Whelp, here goes my first ever Karen.
My teenager had their Yr 12 formal at The Manningham. My child has nut allergies, and so was asked to provide this info before the formal, without knowledge of what was going to be prepared.
As it came to dinner, steaks and fancy chicken dishes were given out to students, and my child was given....a plate of rice and beans.
I understand that allergies can be tough to cater for, but it's ridiculous to put them all in the same category. My child can eat meat, can eat dairy, can eat shellfish - but there is one all-inclusive "allergy option" and because of the limitations and lack of care from serving staff, it ends up being a step above prison rations.
This would be fine if my child was charged less for this meal than their peers who were enjoying a steak - but no, this is an all inclusive part of a $100+ ticket. Come on. I could feed a family of 12 on rice and beans for $10 dollars. It's a basic poverty staple, not a high end meal.
How hard is it to make a vegan meal without nuts in it? Allergy and vegan friendly food does not need to be depressing. And this was.
