I absolutely love the atmosphere and outlay of this place. It's been designed especially for those who want a genuine low cost but hearty pub cuisine. The bar is contagious and good to get to know the lovely bartenders that run this ritzy tavern. Out the back as well as indoors, there are screens everywhere you look with all different sports on. If you feel like a flutter try out a few rounds on the pokie machines for a run for your money. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time when I was there, the meal was delicious. I had a ball winning the dragons pokie machine that I smashed all my winnings out of.

We walked in and immediately smelt cigarette smoke. The door behind the bar for staff to access the smoking area was propped open, allowing the smell of ciggy smoke to waft through the indoor dining area. Asked a manager if the door could be closed and he said it would be inconvenient. Never going back.

If you're coming here for food make sure you don't end up talking to the head chef. Absolutely patronising and rude. I rocked up at 9:15 as the website said food till 10:00 and he was nothing but rude to me when I tried to show him the website said food till 10:00. Tried to give this kitchen a second chance. But now I'd much prefer a toasted sandwich across the road at the Marrickville hotel then have a bite to eat with that awful chef.

Truly disappointing Thursday night experience. After having nothing but positive experiences with great food and drinks and a friendly crew after meeting a manager named Morgan this drastically changed my opinion of this once Pristine establish. Rude and hostile towards both members of the public and his own staff where I saw him yell at a young Asian female member of staff leaving her in tears. I was terrified for the safety of myself and the others around me. Hopefully Morgan is dealt with appropriately.

Great pub with a lovely fireplace shame about the excessive screens playing sports. Support local culture with live music/open mic or games night. Also shame that in the middle of winter the staff keep the door to the courtyard open while the fireplace is on so that all the heat flows out! Unbelievable why make a fire and then freeze all the patrons!!!!

Great schnitzel, well cooked plus chips with sauce of choice & a small salad. Fast friendly service at the bar with plenty of big screens for all the sports action.

I went with my very picky family and we got the pizza, 2 steaks, Nasi Goreng and chicken breast and the topping parmigiana.?We enjoyed the meal and thought it was well priced for the quality of the food.??

Overpriced food, terrible quality, tasteless, absolutely bland...not going back.... Ever. Fish and steamed veggies, the fish tasted as boiled (zero flavour), the veggies were undercooked. I myself could have prepared a 100% tastier, yummier meal. As I complained to the waitress, she said: oh, bad luck this time... seriously?? wtfff

First visit here and at xmas time. Complimentary drink and trays of food taken to tables, prawns included. Very happy staff. Will return next time I'm in the area.

Friendly staffs that provide good services, good place for pokies, however there is too much smoke in the area, makes it very hard to get some air. The toilet is also not very clean.

The pub area and drinking is fine. But the kitchen has gone down hill. Really overpriced. Poor service. Gets orders wrong. And the quality of the meals are really very poor. And certainly not with what they charge.

A very nice local pub with a comfortable sofa area and the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful time there.

I usually come to this place but unfortunately the staff have really gone down hill. The manager eating with customers whilst on shift. The chiefs snickering and carrying on. It is very sad to see. The owners need to ensure staff a full trained on their skills of professionalism and overall general manner.

This place serves up some good food. I have taken the family here a few times and i have to single out the steak as its really good. The wife always gets the Lasagne and loves it. There is plenty of parking and it has a great Atmosphere, the prices are also pretty reasonable

My go to place when doing site work in this area and having a late lunch or early dinner.

I've tried many places in Marrickville and the Exchange has delivered quality meals and a nice atmosphere. Prices are very good, service is very efficient.

Simply amazing. I worked at this place 20 years ago and it was a dump. But a schooner of Toohey's or that nasty Victorian swill cost $2.80. I daresay it cost a fair bit more now. By law we had to offer food, but all we had were pies, chips and sangas. And there was always a herd of cockroaches behind the bar drinking the spilt beer. I miss the guard dog, too. Rottweiler. Tried to eat me on my first day. Awesome dog. Ahhh, memories. Amazing how it looks now. I don't suppose I'll be back in Oz anytime soon, but I'd love to come back for a look.

Good food reasonably priced with a decent selection. Meals came promptly. Bar service was efficient and friendly. The outdoor area is nice with a huge screen for sports. I overall enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it to others.

Any basic cook knows you can't offer rare in a piece of meat this thin. Chewy, with a flavours of the grill aroma, this was a clear CBF'ed from the cook tonight. 1/10

I'm not a frequent at this venue but when I do go I usually have the $12 rump steak special. This has always been my go to meal at the pub. Our meal was very disappointing tonight. The price has gone up $6 and the quality down(more gristle than meat). I need to right the wrong and find another pub with value for money.

Don't love the vibe and tend to go there just for occasional cheap pub grub but overall this is a pretty friendly local.Seems quite geared towards gamblers, lots of pokies and TV screens with various sports or horseracing on display.The outdoor area isn't the nicest and overall the Exchange is not the cleanest place - but then again - it's an old school local, what do you expect?Staff are nice enough.Occasionally the ladies bathroom is a horror scene as another reviewer has demonstrated. They should really employ someone to clean that up more often and more thoroughly. Thankfully the kitchen is on the other side of the premises!

The enigmatic Royal. Great for a beer or 10. Footy live and loud if that's what you're after. Decent pub grub and plenty of lively characters make it a solid stop along Marrickville Road.

While the $12 rump steak + drink is probably the cheapest within its proximity, the quality really isn't there. Otherwise, friendly bar staff.
