Look, I'm not the kinda person to not give a 5 or 1 star rating. The bottom line is do you enjoy going somewhere or not.

The Townie has its rough edges, but does the things well that a pub needs to do. It's clean, safe, great tap (craft) beer selection and great food.

At the moment, they have the best chicken wings in the Inner West, and I know my chicken wings!

They also have one of the best tap beer selections

All in all, I definitely frequent this pub. It's better than most on King St (Many are overrated and overpriced)

Good cold beer, lots of places to drink it. Average pub food but not the worst. Good vibes on a weekend and amazing location

A classic Australia pub! I've had the pleasure of being a patron here on quite a few occasions and never been disappointed. The Townie is the perfect place to grab an after work drink or bite to eat. Do you like a good happy hour? The Townie will sort you out. I reckon it's the best happy hour in Newtown hands down.

Upstairs. Easy to find a seat, food menus decent (it's compact). Fast service, can't complain. If you're going to the Enmore and are happy with Aussie staples, this place is grand.

Nice pub with a great range of drinks and a fun interior, with plenty to admire! The DJ on a weekend evening is a bit lame but there's still a good atmosphere and with a spacious interior with loads of seating its a good option if you're in a group; decent place.

Went here for the first time and they had Tuesday night specials of 2 for 1 Schnitzels. Great value and good tasting food. Beers from the tap are good as well.

I went for a Christmas gathering last week and was impressed by this place. The upstairs seats and lounge spaces are comfortable and cosy. The highlight though was the food, it was delicious and caters for all tastes including some vegan dishes. The staff are friendly and the happy hour is a great plus.

Loved the wings and wedges (Wednesday deal). Buffalo wings pretty good - that's coming from an American expat.

Service and ambience could have been better. An update to the decor and happier staff, or perhaps service with a more personal touch - *though they did take care of us when a Long Island jug got mixed up with our individual cocktail order.??'??

Great spot for lunch and drinks. Good location right near the train station in Newtown. Nice rooftop bar and outdoor area. The food is awesome. Decent menu with all the classic pub feed options. On Sundays they do $15 jugs and $14 burgers so it's the perfect spot for a Sunday lunch.

Haven't visited here for ages. But felt at home straight away. Loads of tasty beer options plus all your favourite bevies. Menu looks awesome. Happy hour every day. A great live music venue. Highly recommend.

Such a nice classic pub! Was quiet and clean, staff and patrons were friendly and food was soooo good. I had the calamari and it's definitely in my top 5 I've ever had, while my friend enjoyed the wings. Portion sizes were just what we were expecting for these meals, something a bit lighter than a main meal. Definitely want to come back!

Well lit and never really super busy. I like it upstairs where you can get instant service and a good selection of seats. Cheap drinks. Quiet for a Friday night.

My partner and I had a great experience here last night. The workers inside, and bouncers out the front were friendly and the drinks were delicious. There was no question of vax status which was appreciated. We will definitely return next time we're in the area. Keep up the great work Townie ?

Great bar staff, good food and a nice selection of beers. They have great weekly specials on food. I went there last night and had a tasty Parmy. Would recommend! Free pool on Tuesday night! Good fun.

Security guard with an attitude problem! Came at 7pm. Signed in and because I didn't hear him correctly, I stepped inside before the confirmation appeared on the screen. He yelled at me to step back outside. Which I did. I showed him the confirmation. He nodded and I took a step forward. He yelled at me a second time to show an ID. This could have been handled in a friendly manner, I was compliant and sober. This guy had an issue to begin with and if my friends hadn't been inside, I would have never entered this place. First time that I had an issue like this after I have been there many times. I don't understand how someone thinks it's necessary to YELL at someone in the way he did. Terrible attitude.

My husband and I have a tradition of going here on Boxing Day and it's always fun. Lots of families and relaxed atmosphere. Food is ordinary pub grub, beer prices seem very reasonable to me.

Looks so small out the front but as soon as you step in the door (plus sign in due to covid) it opens out to a big bar and seating. As you walk out the back door into open space there are three levels in the open spaces! Great place Also supporting local businesses at this time is an added bonus.

Not the best of the experiences as the staff seemed really sluggish on responding and had to ask twice or thrice for a concern or a beer choice even on a quite Monday. The bars around the place have a much more friendly staff and atmosphere as compared to this place. The drinks were good but the service could have been better.

The Townie is the local gem of Newtown. Fantastic service and friendly staff. Great spot to relax with your mates, have a bite, end your night out on the town or see some local live music. Yes it is smoking friendly in the outdoor areas, so if you don't want smoke you can go inside/upstairs and sit away from the door. They made even more room with a new upstairs cocktail/bar area. Just had a renovation by the looks and I love the new spaces, lighting and accommodating for a range of visitors. The Townie has been a favourite of mine for years. This is a rare place where the locals offer you a seat outside and has a welcoming vibe, what a refreshing change in Sydney! The only thing I wish they had was hotdogs to go with the American style food of french fries and burgers on the menu. Great job to the team and look forward to visiting again for a drink, burger and chat. xxx Cheers!!!
