Been coming to this amazing pub since 4 months ago, my favourite are Chicken Parmi, Garlic Bread, the Burger and their wedges! The staff are very friendly and amazing service as always! Definitely my go to place in Mareeba.

We were passing through Mareeba and only staying 1 night and this place was recommended to us from a local. We had a pork ribs and a lamb shank and both dishes were excellent! Both slow cooked to fall off the bone softness, and the sides were good too. The meals are quite big so we couldn't fit in dessert, and the service was very friendly. Highly recommended!

2 eye fillets, one rare and one medium, unfortunately medium and 1 well done! Asked for extra tomato on the salad ..
. So got 2 half cherry tomatoes! Cold steak, hot pepper sauce (thank goodness) so had a partially warm meal. $85 for a fairly decent meal is just not good enough!!!! And waited 40 minutes for our food on a quiet day

Beware of the removal of EFTPOS at the counter, convenience for the hotel, inconvenience for guests.

The Gateway Hotel is more than you'd expect for a town hotel restaurant. The decor is fresh and interesting. The staff were friendly and gave good service. The meals are large portion sizes and are great value. Great for larger family bookings. There are kids facilities and disabled access.

Minus 2 stars! A recent visit was disappointing with introduction of QR code scanning for menus and ordering (no cash) at the table. While you can still order at the counter, this has made the experience impersonal, leaving customers to stare at their phones with no personal interaction with staff. This attempted cost saver may loose customers and lower their reputation.

November 2023 update - 1 less star - disappointed again with the refusal to serve an 18 year old (with i.d.) and his date because she was 16. In a town with very few decent restaurants and fewer open on some days like Tuesday night, kids can't even go on a date. I'll go somewhere else to eat now.

This iconic hotel is very deceiving from the front. Once inside you are greeted by the staff.

The bar and restaurant are styled to suit the farmer scene.

The menu offers a broad range of items and reasonably priced.

The staff were very friendly and organised.

Definitely a place to stop on the way to Port Douglas.

I am a fussy eater at best and when it comes to my steaks I like it cooked rare.
Everytime I come in to the gateway I get greeted so politely by the staff members and some of the chefs. (I'm a chef myself so I talk to other chefs)
And without a fail I get the best service and the steak is cooked amazing along with the sides.

Great steak sandwich. But... the wait was crazy. I know they were busy but a heads up on waiting time would have been good. I think I am being generous when I say it was 1 and a half-hours to get a steak sandwich.

I don't think I could've had a more amazing experience at this place! Came in for lunch and as soon as we got seated we were greeted with Raechel who was amazing. The food was on point and don't get me started on the staff! Great atmosphere and great food. Great work guys!

Food is average. I ordered medium rare steak but it came out on medium well. And they need more food in the menu. Service is fine.

MUST STOP!! Food and staff were amazing. The staff were accomodating and understanding. Food was very well presented and tasted phenomenal (especially as I'm travelling through). Was a bit hesitant to stop in at first but so grateful I did 🤩

Having to order online is not great. You lose the ability to ask questions about allergy options. Placing your order in this way is taking away someone else's job.
Other than that, the meal was awesome, and we will be back.

Had a great chicken parmy, salad didn't have dressing, asked for dressing, chips had no salt of sauce. Asked for some. My partners meal was very basic for $26. My drink was a mojito,silly strong, my lemon lime was amazing. The app to order food isn't as easy as they think it is to process. Had many difficulties.

Been in this pub many times and service is always fantastic, staff are friendly and helpful. Food is beautifully presented and delicious, steak is perfectly cooked as asked. Chefs working in an open kitchen gives us a reassurance that they are not hiding anything, you know they practice highly hygienic and safe food handling.
Although at first, we're a bit hesitant to try the ordering app, we found that it's very convenient in the long run. Staff are always willing to help if you have issues about the app. This pub is Tablelands' gem.

Amazing service and food! My son has egg allergies and they catered to his needs to perfection! And we love the feel of the restaurant too!

This is the best bar in the whole of mareeba, the nicest staff and coldest beers. Since they have done the renovations it's absolutely beautiful atmosphere and nice to come and relax anytime of the day. The chefs know how to cook a great steak and the menu is worth the visit! Also pretty reasonable pricing.

The kids meal the chicken schnitzel came with salad. It's so wonderful to see that. My kids loved the meal and the fish tacos where so tasty. Wonderful place to have dinner on our holiday adventure. The staff where great.

The Gateway is such a part of this town's history. I absolutely love the style and most of our experience was lovely. The playground was fun for the kids. It was also nice and clean However...the head chef was not very fitting for this place in my opinion. Eating while he was cooking. Not really what I like to see from someone preparing our food. Management was very professional and polite. The wait staff was very professional and engaging.

A lovely cool feel in this pub, with staff happy to work there too! Art in the Ladies!? A very long Sky window lighting up the ordering station and kitchen. Intimidating Bar! 'Just' ordered slow cooked beef rib pie w mushy ps, gravy, buttered mash and onion rings, (sounds very boring I know) but the chef/s cooked every ingredient perfectly ... num num. A gem!

A local friend and I had lunch today. I have had many pleasant experiences dining here in the past.
Upon arrival we were hurriedly ushered to a table without consult of where we might like to sit. We sat under a very cold air conditioner.

Ordering drinks and meals from the rude young lady with the glitter belt and black jeans made no attempt to hide her (I'm not going to smile or be friendly today to anyone) attitude - was disappointing. I'm certain that "Are you right??" Is a hospitable reception for my friend ordering the drinks. And sighing out loud having to climb down from a ladder behind the bar.
We had to get up and request drink coasters and were given wet coasters from behind the bar.

We ordered the Graziers beef pie (which was hot and delicious) the mushy COLD green peas (consisting of little more than a teaspoon) and cold onion rings. We once again we had to get up and walk to the bistro cashier and request salt and pepper??!!

After finishing our meals we were the only ones sitting quietly finishing our drinks when the two female bar staff/waitresses came in, cleared tables, screeched the chairs and tables across the floor without the slightest consideration of us.

I have worked in the hospitality industry and was horrified at the disrespect of bar staff and the temperature of the food.
I doubt I'll be recommending people to the Cattleman's rest as I have done many times in the past

Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Went for mothers day lunch and enjoyed a nice meal. Havent been here before and I was pleasantly surprised.

Food amazing, sticky date pudding to die for. Definitely get good value for money here. Rachel(?) In the bar at the entrance really knows what customer service is about.

We stumbled across this place on our way through to Port Douglas and it is amazing! The atmosphere is great, especially out in their beer garden.The Taylors 2016 Tempranillo is so smooth and tasty, their halloumi salad was delicious, and the rib eye dish melts in your mouth. Would 100% recommend!

Awesome place for the family to dine in! Great meal portions but very expensive for the type of food served. Beautiful place, clean, very family friendly, great entertainment for the kids. The lady at the bar was so lovely, the other lady at the cashier with dark hair and lots of make up, wasn't welcoming at all.

Despite drinking here for the 3rd day in a row spending a total of $300+ (coffees beer and toasted dangers add up ) I still have not felt welcome. I have been very courteous and respectful and despite my smart casual manner of dressing I am treated with a rudeness usually reserved for customers with an unpaid tab. Asking to Leave my bag in the corner of the room where noone would care to look or sit, was like asking for a cash loan of a homeless person. One barmaid was however respectful and hospitable, Kayla I thank you for that
