I was looking for a cost effective place to stay for 1 night. After arriving the gentlemen at the bar was very helpful, my room was very clean and my bed was very comfortable. I stayed for lunch and dinner, both were amazing. You get noise as you would expect from any bar, that comes with the Territory.

I made the mistake of booking a motel, rocked up to notice i made the booking on the wrong dates. Fortunately the Albion hotel was able to help out after 9 with 2 rooms. The rooms were very clean everything is new and the beds were the best ive slept on out of the whole holiday. Great bathrooms and the staff were very friendly and catered to our every need

Fortunate to have stumbled across this hotel while on an overnight stay. Great pub atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. Even better, we arrived just into happy hour and left more than a little happy...This is yet another great little place that makes Newcastle worth visiting.

We just checked into this hotel . We paid 2400 for two queen rooms for three nights. We have been given one queen room and one broom closet double bed room. The guy at reception said its not his problem he doesn't own the place. My partner kept asking for another rooas we had paid a couple of thousand dollars for this accommodation. He was quiet dismissive and offered to take a queen bed from another room and put it in the small space we have.
There is not even a sink in the room

[Mar 23] Tried them again tonight and the menu doesn't match what you actually get.
Photo attached is of a sauce that cose $3, and it's so small.

[Jun 22] Last wednesday (trivia night) my Girlfriend and I ordered a schnitzel each. When they came out they had been cut in half! So they were half the size that others at our table had received. The veggie sides were also much smaller than normal.
I've never had that done to me before. The bar staff was surprised but wasn't able to do anything about it because they had run out of schnitzels.

This used to be a really good place, but the new owners are more interested in cutting corners and alienating their customer base.

NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE
Despite their advertising and SEO ranking, they are not wheelchair accessible. The doors are not wide enough and the ramp is not accessible. Im hoping after the renovation they become more aware of wheelchair needs considering they have a good local reputation.

Netty. Was. Here. My home town local. Under new licensee! I Was really keen to hook into some fresh oysters! Seafood Sunday special is $2 oysters (any kind) and $20 buckets of prawns ALL DAY.
Not massive oysters but fair sized for the price. All were fresh as fresh can get!

What really impresses me is the $15 mid week lunch specials. With your choice of sauce and sides it's still $15; massive snittys and steaks cooked to perfection. Great for the budget!

The Albion Hotel is just a few hundred metres north of the train station, last stop.If you want a good Parmy Schitzel or fish and chips you won't be dissaponted. I stopped here because there's not much around this end of town to get a decent lunch. Nice pub.

It's 4am and music is still blasting in my room from the bar. Writing this review then packing my bag and leaving. What a joke of bar with accommodation. No respect for their guests. 2 nights of no sleep. No towls for the 1st night either. DO NOT STAY HERE!

I have just had an awful experience at the Albion Hotel. Attending the venue with my Urban Rec sports team, we were hoping to use our $100 voucher we were awarded the previous season for being 'the most fun' team. Once we had agreed on our meals we went up to order and were told to wait a minute whilst they checked the validity of the voucher.

Eventually, the manager who we now know as Jerry approached us in an incredibly aggressive manner and told us we could not use the voucher because it was not signed by the publican with a red pen. We were willing to accept this but Jerry continued to berate myself and my team asking us why we would forge the voucher (again we had not, we pulled it out of the envelope it came in). We did our best to calmly explain this to Jerry but our explanation seemed to only antagonise him more, he even implied Urban Rec forged the voucher (which is a strange thing to accuse an organisation you sponsor of doing).Jerry then yelled at us to take it up with Urban Rec however, since Jerry was the one with the issue I told him to call Urban Rec.

After being accosted in this way, we paid for our meals in full and whilst there wasn't anything wrong with the meals, the whole experience left a sour taste in our mouths which definitely spoiled dinner.

During dinner we closely inspected the voucher and saw that it had a wet signature and did not appear electronic or photo-copied. In fact the pen had slightly bled through to the other side of the paper. I do hope Jerry inspects the publican's pens to make sure all of his red pens have ink in them to avoid this happening in the future. This is really embarrassing for such a long standing, respected venue.

In any event, I have contacted Urban Rec because I am so rattled to be treated this way by a venue they trusted to be a sponsor. Even if we are lucky enough to win 'the most fun' team again this season we will NOT be celebrating the win at the Albion Hotel.

Went to the Albion tonight for dinner because they sponsor the sports competition at Urban Rec and our team won a $100 voucher for being 'Most Fun' team.
When we tried to order dinner the Duty Manager 'Jerry' or 'Gerry' (can't confirm spelling but he was small, bald and irrationally furious) yelled at us saying people had been photocopying the voucher and that we weren't allowed to use it. He was weirdly aggressive and it was all in all a pretty horrible experience. It would also be unusual for a group of 8 people to try and scam one of Newcastle's least desirable venues just to save $12.50 each but he was adamant.
Gerry/Jerry didn't let us use the voucher so on principle I didn't order any food so I can't review the cuisine although I did see the 'mega schnitzel' and it was pretty normal sized.
Have no intentions of going back to the Albion again. Jerry/Gerry is definitely not the Most Fun and should get his blood pressure checked, the guy was red as.

Greeted by friendly staff who treated us really special as we were their only guests for the 3 nights. Room was pristine and clean. The bathroom was clean but it was a little sqeezey. The Bistro served great food. Not a big menu but the Specials board had great meals. One complaint was the TV is small and mounted too high up the wall. We got cricked necks and the picture was tinged red due to the acute angle so watching was not clear. But it was a handy location to light rail, great cafes. Access to the city and ferry was easy. We only drove the car on the last day as we went to Port Stephens. A real Hoot on Origin night!

THE ALBION FAWLTY TOWERS

The Albion has been my favourite socializing hotel for quite some time, as the staff went the extra length to make you feel welcome like in their own home, even offered a taste of new beers on tap and so I wanted to show to my staff the difference that makes to gain returning patronage.
Where years ago I spent a hefty amount to hire just 2 of John Cleese tapes for training my staff, last Sunday got all free of charge ....after all we can learn from mistakes as well.
I asked the bartender if the pool table was still available for a game, as it was very crowded around it, I wanted to make sure by asking again, realizing what I meant he reply " don't worry, he is the owner just telling him to move". To give you a clearer picture, the owner and his other 10/11 friends were seating at an area where, in the past, only a max of four people occupy that space. Not only it was difficult to get to the pool table but we also had to brush people past at the top end.
As we approached the table to start playing, the owner, without an introduction and very abruptly laid out the rules relating to Covid, which were respected and followed , when I asked him if he could give us a bit of space so we could play, he replied " when you shoot at this end I will " REALLY?!!
They were only another two people in the back room, was it really necessary to block the side window to the bar, the pool table and access from the bar to the back room?
And so we continue to finish the game by repeatedly apologizing for disturbing him and the next person who took his place to gain an uncomfortable bit of space to be able to play.
The irony of his Covid rules implementation, which was his way of telling us who the BOSS was, never thought of wearing a mask when speaking in my face, nor having anyone making sure who walked in had actually registered the QR code.
Now is the time Mr Albion hotel owner, to ask yourself how much your ego cost you.
How many customers have you lost in one blow? 4? 8? 16?
I really hope the time I have spent writing my story will not go to waste and it will help you recover the loss.

I went there during my lunch break for the Kiev, which is on the menu. I was told it wasn't available so I happily chose something else. Then I was asked where I would like to sit and the place was half empty so I picked a table away from others, then I was told they were saving that table for someone else. I chose another table and went to get a beer. I came back to the bistro where the waitress sat me at another table of her choice. Then I waited for 30 minutes for my meal before I asked where it was (because I'm a patient guy). The younger girl was apologetic saying it was really busy (yet the place wasn't half full). I waited another 10 minutes when I overheard that they gave my lunch to someone else🤨. I told them to forget it. They gave me a refund of $17 and then I got a sandwich from the place three doors down. The sandwich shop had great service, it was fresh and half the price. I'll be going back to the sandwich shop!

This is a very historic hotel in the heart of Newcastle. Cold beer and good food from the restaurant is a highlight. Full betting facilities are also available. A very enjoyable location with views of the harbour.
