We're in the middle of a 3 night break away. Our first in quite sometime. Firstly, Michelle, reception/manager, is worth her weight in gold and then some! Professional, caring and goes the extra mile to get things sorted.
Secondly the location! Just beautiful! Didn't realise we'd literally be pretty much beach front until we arrived. Very peaceful too. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit while you're here as well. Staff are fabulous and the food is yummo!
That brings me to thirdly, the cabin... The cabin itself is perfectly fine. Looks to be 80s vintage with some upgrades, very well looked after and spotlessly clean. The biggest issue for me was access. As a plus sized person with mobility issues, related to a psychical disability, I usually check what the access is like in terms of stairs etc and what the bathroom layout is. I did not do that this time. The cabin access included an uphill concrete path that was stepped in two places. Both steps lead directly into the next incline rather than a flat area. Having one foot that lacks flexibility made it impossible to navigate these without physical support from my husband as there are no rails to aid stepping up and down. The stairs to the cabin itself also have no railing and to access I had to physically climb on all fours, both up and down, as there was nothing to hang onto for support. Both hubby and I wondered how many people had misstepped coming up the path on the way back from the pub and wound up on their backs in the carpark. In all honesty, that alone is a serious accident waiting to happen.
Inside the cabin, the biggest problem for me was using the toilet. It's situated in one corner of the bathroom with a towel rail along the wall next to it. Very difficult for someone with mobility issues to get on and off without assistance.
When I contacted Michelle to let her know what the problems were, she offered to move us to a wheelchair accessible cabin straight away. I am wondering why this cabin is not mentioned on any of the booking apps or on the Hay Point Hotel Motel website. If I had of known about it, I would definitely have booked it up front.
Other than the above, our stay here is proving to be a relaxing time away.
