Dropped by the Black Buffalo with my husband for dessert. The Buff Taster has become an absolute favourite. So delicious and a great price. Have told all our friends about this place. The staff are super friendly and help where they can.

Staying in the Hotel and thought we would dinner downstairs. I didn't make a booking and still the girl at the front made room for us on a busy Saturday night. Incredible service, food and friendliness. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Just in town for a day so dropped in for dinner tonight and food was just lovely. Softest brisket and lamb shoulder. Such a flavourful fettucine cream sauce (they didnt have it, so replaced it with spaghetti). The staff were absolutely helpful.

Reception closed at check-in time consequently a queue at bar which was very slow. Almost 30 min to get room key. Attending a function in house so it wasn't like they didn't know people would be arriving.

Food was great.
A small elevator would be good for older upstairs guests.

I have been to Black Buffalo several times (upward of 20/30) since moving to New Town and have never had any major issues (I wouldn't keep going back)
But tonight changed that, I had booked online for 6:15 and upon arriving (we were 10 mins early) but we were told that they had "forgotten" about our booking for 9
Things just went down hill from here, our meals took forever and when they came they weren't correct (lovely staff member went above and beyond to ensure this was fixed I didn't catch her name)
But the food was a solid 4/10 tonight, the beef and Guinness pie was the only thing that was fully eaten everything else was very unlike the usual meals at buffalo.

When I spoke to staff about our extensive wait times and meals, she was very sorry and had refunded one of the meals (as it had been sent out wrong, and then forgotten about it did not come out for an hour and 15 min)
Will take some time away from here but as I've said this was the first time it has been bad enough to give a negative review.

As stated the woman was fabulous just seemed to be very understaffed, but she was trying her best running meals, taking/making drinks, the poor bugger didn't stop.

EDIT TO ADD we paid a $20 cake fee which I thought was crazy I was expecting $10 but all I wanted was some plates and a knife in the end after all of the muck up we took the cake home and got a refund on the $20

The Black Buffalo was a great place to stay. The room was comfortable and had ample extras for our stay. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We were offered a 15% discount card for the restaurant, but didn't end up eating there. It's only 2k's from Hobart city, Salamanca Markets and 1k from numerous restaurants and cafe's.

Allan checked us in and he had just walked in the door to start work. Didn't make us wait and helped us right away!

Sharon in gaming was really lovely, talkative and made me feel welcome in the gaming room.

Allan served us in the bistro and was very accommodating and polite. Food was nice and came it quickly.

One of the most pleasant experiences l have had recently. The meals are huge. Talk about value for money, and tasted even better. The staff were absolutely amazing. Extremely helpful, friendly and courteous.

The staff who work the bar are absolutely lovely. It was the first time I had been there, and all involved made me feel welcomed like a regular. Good on all the kind women behind the bar, keep being excellent.

Great local for family pub meal. Seniors 2 course option was good value for $18 (choice of main and soup or desert - mum choose the main and desert)
Mum's schnitzel, chips, and salad was a generous portion but, unfortunately, a bit overcooked and dry). However, the sticky date pudding was moist, tasty, and reasonable sized and served with cream and caramel sauce.
Other slow cooked meals (500g pork ribs, lamb shoulder, and beef brisket were all perfectly cooked, generous in size, and extremely tender).
My 7 year old enjoyed his mac & cheese and chips and was especially excited to win the scratchy prize ( he selected the ball).
We'll definitely be back on a Monday to try out locals $15 meals

We recently stayed at the Black Buffalo for 4 nights. Our room was large, clean, warm, and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable, so we slept fairly well. The restaurant staff were lovely and very helpful and whilst we only ate here 1 night, the food was good. This was a good place to bunk down.

My favourite Pub in Hobart for the last 36 years! We first had a meal there on our honeymoon in 1987

Easy location to access, clean rooms but was a 36 degrees day and aircon didn't work in room. Steak was not cooked properly TWICE, but I was offered a complimentary drink while waiting for them to recook

Still waiting for our meal after an hour and a quarter. If they cannot deliver in reasonable time they could at least tell you that before you book.
Hope they learn by the experience. The young team here are very friendly and helpful.
While it isn't the Ritz it's not too bad... it's a pub and it looks like they are trying to improve it. A good budget hotel.

Did not stay but ate at restaurant. This is our second visit and the food is excellent. Great sized portions, good value, friendly and helpful staff. They cooked the steak and beef cheek to perfection and we both left very full and with a smile. Thoroughly recommend grabbing a meal here and we will be back!!

You Get What You Pay For
The rooms are spacious and clean. However opposite the hotel is equipment hire shop so at 7 am there were reversing warning signals of trucks etc. then their phone started ringing which was broadcast on the sites PA system.

The sign for the hotel was in front of our window and kept the curtains illuminated all night.

Nice clean welcoming hotel. Rooms are old but clean and roomy. Dining room and meals were ideal. Staff fantastic. If you looking for reasonable accommodation close to the city check this place out. Good parking as well.

Personal review on my experience. Every one was great & the meal was delicious. Until lyod a bar staff was rude & snatched my half full beverage from me as the tab ran out. After finishing a tab of high value. We are a business in the same street & I enjoyed my day at the black buffalo surrounded by my staff.

He seemed upset about a shortage on our tab that I set earlier in the night as the last drink was a couple dollars short. He said he will have better enjoyment tipping it down the sink & we are stingey. The tab totalled just under $1400.00.

I recommended bar service training for lyod. Ratish took over & was a pleasure to deal with. He genuinely tried to make it right. Make him manager. Or a pay rise.

Basic multi service pub accommodation. Happy enough as in business travelling through. Restaurant on site plus pokies and function rooms if wanted. Rooms are old as per pics but clean. Good for price and 6 Min drive to city centre.

I love the place! Best service in town. Tasty and hearty meals, and a great place to have a beer with friends.

The staff were absolutely fantastic and friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean. The food from the restaurant was lovely and had an amazing variety, and nothing was too much trouble for them.

A really pleasant evening. A decent range of vegetarian and vegan friendly options, along with all of the pub / bistro classics that you'd expect. We tried the vego schnitzel, pasta, arancini and croquettes which were all good. The rest of the party had a chicken burger, chicken schnitzel and a steak, and they said it was good too. Mushroom gravy was very nice. Reasonable prices, including drinks. Worth a visit.

Good value accommodation.

We had differnet numbers staying over a few nights and they made it easy to move between rooms as people came and went.

Rooms have a rustic charm but was good value.

Enjoyed a beautiful meal for fathers day staff were friendly and helpful bit of a wait for meals but they were extremely busy was worth the wait.

Friendly Staff, Great Meals - Had the Beef Parma, really good portion size and tasted excellent.

I stayed here while my husband had surgery, from the first contact over the phone to book until check out, the staff/ service was wonderful and most helpful. Everyone including the cleaning and food service staff were always smiling a sign of a good morale within the workplace. Rooms were clean, comfortable and food servings large and affordable, recommend the scallops. Certainly will return but for a holiday not to have husband in hospital lol

The meal was nice (chicken schnitzel) but the chicken was a bit dry. Inside it was clean and nice and the customer service was great. I would give it a solid 7

Had lunch today. Terrific food (scallops, beef schnitzel & chicken salad) and service was great. Young Jacob looked after us, one of the best waiters I've seen. Cracked us up a few times without even trying. The Managerv was attentive too. Made to feel welcome.

Went for lunch with a friend, had the seniors meal, 2 courses $18, chose fish n chips followed by choc pudding. Good value. Excellent service, friendly staff and we could stay to chat as long as we wanted. Will definitely go back again.
