TRIVIA NIGHT AT ORION hotel: PUT YOUR PHONES DOWN AND YOUR HANDS TOGETHER
Ah, trivia night. That noble test of obscure knowledge, beer-fuelled confidence, and how quickly you can Google things under the table.
But not at Orion hotel's Music Trivia Night - oh no. At Orion, the trivia host has a bee in his bonnet the size of Beyoncé's entire back catalogue when it comes to phones.
He was very clear.
"No phones!" he warned, like a Year 9 substitute teacher trying to win back control of the classroom.
To be fair, he had a point. But also... relax, my guy.
We're literally sitting at tables covered in QR codes to order food and drinks. We're not cheating, we're just trying to get a schnitty and a cider before question five.
Despite the digital inquisition, the vibes were immaculate. Held in the Terrace bar, the space was open, the sound was crisp, and there was room to twirl if the beat took you. Which it did. Repeatedly.
The music selection was modern, upbeat, and annoyingly catchy. You might not know the artist, but you'll be humming the chorus for the next four days. (Looking at you, Dua Lipa.)
And the prizes? Plentiful.
The legendary Guessperados came third (yes, we're humblebragging), and walked away with $80 worth of drink and food vouchers.
That's basically a whole round and a bowl of chips. Or, knowing pub prices, maybe just a bottle of prosecco - but a fancy one.
In short:
Great atmosphere.
Strong music game.
Solid drinks.
Unnecessarily intense trivia host.
And more QR codes than a conspiracy theorist's fever dream.
Would we go back?
Absolutely.
Would we hide our phones in our socks just to order a drink?
Probably.
Would we demand a dance-off category for bonus points next time?
One hundred percent yes.
