The food was well prepared and well presented. The service was attentive and prompt. Loved the watercress soup. Cute atmosphere. This was our second time there. Our first time, we had some snags. I think what makes a difference about a restaurant is what they do to make it right. Well done by owner and manager.

Lively pub with fabulous bistro style restaurant. Excellent menu makes ordering a wonderful challenge! Food is fabulous - go to items; freshly shucked oysters, steak frites & duck coquettes. Frites superb! Thank you, will be back!

I walked by on a Sunday as the Jazz bank was playing and was so impressed by the atmosphere. There were people of all
ages and the pub was clean and well organised. Had some beers and sat outside. Will be back!

Best pub experience in Sydney! Had such a wonderful Sunday, the roast dinners are amazing, the bloody Mary's are bloody great and the staff are so attentive and on Sundays they play live jazz which is SO much!!

Free street parking after 6pm .
Super easy to locate in a cute area.
Pet friendly outside & inside - not on rooftop.
Friendly service. Not too busy on a wednesday so no wait times. Most staff came up to say hello to my doggo which was lovely, he was spoiled rotten with affection and also treats.
Limited menu compared to other restaurant's/pubs but every item was perfectly cooked - Gnocchi was beautiful (photo attached to this review)
Great selection of beers as well .

Fave notes: such a great vibe/atmosphere. Super inclusive workplace which I love to see. And the food was incredible. Recommend to try at least once.

Overpriced basic pub food. We ordered 1 serve of bread (2 slices) and a bowl of chips. When the food arrived, the waiter said he had doubled the bread as he felt we would be still hungry. Thought this was a nice gesture until we realised it had been added to our bill without us confirming this was okay. Each small piece of bread cost $3 each; chips were cold. Wait staff were super friendly but upstairs was lacking in character.

Second time I've been at The Old Fitzroy Hotel. Came back because of the local ambiance feel, eclectic feel and great food.

Felt not much had changed since I last visited except the food, which didn't meet the exception standard we had last visit.

Lots of chips this time...

Still worth the Uber ride.

Great old fashioned pub. Loved the downstairs bar area. Good beer selection and brilliant atmosphere.
Let down by really poor service in dining area upstairs. Paid $39 for a roast dinner on Father's Day so expected it to be top notch for that price.
Had to ask every time to have a menu, someone take our drinks order then food order. Food then took 45 mins to arrive. Requested kids meal served with our starters, didn't happen.
Starters were brilliant. Roast itself was ok at best. Meat was over cooked which could be because it was late in the serving (2:30pm) and perhaps the last bits of meat (not pink in the middle at all). Potatoes soggy not crispy.
Had to ask for more gravy as it only came with a drop. Yorkie was decent tho.
All in all was left a bit disappointed as such a great pub only to be let down by the food / service.

Visited the Old Fitzroy on a Sunday as we were keen to try the roast. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Ordered the chicken roast (Maryland cut), which, while it was cooked well it looked pasty and tasted bland, couldn't taste any herbs or spices. The roast chicken arrived with over-salted roast potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding was a bit dull, veg was carrots and spinach. One friend didn't eat the spinach as it was too salty.
A small amount of gravy was visible under the chicken. Could have really done with a bit of cauliflower cheese or something to give it some flavour. Overall disappointed. For the price it's a shame.
Note that we have previously eaten in the main bistro upstairs which was very good.

Great Sunday lunch! Lovely roast served by cool friendly humans. In a lovely place that makes you feel like you might be in the set of a movie or something. A booking is recommended to make sure you have a table to enjoy this lovely food. They have a good variety of tap beers, hope they add pure blonde to the mix to save on the carbs after indulging in their yummy food!
I will be back!

Venue - nestled in the backstreets of Potts Point, it's a cozy, warm and fun place! Service was excellent.

Food - we came here specifically for the Sunday Roast. The table ordered the Beef & Chicken roast. Whilst the flavour was there, we did feel some minor changes would make these roasts even better. Consistency on the plate - we saw other tables with bigger portion sizes. Which from our perspective made our plates look underwhelming. You'd expect a roast to have lots of gravy... all our plates were lacking gravy... literally had to scrape the plate to get the flavour. The Yorkshire pudding was a miss for us. Soggy consistently across the table. Overall, portion sizes were very small. For $32 for the chicken, you'd expect a bit more chicken. The beef, it was quite tough. But again, small technicalities - wait staff here are very quick, responsive and efficient.

Whilst the quality of Sunday roasts in Sydney generally isn't exactly great, this is by far the worst I've had. Wine was decent, and service was good enough and efficient, but the food was beyond poor and the atmosphere (upstairs) was nonexistent. I'm not sure how any chef of quality is happy to send out food like this? $35 for overcooked beef, zero gravy, a Yorkshire pudding that crumbled under the slightest touch and lukewarm veg. Seems like a popular spot, but save yourself the money and make it yourself...

I booked the mezzanine space of the Old Fitz for my graduation party and I could not have been happier. From the service to the food, to the ambience and music, everything was just perfect and what I was hoping for. I received so many compliments from my guests about the place and the food - I'm sure they'll be coming back and so will I. Thank you so much to the Old Fitz team for your work and for making it such a special evening for me (I would like to particularly thank the young man who took care of us throughout the evening - unfortunately I didn't get his name).

We just enjoyed a rather low-key birthday dinner here on a Monday night. The food was great, the menu is small, very freshly cooked, service really good, nice wines. My steak and chips was very delicious, ditto bread, duck croquettes, chicken and trout. The old fitz is such a quirky interesting pub, for some reason we hadn't been for a while. Our mistake. Thank you. Will be back!

Such a great place with delicious food and drinks selection.
We came a few times and tried the duck croquettes, fries, bread, cheese... all full of flavor.
Their wines and beers are great, too. Great to see pubs supporting great Australian wineries and breweries

Cheap and delicious inner city pub. with charming interior and comfortable atmosphere. The Diane steak and the Brussel salad were both huge hits, we loved everything we had. . May return.

Upon visiting this pub, my partner was approached by a woman who aggressively insisted he was in her "spot", despite him having been sitting in the seat for quite a while before she even arrived. She then became completely dysregulated and verbally assaulted him with obscenities when he didn't move at her behest. She spiraled into a rage saying she is a local and gets preferential treatment, which is why that is HER spot. Ironically we live 100 m from this pub so technically we are also locals, just do not frequent the place as much as this woman (who is already showing signs of intoxication) apparently does. We also both have accents from other countries, which can sometimes cause people to think we're just visiting. I have been in the country for just over 7 years now, am a citizen, work in the medical field serving the community, pay my taxes, etc. There's no valid reason to assume we are not also locals and to be bullied based on this assumption.

So the staff get involved, as she is belligerently causing a scene and some resolution must be reached. And instead of calming her down and trying to explain that there is no reserved sign on that seat so my partner is free to sit where was available at the time of his arrival, they sided with her - explained to my partner that "locals" have spots they like to sit at and he must move (thus fully committing to her xenophobic rant), and then served her alcohol which seems quite irresponsible given her behaviour. It does seem there are some severe mental health issues at play as well, so I do have empathy for this woman; however, such discrimination and irrational behaviour shouldn't be rewarded. In the end there was nowhere else to sit and my partner had to go home. All he wanted to do in the first place was sit in the sun while calling friends in Europe over a couple of beers, and - while in the middle of a phone conversation mind you - he was attacked by this woman and the staff supported her.

It's fairly obvious, we will not be back and are quite offended by how the staff echoed this raving patron's xenophobic stance about there being preferential treatment for "locals" (which don't assume we're not just because we grew up in other countries), made my partner leave after being verbally abused by someone clearly either unhinged or completely wasted, and decided to serve her instead. Absolutely ludicrous business practice.

I love the contrast of this bar:
Downstairs is a buzzing, dark bar attracting locals and people buzzing to see a show at the theatre attached to the hotel.
Up a flight of narrow wooden stairs is a beautiful French inspired bistro with amazing food. The oysters, spatchcock and steak were all incredible - too yum!

Historic inner city pub now secretly harbouring one of the better bistros in Sydney. Head up the creaky staircase to a red room with charming interiors and a relaxed atmosphere. The steak Diane and Brussel salad were both huge hits, particular shout out to the fries and perfect sauce that come with the steak (?) but truly we loved everything we had. Solid wine list that skews towards natural wine and the service was just the right blend of helpful & knowledgeable without being overbearing. Can't wait to be back.

Great old traditional Sydney pub renovated to reflect it's heritage. Terrific restaurant upstairs which has an eclectic yet not too large menu done very well. I especially liked their fries (some of the best I've tasted) and Brussels sprouts salad. Service is prompt and friendly and prices are reasonable. Kerbside tables are available, and dogs are permitted in the bar downstairs - a great idea as this area abounds with canine companions. Loved the Old Fitzroy, I'll definitely be back! I'd actually score it 4.5 stars.???'???'?????

Place is a gem of a pub in the back streets of Woolloomooloo.. lots of character and charm.

The bistro however was a total let down
The chef is meant to have good pedigree, Pignolet winner or something, however the food was substandard. Especially for such simple dishes.

I don't know if the chef is at fault, or the pub owner who wants the chef to plate up food on a what appears to be a very strict budget.

Not cheap however, and not good.

Really is a shame because it has great potential as a place you'd take people too.

If you're looking for a quiet local corner pub, for a brew or 2 with friends and some excellent pub grub, look no further. The atmosphere is relaxing, the staff friendly, and the patrons eclectic. Best enjoyed on a sunny afternoon.

32$ for a tiny bit blue steak and some green fries? 28$ for a well below average bowl of water with stock / soup. 3 cold coffees. Wanted to enjoy this place so much. Left shocked and confused. Liked the fire inside.

The pub downstairs is great if you like proper drinking holes with a really good selection of different local beers.

The upstairs bistro is excellent. Food was amazing, especially the steaks and the gratin. The wine list is good too.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the service was friendly, casual but absolutely spot on.
All round a great experience.

I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

A very disappointing experience today for Mother's Day lunch because my main course didn't arrive until after everyone else had completed theirs. My daughter was terribly upset by this. We were offered an extra dessert free of charge and my meal was deducted from the bill, but still it dampened the experience. My companions' hot meals arrived but there was no cutlery to eat them with for some minutes.
