No menu changes could be accommodated at all (eg swap chips for potato chats) even with the offer to pay more. No biggie but it set the tone for the night.

I don't usually write reviews, but feel in this case credit must be given. Drinks and food was great, and everything was as we'd hoped, however what has prompted me to write this review was the particular service provided by the lady at the kitchen service area (Fri 1st March 5:30-6). By chance I was in line waiting to order when another patron came to the counter to complain about my partner discretely breast feeding our baby at the table. Clearly neither of them knew who I was to the situation, but was pleased to observe her crisp reply that there was nothing wrong with breast feeding a child, and if he didn't like it there were seats in other parts of the hotel he could go to. Personally I couldn't believe in 2024 people still shared such an antiquated ideal, but was so grateful for the fast professional response the lady at the counter provided. 10/10

i visited this pub recently with a group of friends, and none of us were expecting such a warm and homely atmosphere.

the exterior has a beautiful beer garden area that looks onto the gorgeous streets and architecture of Blackheath.

the interior rooms were a lovely mix of modern and cozy old school, spots with cute decor and plants all around. i loved their addition of a fireplace which i felt really brought that homely feel to everything.

the staff were considerate, friendly and extremely helpful. especially staff member Ravi, he went beyond to help us figure out what we wanted to order, suggesting us new things to try that we might like, and where might be best for our group to sit and enjoy ourselves.

we were all extremely happy with our visit and felt so welcomed. we will definitely be coming back in the future and recommending to others. thank you again to the staff and staff member Ravi for a visit to remember.

We stopped here on a rainy summers day. They had the fireplaces lit and the ambience was excellent. The staff are super friendly.
The food... we ordered two pub classics, chicken schnittys and the good lady wife had the warm salad with grilled chicken. Blown away!!
Portions are spot on, chips are crunchy h soft at the same time, and Amy said the combination of flavours was really well balanced. With a shared sticky date pudding & ice cream we left full and needing a nap.
Total for three mains a desert & three drinks was a tick over $100. Would recommend & we will stop in again

I generally avoid eating here because there are not many vegetarian main options. Tried it again for the first time in a while and had the warm roast salad. Lovely taste but about 1/4 of the size you want it to be. Sadly, you shouldn't have to 'add chicken' in order for a main meal to be filling. The manager was very kind and gave us an extra salad between my friend and I but it still wasn't enough to fill us and we still had to order a bowl of chips as well. Good vibes but I don't think I'll be eating here again until there's a few more vegetarian options.

The food was very good. We had burgers and my toddler had the grilled children with fresh veggies. I was impressed with this healthy kids meal. It was the first restaurant we've found with something other than chips and pasta on the kids menu. We'll definitely come back!

Had lunch here today with hubby. There is one steak option on the menu with only two gravies to choose from. I enjoyed mine (cooked beautifully) but Hubby's was gristly. Food came out quickly. Young bloke behind the bar was friendly, so the grumpy bar tender some are referencing in their reviews was either not there today or has been shifted to another position.

Had lunch here today, first time. What amazing meals!! The veg ragu was so delicious! The flavours were beautiful and top quality vegetables .

Meal was quite nice and I enjoyed it. It was a steak and salad. They could do with more selection of sauces for your steak and a wider beer selection, but otherwise a vast improvement over the old Ivanhoe.

Went for lunch with my only facebook friend. Good service from the sports/back bar staff. After a tasty lunch, Bangers and Mash'....my friend left, so i could enjoy several schooners by myself watching the footy.....dreams do come true. Funny, all the guys were drinking 'Gold' from the can....Is that a Sydney thing?

We've been in town 32 yrs now and probably only visited this pub about a dozen times...the food and management was pretty damn average! An amazing transformation has taken place - decor is wonderful , food has been consistently good , Guinness on tap and great service....if only the local Chinese changed hands!

We just had lunch there for mothers day and it's a beautiful location heritage style and great food. My wife and I ordered the schnitzel and it was 10/10 the best schnitzel I've had. Probably the only drawback was the lack of sauces not even a basic gravy, but it didn't matter it still tasted fantastic. My mother inlaw had the sirloin and it came out cooked perfectly and juicey as well kids meals are a reasonable size but only 3 options. I would only suggest a few more burger options and some sauces.

A limited menu, done well, beats an over-long menu every time.

We shared the 1kg of pork ribs. Beautifully cooked with great fries in an appropriate quantity and a good coleslaw. Would just have liked some more of the home-made pickled vegetables as they were delicious.

The kitchen worked like a well oiled machine, fantastic to watch the team in action. Food was very nice. Wait staff and bar staff very friendly. Well done overall.

The food was pretty good. The chicken burger was excellent, made of real chicken and had a lovely chargrilled flavour that went well with the coleslaw. The fries were ordinary. The spiced cauliflower was okay but lacked flavour and was not very spicy. Old hotel like decor but quick service. Great for a quick low key meal and a drink.

No more pies!! So devo! It was always my favourite place in the Mountains to stop for a pie but they don't "do them anymore and haven't for some time". Such a pity. It was literally thevonly reason i went there.
Either way the beer was cold and the chips were hot and salty. I commend the new chef as the quality is clearly there, but please consider bringing back the pies!

Just bought a carton of beer there. The lady could not find the price, so picked up a calculator and multiplied bottle price by 24 bottles. She then just appeared to knock off $6. I question this and was reluctant to pay - in the end I did. On the way out I checked the four pack price and realised she had overcharged me by $6.
I then said this is a whole carton, what is the carton price? She refused to tell me the carton price but refunded $6 at any rate
She was argumentative and I was a little concerned as she had just made up the price in the first place. This is not good enough

Rude staff. No that's not right. I really mean really rude staff. On top of that their grill was not available during dinner, so only non meat items were available. I had a chicken burger which was hands down the worst meal I've eaten since before COVID. Among its greatest deficiencies was the sauce that was (without any exaggeration) so salty that it burned my tongue and overpowered the taste of anything else I was eating including the chicken fillet and the chips. To top it off, the prices were straight out of an episode Sale of the Century. I ended up paying more than thirty dollars for a burger and chips and an orange juice.

This pub used to be a great spot for a bit of dinner. I don't know what happened whether they have new management or what, but they have sure taken a hard turn sharp south!

Give this one a miss. There are plenty more great spots to eat in the area.

We had a weekend in Blackheath staying at an AirBnB. Visited this great little pub that had just been taken over by new owners. It was the friendliest service I've had for a long while - nothing was too much trouble and they were so hospitable - the "Scottish lassy" was unreal! Highly recommend a visit!

Been here a few times since I moved away from blackheath 12 years ago. Hasn't changed at all in 20 years and I love it for it. Good pub food, friendly staff, and cosy atmosphere. If you're passing through Blackheath its well worth grabbing lunch here.

Great service! Came in a big group and floor staff were diligent and very accommodating! food was delicious (especially the lamb shank) and was even better along side a nice cold beer! The verandah was nice and toasty and was very inviting after a cold afternoon. Couldn't recommend the Ivanhoe more it is Ivanhoe is integral to any blackheath trip!

A classic place to sit down for a bite and a bear (or cider in my case). This is pretty much your quintessential pub. A beautiful place with solid food and a family friendly atmosphere.

If you have been in the bush and are looking for a place to recharge, this is a good spot for it...

I was passing through for business and looking for a good meal on a cold night. The Ivanhoe is nothing flash but it has a nice bar area. I enjoyed a cold beer and ordered the roast of the day (beef) which was piping hot and served with roast vegetables and gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed.

Out dated and decent food. Look forward to seeing it after renovation. Tmneeds a new hostess.

Stopped off on our travels for lunch for 2 adults and 4 young children. They were very accommodating and the food was lovely! The kids loved sausages and chips. Thank you we will be back ?

My wife and I were looking for a some dinner on a cold, wet night. Working within the current restrictions, the management were kind and welcoming. We both enjoyed our meals of simple 'pub grub'. The accompanying chips were crispy and the veg was good.
