to ask after being served our food for the cutlery, the waitress retrieved some leftovers off of another table, two forks and one knife, I assume they had been used and that is why we were down a knife.

For the meals we ordered the big breakfast and an eggs benedict. All the eggs on both plates were hard boiled not poached, the large slab of sound sour dough served with the big breakfast was missing butter and was like trying to eat drywall.

We had the misfortune of making a mistake with our booking for a nights stay. We booked it thru wotif. Wotif worked hard to try and get our money back but Shamrock would not refund us as it is "their policy". So beware when you make a booking here.

Expected a quality meal at the Shamrock. What a disappointment! Thought I can't go wrong with a chicken parma. Wrong! Not a breast fillet. No, some processed pre crumbed thing from the deli. Vegetables consisted of half a plate full of chips (Expected baked potatoes) 2 small hard bits of broccoli, the same with cauliflower, 3 baby beans and 1 slice of carrot. Pathetic. Won't be going back there. Would have been better off eating Hungry Jack's in the carpark. BTW, no chance of getting a park close by.

Lovely place to enjoy a meal with drinks while watching the world walk by.
Being fathers Day and being busy, I would have expected there to be more than 2 staff on.
Credit to the staff that were there, even though our dessert was forgotten.

We are no strangers to the Hotel Shamrock. As we went early in the week and for lunch it wasn't very busy so the service was excellent. We have been when it's very busy and the service was also excellent.
Being a group of 5 we all had various meals from the menu, no complaints from anyone. I think that we obviously like the place seeing we keep returning.

Tab and pokies are great, nice layout, tab has very comfy chairs. VB on tap, happy hour from 13:00-17:00 $6.5 schooners. My brother and I went into bistro for dinner, I ordered mushroom soup and wedges, brother ordered sticky date pudding to come out first then porterhouse with chips no salad or veg. His porterhouse come out first with salad then his pudding. Nothing yet for me. When he was nearly finished I asked where my meals were, I could see the cook go through the spiked completed orders, mine was half way down, run out of soup and apparently there's no potato to make wedges, ordered some garlic bread, half hour later I was presented with a flat roll cut in half with garlic butter and some diced ham. Never been to a professional establishment and have someone so incompetent serving people food or there lack of. I'll put some bets on and drink their beer, but I'll never eat here again, very poor service from cooks, doubt they could be called chief's.

Highly disappointed. Went for breakfast. The wait times are ridiculous. Took over 10 minutes just to be seated. Over half an hour for 2 TERRIBLE iced coffees (literally a shot of coffee in a glass of milk) and over an hour and a half for 2 of our 3 meals. When we asked about the 3rd, they claimed they lost the docket and we had to wait longer to get it. All 3 meals were missing something from the plate, were poorly presented and below average in quality. Not great when one of the meals was just eggs on toast. The staff did rectify our problems, once you could get their attention, but I think the constant stuff ups from the kitchen became annoying for them. Other tables around us were having the same issues. I was embarrassed for this place. Maybe having a bad day but I wouldn't recommend.

For Easter Sunday, they had barely any staff on, our food took 1 hour to come out, was wrong for 2 dishes and the chef failed to mention they'd run out of a dish so they served whatever they wanted as 'next best thing' without communicating. The waitress was unbelievably rude about it and said 'that's what happens here'.

This is the 3rd time we've come here when we've visited Bendigo and the service has been slow and rude every time. We will not be coming here again.

I came here with my friend for breakfast this morning and the food was really nice, but the best part was the service we received from a waitress named Molly, she was fantastic and so welcoming, when my order was mixed up she fixed it straight away and re made my coffee which was amazing! Service with a smile by this lovely young lady, we will definitely be back.

It was clean and the staff were great.
If you are expecting dated accommodation in small rooms with no mod cons such as power points near the bed for charging... you will be very happy. Also, this area can be noisy at night, on the weekends. That might not worry you.

Ate at the restaurant. So understaffed it created mayhem. The POS (computer) was not working adding to the chaos. Meals arrived wrong - twice - and so late it would have been quicker to go buy the ingredients and cook it ourselves. The forgotten fried mushrooms arrived slightly charred on the outside and raw in the middle. Staff were either stoned and ambivalent or frantic and trying to save the sinking ship. Was wondering why it was filled with tourists and no locals. Now I know. Serving sizes really small now too.

Don't bother with the high tea at the Shamrock. We went for a work Christmas party and were severely disappointed. Where do I even start? Our expectation was a proper high tea...lots of bite sized food with pots of real leaf tea. Reality was more of a slap together school lunch. The sandwiches were not club sandwiches - ham and tomato, cut in half and served with thick crusts. The sweet food was over processed and not enjoyable. Coffee and tea were served at a help-yourself table, with hospital crockery, luke warm water from the urn and long life pods of milk like you get when you go to a hotel (only on requested). The customer service was non existent...our dirty plates were left on the table for hours, and no drinks were offered, not even bottles of water. The one cocktail I did order lacked any sugar so tasted less than ideal! Apart from the lovely company, the day was very disappointing!

The meals there were the worst I have ever eaten out before. I'm not a fussy person. I've never asked for a refund before. I ordered carbonara gnocchi. It was packet diced bacon with boiled chicken with gnocchi in a salty oil. Not creamy, literally salt and oil. Was not edible. Friends steak and veggies weren't nice. Cold gravy served. Never again.

Turned up with work collegues (group of 10) at 2pm Monday, even though there was 2 staff behind the bar, and 4 people inside, they couldnt find a way to accommodate for us. Which was fine, well go elsewhere for lunch, and drinks, wont even come back tonight for dinner either. I think its amazing with that level of customer service that you can afford to throw away tables and large accounts. Business must be thriving with that kind of attitude towards patrons

No complaints. It was not what I was expecting and that is not any ones fault but mine. Probably best for one or 2 night stay. We stayed for 6 nights and the parking and costs was an added expense and hassle. Menu was unexciting and certainly not what you want to eat every meal. Breakfast - I hope you like eggs!!! Nothing simple like cereal or toast. Staff levels are low so servicing happened once in the 6 days. That's OK but the pricing was not adjusted. Reception staff were very helpful. Thank you.
Public bar and pokies was ok. Clean. But a couple of intoxicated guests were abusive to each other for good 30 mins. Nothing was done and it made me uncomfortable to move around the machines as I didn't want to be any closer to them!
Otherwise the hotel overall was grand in its day but currently tired looking. Don't be afraid to book one or two night stays!!

Booked over 3 nights accommodation at the Hotel Shamrock Bendigo and had a fantastic time. Emily at the front counter was excellent. Welcoming greeting and very friendly. She was able to book 3 stays in one room instead of moving into another room as it was Mothers day weekend and fully booked. It is an old heritage style building, we had a delightful room with plenty of space. Car park a few minutes away at the back $8.00 overnight and parking meters at the front of Building. Everything is in walking distance, we went to the Elvis Exhibition in view street. Also went to the Elvis Floor show within the Hotel Shamrock. It was magnificent , drinks were reasonable, food was well prepared and the staff were excellent, very engaging, great atmosphere and certainly one of the best times we had .
Highly recommended. George and Violet

Staff did their best but management found lacking. Faulty door locking meant I was locked out of my room for over an hour late at night. Complimentary drink while I waited, but no formal apology or reduction of bill. Gorgeous building, but lack of customer service spoilt stay. Needs to be more mindful of in house guests' needs. More professional and personable receptionist would help.

My wife and I are quite new to Bendigo and my first time eating at a restaurant was the Shamrock & I just loooooooved the Pork Belly so we've come back about 3 times now, the staff and the service was exceptional but, not once but twice I have witnessed a man, apparently the owner abuse and yell at his staff that are the only reason their getting business, and to humiliate them in front of your restaurant is ridiculously unprofessional and yet that girl still came to us with a smile on her face with wonderful service after just getting abused & humiliated. Again. How you treat your stuff reflects on your customers and luckily for the owner his staff are still providing fantastic service under the conditions of which they get treated, I think management need to be thankful for the staff they have, especially one in particular that I've noticed twice has copped abuse and been cursed at for the silliest of reasons, yet in my opinion she's the best waitress there and I regret not looking at her name tag, but she had shortish brown/red hair & tattoos & lots of earrings, thank you whoever you are for your service & your extremely pleasant demeanour always with a smile. Next time I visit this establishment I'll make sure to say hello and pass on my thanks and compliments to you. My positive 5 star feedback was not for the establishment it was for the food & the waitress that went above and beyond for us each time we've been in. I hope you find a better establishment where your hard work and service is appreciated. Utterly appalling behaviour from the owner and management, your staff are the reason your establishment is successful. I think you should remember that.

For a beautiful venue its such a shame that the staff quality was so terrible. We were very understanding considering we had waited over an hour for our meals and when we got them they were cold. The childrens meals that we had ordered first came out after the adults had finished eating. Items were left off our meals and extra meals were brought out that we hadnt ordered which we promptly sent back, but were still put on the docket. We were happy to pay for what we ordered but were told by the waitress that she personally delivered the meals to our table which she had most definable not. She had not brought any meals to our table but was trying to convince us to pay for the meals we did not even eat. This is not to mention that the food is over priced for what it actually is.Was a very upsetting start to the day as the waitress began crying, stormed off and made us look bad in front of everyone in the restaurant even though we were not to blame for the situation.

The rooms where nice and clean, but the amenities are a bit minimal, the water seems to be a single system that constantly changes in pressure and temperature as the other guests use it, it wasn't possible to have a normal shower during peak hours.I feel that a large portion of what we paid for was just the prestige of a past royal visit and that the hotel itself is not as good as it's price.

Great hotel to stay in.Rooms are clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful. The location is excellent close to everything. We weren't able to have the normal breakfast but they gave us a breakfast basket and if we needed more they gave it to us. The meal in the bistro was also good value for money. So glad we ignored some negative comments that were written and chose to stay here.

Poor service, meal was just meat & chips no veg or Sal. Not reasonable prices. Find your own cutlery, pepper, salt etc etc. Very windy on veranda (better vacant tables were viewed but we were not given any of these, social distancing was not the issue). Definately did not meet the hype. Will continue to try other venues which I do regularly. Will not return.
