My family arrived for a night in Canberra looking for a nice pub like dinner, we tried the Kingston Hotel first, but unfortunately it was booked out. We then walked down the road the Eastlake and amazingly at 6.30pm on a Saturday night the restaurant/ bistro was all but empty, now we know why.
We ordered dinner, noting the kids were starving but it was very very expensive for pub/ club food generally, with meals priced like an mid-fancy Sydney restaurant.
To top it off, my wife ordered a vegetarian soup (being vegan) only to discover it had bacon all through it, once she told the staff, they assured her it was vegetarian and said they sometimes use beef stock, huh?? In vegetarian meals?? After discovering more pieces of bacon, she then took it back and asked for a alternate, being salad and the staff had the hide to charge the difference between the soup and salad costs some few dollars really???, really poor customer service, worst I've seen.
The kids burger was a pre-made patty which tasted horrible and the little crratures pale ale was flat. Luckily the steak and chicken snitzels were OK, so half of us were satisfied.
Suggest for these prices that the staff and cook know what they are serving and service improves significantly, otherwise this place will continue to be empty in comparison to its competitors.
