Great atmosphere surrounded by original old pub decor . Easy accessible location thanks to light rail . Fans of AFL Swans team meet at Shakespeare for drinks before and after games at SCG. Terrific food , I recomend you try the $15 chicken schnitzel . Friendly staff & patrons. The Shakey is well worth a visit.

Decent old boozer. Felt like a locals place. Amazing burgers. Great range of beers. Loved it for a catch up with mates.

First time here. Pretty cool little place. Affordable beers and the option to drink out the front on the footpath is pretty cool. Not many places left like this. Get in while you can. Extra chuffed about the projector showing the cricket on the neighbouring building. Nothing like sport on the big screen ?

Anna and Andrew were amazing staff who accommodated to our needs and made sure we had an amazing time. If all staff are to this level, this is truly a great venue. Would definitely recommend!

Visited on a whim from Adelaide for a quick pint and stayed for the ridiculously cheap happy hour specials and overall hospitality (even by small city standard pricing and friendliness) the place was a gorgeous old fashioned hotel and you can easily kick back a handful of pints for a decent price with no complaint from the bank. Great fkn pub. Young lads behind the bar were delightful and welcoming. Charming and homely decor, prices were amazing for the location. The kind of place you could drink Guinness all afternoon.

Amazing atmosphere. Coming into a beautiful Irish pub and seeing people with their dogs is amazing. Upstairs' chandlers and lighting for events is amazing too. Beautiful place that I love going to a few times a month.

Great spot for groups, a couple of the upstairs rooms can accommodate groups of about a dozen.

Good food, standard modern Aussie fare. Good veggie options.

Second time I've been here for their fantastic lunch offering. We got there at noon to an empty pub but it soon filled up nicely. Steaks and chicken parmis were popular. A really nice location and love the old school vibe to the place.

Used to like this pub but the shavef head bartender with a weird singley wouldn't put on the afl with two spare TV's. Bit weird. Some indy pubs like to have that kinda bartender i guess.

Sadly no Carlton draught on tap anymoe : (..... which means a huge amount of people won't go back as it's a popular beer... us locals love Carlton... the alternative beers aren't in the league... the Trinity and Surry Hill hotel both sell Carlton... this is where you'll find us now going forward... #disappointed as I loved the Shakey

The old style pub in Surry hills that you should visit. Food is so good and yummy. Im ordered fish and chips that I think it's not different than the other pub but my friend love the chicken butter very much. I will try that next time.

We retreated here from a rain-affected day at the SCG Test match. These legends had the Grifter's serpent's kiss on tap! What a great pub. Cool 80s tunes on rotation and a nice atmosphere. I felt a bit sorry for the lone barman who was smashed by the hordes of cricket fans heading back to Central on foot. Looking forward to a return visit to sample the food menu.

The food is good but needs some improvement. The mushy peas with my fish and chips were intentionally served cold (?) with just about enough to cover a teaspoon. On the +side, staff are friendly, prices are competitive but learn how to do the basics right!

Forgot about this gem. They had some cracking live music, locals are all legends staff are rock stars. Better believe we are adding this back to our pub path.

Accommodation is certainly an experience - the bedroom is impressively furnished, clean and bed comfy, but dust in corners and cleanliness of bathrooms may pose a challenge, depending on your expectations. Staff very friendly and flexible with arrival times.

Awesome English-style pub with great food and beer offerings.
Better suited to winter months because it's cosy, however also great for any time of the year. Perfect stop off for a beer on the way to the game or as you walk around Surry Hills. Recommend.

Really understated pub. I've been a long long time ago for a work lunch and it was completely different to a dinner here. Really wholesome/homey vibe, cheap beers (For most pubs now) and the food was incredible. Wide menu but everything ordered was excellent, would highly recommend coming for a drink and casual dinner. One of the best burgers I've had recently and mate said one of the best pub feeds he's ever had. Decent atmosphere in a hearty pub.

Still one of best pub around Surry Hills. Great ambient and classic pub food with amazing taste!

Nice and cozy. Food is good and fairly cheaper than the other places around. I had a nice Steak, chips and salad for $17

It's a happy, inclusive pub with great food and drink. Vibrant staff serving a mixed bunch of humanity. I live 200km away but I refer to it as my local when I visit Surry Hills. Love the Shakey.

Was at the Shakey every Wednesday night 20 years or more, went there tonight 5:00pm, first time since covid closure and reopening, now full of loud braying bogan blokes I've never seen before. Friends and I now going to superior Norfolk Hotel, never coming back

Old school, no frills comfortable pub. It's so dated it has become retro, but without the tedious hordes of unicycle riding, plaid adorned hipsters. Average selection of beers, average service and average decor. I love it.

The best Keeps getting better! Lots of beers on tap, a friendly local atmosphere and a classic pub menu with some of the best food in Surry Hills. Amazing
