I hadn't been here for over a decade and was very impressed.

Great meal with reasonable prices. QR code ordering available and they deliver to your table. Very generous portions. Not the best location as in no outlook or view but great for locals and the recent renovations are lovely. Excellent inside play area for kids with all the latest consoles. Good for families.

What the hell happened to the great food and menu from the past pub . Went there Sunday with all our family second time and LAST ordered garlic prawns with sourdough out it came three very sick looking prawns no juice at all no sourdough sent it back for refund. Pizza looked like the toppings had been painted on it was definitely disappointing.

A friend and I had a great first experience here for lunch on a Saturday. Parking was easy and right out front, staff were very friendly, menu was fantastic with a large selection, food was high quality and the facilities were well presented. I would recommend this place for a meal, overall it was an enjoyable occasion.

Amazing dinner, best gluten free pasta ever credits to the kitchen staff ? the partner enjoyed it too. I'm usually very sceptical of eating out with having coeliac disease and very often get anxious about it. But the wait staff were incredible helpful and reassuring with handle my dietary needs.

Just been to have a family birthday lunch and the food was amazing. Authentic Italian woodfired pizzas and fresh quality meals. Definitely a beautiful atmosphere with a beautiful dining experience. We will definitely will be returning.

Unbelievable! I'm beyond impressed, literally have no words for how quality this meal was. I was starting to think that Newcastle and the Hunter Valley had no quality food at all, but my goodness! This place is impeccable, you can taste the care and quality from ingredient selection all the way through to portion size and presentation! Even the pizza is some of the best I've eaten outside of Italy and better than most anywhere! In summary, best restaurant in the Newcastle/hunter region, best food I've eaten out in a long while anyway. Honestly I'm coming here at least once a week and I live in Cessnock (45 minute drive away). We'll done chef, we'll done team!!

As a local I was excited with the concept of a new pub. I had tried the old tavern out twice and food was good as you'd expect for the style of bistro it was.
With the brand new tavern opening, I was hoping for a very good experience and had hoped for decent beer range for a more modern world.
I knew going in that the beer range was only commercially owned, the menu prices were higher for a suburban pub, very mixed reviews since re-opening but I also had heard good things from friends that tried it. Unfortunately I did not experience the same.
My wife had lamb cutlets, they were nice but nothing too exciting, I was surprised with the duck fat potatoes not having any crunch... they were more of a duck fat confit cooked potato and served with a standard oud salad.
I had a the southern fried chicken burger, the chicken was tasty and well cooked but the only good thing about it which made me feel I just ordered a big chicken nugget,
the bacon jam was average, the mustard overpowered and lacked good balance but over all the bun killed the whole meal as it was so dry and stale it crumbled like bread crumbs. There is no way I'd ever serve a bun that fry and stale especially in a nice new establishment like that.
I will go back to try something else from the menu but doubt I'll return if I'm disappointed again and will go the extra distance to the Fire Station or even Jesmond Hotel which I've had great experiences at.

A beautiful new venue that didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Meal prices have gone up but we really enjoyed our food. Pasta size was huge and had enough for leftovers. Oysters Kilpatrick were divine. So flavoursome and huge they were devoured before we could take a pic. Pizzas looked amazing! A wonderful local venue for afternoon drinks or a special event.

Waited over an hour for 3 meals. Lamb ragu that was all fat, uncooked pasta with frozen potato. Frozen t-bone not fresh and the smallest portion of barramundi that was like cardboard cost $126 with a serve of oysters that were ok. Best part was the bar wait staff. Couldn't speak nightly enough of Mitch and his team. Drinks were great

Tried the New Maryland Tavern (opened yesterday). The new venue is much nicer, bigger, laid out nicely. Giving 3/5, there is room for improvement. Definite teething issues on day two, poor organising and efficiency in ordering and delivery of food. The bar is very neat, good service. Food was well priced, with good sized meals, but due to teething issues, long wait time. Pub basic meals were good, the fancier meals looked great. Try again soon.

Awesome steaks. Highly recommend. Had mine seared instead of char grilled so tender great salad too. If your hungry it's the place too be.

I walked to the bar without any car keys and I was stone cold sober, hot and sticky from the 20min walk to the Bar. When I got to the bar Thay refuse me the right to buy a beer !
Bartender then got the Manager.
She because apparently my wife informed them that I was not drunk. I replayed I am at a bar and would like to but a beer please!
The manager change Tactic and started climbing I was aggressive when all I asked for is a beer please!
What's coming in the world when a man Can not buy beer when he's is sober .
I have no health conditions due to alcohol I'm non-alcoholic!

Is this a woman's live rebellion against men walking to the bar and buying a drink at the bar!

I dont like being harsh but I used to go here religiously 8 years ago. The food was amazing and good value. We've tried it twice since then and the schnitzels are painfully average. I always say what makes or breaks a pub is it's food because anyone can serve a beer. Unfortunately, the food has broken this pub. Hopefully with the new renovations there will be a quality shake up of the menu.

The food is good and also is good value for the cost. I had a chicken schnitzel and vegetables for lunch today(27th February). I have been to other places for lunch and they charge at least double for the same meal. You want food that is good at a reasonable cost then try Maryland's Tavern. They do have dinner specials on every day so visit the Tavern to see what is on special for the day that you visit.

chicken snitzel was oozing oil on my plate.
the garlic prawn topper sauce didn't have much flavour.

Went on a Tuesday night and they had a special in the restaurant which was 2 for $24. (On about 6 or 7 menu items) It was great having a choice of either mashed potato or potato bake as an option as well. Had the California topper on my schnitzel, but the prices aren't discounted despite the special offers. Still worth getting though. My family enjoyed their meals as well. I took off one star as the main pokie room is a smoking area, and the non smoking section only had a few machines.

The food is normally good, however, yesterday the 8th of May the food was not good. I believe that the usual chef was not working and another chef was working hence the difference in the taste of food. I had a chicken schnitzel which was done to my liking. The chips were not crisp and the lamb cutlets were very oily. The kitchen staff need to ensure that the food is up to scratch. On yesterday experience I could not rate the food at all.

First time I ate here was great. Unfortunately they cannot keep up with the multitude of orders for mothers day.
-Entrees were awsome.
-Snitzels would have been lovely if they weren't cold.
-Maryland Burgers both dishes had under cooked red patties.
-kids didn't get their meals untill all the adults had finished their meals.
Management were lovely and quick to try to resolve our complaint.

Awesome food & ambience. It's quite, calm & energetic staff. We love their bruschetta, garlic bread & pizza. Lovely sport screens & activities.

Must be under new owners.

I love this recent find! We went to trivia & was brilliant. We had a blast! The service is fast, regardless of how busy they are and the food is totally scrumptious. And really affordable prices. On the cheaper side! Even if they raise there prices we would still go, the servings are very generous. Not much of a place to look at, definitely attracts all types(!) But everyone is happy and I've never witnessed any problems. Staff are super friendly, it's like walking into a bistro run by your Aunties!! Great place to take kids, I saw a group of people have a adults table and a smaller height, equally as long kids table beside them! Take things for the kids to do - no play area, but I think that's part of the charm. Kinda old style..10/10 ?????

While the food isn't bad, since the reopening it seems the prices have increased quite a bit. Unfortunately i would now look to eat elsewhere.

Really top notch meals @ this establishment. Reasonably priced & a very good menu choice, staff are exceptionally helpful & kept up due diligence with the Covid protocol's in place. #Well done Maryland Tavern & a well worthwhile trip to try their food.
