Stayed recently on a Friday night. Was very quite but had an excellent evening with Steve (the owner) listening to all of his incredible Bridge stories. My wife is a Bridge fanatic and totally loved it. What a Bridge legend Steve is. Can't wait for him to set up some Bridge weekends.

We went for lunch and were not disappointed. The pork chops were great. It's a friendly country pub. Feed the parots out the back. They will sit on your arm to take food. The bartender can give you some nuts for the birds.

We only had lunch at the Bistro, so that's all I can comment on. The food was excellent. I had hamburger with chips and my partner had salad. Hamburger was one of the best I've had in years. We sat in the back garden with the King Parrotts flying all around. It was lovely.

Lovely old hotel with a bar, kitcjeb and accommodation. Bar is well stocked and includes a pool table $3 to play (bring coins!). Kitchen has lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Owner was kind to us city-siders, helping us out.

Nicely situated at the start of town.
Only enjoyed a drink in the beer garden.
Has a nice country feel about it.
Not sure the publican was fussed on tourists but wasn't rude either

Old town pub that used to be the hub for this country town. These days, it's not too bad and a place to go to get away. Bear in mind that it is a very small country town pub. The cafe/bistro/kitchen serves average fair in large portions, but it is ok, not outstanding. Prices are reasonable for location.

This year we decided our work xmas party would be a trip to Hill End. Booked two nights and off we went. We arrived on a Monday and were the only ones staying with the publican. Lovely clean rooms, great dinners served up and we stopped and relaxed. Got to know people moving in and out of the pub, chatting to locals and wandering around this magical place. I love Hill End.

Have stayed there twice now....great basic food (all you need) and a nice warm fire. The stairs though are the creepiest stairs in the world !!! If you know you know !!!

Took the fam fer a feed and it was top-notch. Lotta history in 'ol hill end' was a great day, made better by the good food and service of the Royal Hotel. Cheers for letting the lil bogans feed the birds.

Great staff and food. The wait for food was very long (1 hour), though it was understandable as it was Easter Sunday, and all the restaurants around Bathurst are short staffed. I had the chicken schnitzel, and my partner had the curry sausages. I prefer the sausages, but both were good. Would come back next time.

We popped into the hotel for a delicious cider on a hot day after visiting the historical sites.

We loved the outside area at the back and the hotel manager gave our dogs some meat to snack on.

We also found the locals friendly and fun to chat to. Really enjoyed our time here.

Hamburger with chips and there was only 13 chips. They said they were running out of them, but offered no refund or apology. I most certainly will never be going back. Nice little cafe across the street, much better.

Beautiful old historic hotel - the last remaining in a town where during the height of the gold rush there were 28 pubs!
Had lunch on a weekday and sat in the beer garden with a dozen other patrons. Threw the stick round with the hotel dog who is truly living its best life here, with no shortage of attention. Honest country pub fare including sausages, burgers, schnitzel, steak, and fish. The chef looked after everyone and did an awesome job.

Rough and Rustic throwback to a sadly lost era - here people are still friendly and helpful. Has a range of food and drink. Good burgers and chips! - note the only phone reception is Optus so plan ahead. The whole town is a surreal step back in time. Do check out the banknotes behind the bar in the pub.

Had a great time at the Royal, one of the best steaks I've had in forever. Beer is cold and black just the way I like it. Well it's black if you love the old like me.So much history and a just a great place to sit and take in the town.See you again very soon.

I went camping in the area and thought I would drop in for a nice pub dinner. To be honest I was highly disappointed. The food was over 20 dollars a meal which is ok if it was decent food but the food was pretty much below average, and people sitting around me who were eating Chinese that nice also said the food was below average quality. Personally I had a nicer meal the night before cooking it over the camp fire. Its a okay place for a beer and relaxing atmosphere but I would not recommend the food. There is limited options in town so I would recommend you bring your food to town to cook it over a camp fire.
