Okay, the manager, who is a woman. Absolutely misogynistic, was speaking to my friends and she said you do not speak to anyone that way? Did you grow up in Australia?? Absolutely self-absorbed, thinks she's better than everyone. Disgusted by the service, having a power-trip, she is abhorrent. Ruins the marly by a mile. She needs psychiatric help. Please wear a nicer top if you're gonna be denying people as well, no standards at this bar. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Everyone else but this witch was wonderful, of course she wouldn't say her name. She should be ashamed of herself. If zero stars was a possibility I would leave it at that...

Don't give you a option for a N/A for food. Didn't try it. Went on a weekend evening. Security were professional not over bearing atmosphere fun and staff really fun to be around in a loud music filled weekend. Great evening

-5 rating. Security at this premises don't know how to do their job, clearly on a power trip as they were bullied at school. We went to enter this place tonight as a group, a number of my friends ran inside while security were sleeping at the door. I did the right thing and approached the door normally and got my licence out ready for security to see, the guard then called my friends who had ran in back out. He asked if we were part of a group, we said we were.
The guard with the glasses then went on to single me out and refused me entry stating that I was intoxicated due to my gait and the fact my hands were getting my licence out of my wallet to show him my ID. Not sure how else I get my ID out, maybe the power tripper can see through wallets with his glasses. He didn't even care they my mates had ran in without him checking their ID. This guy ultimately lost your premises the service of 15 people. We ended up walking down the road to The Newtown Hotel, who let us I with no issues raised. We had an amazing night at The Newtown Hotel. I'd recommend all to go there instead of the Marley Bar. The joke was the guard was going to allow entry to my mates who had drunk more than me. Security clearly didn't want any groups into the premises tonight. I'd advise groups of people to clearly stay clear of this place and go to The Newtown Hotel instead.

I went to this bar with my boyfriend, my siblings, and my other family friends for my cousin's 20th Birthday. We were dancing and having a great time and only had one drink at the bar. I was sitting down with my boyfriend when this lady (who I think was the manager) told me to get out immediately. She said I looked drunk, and I was closing my eyes on my boyfriend's shoulder. I tried to reason with her clearly that I was not drunk at all and I was wide awake. She forced me out through the door and told me to leave and never come back in again.

Well, you got what you wanted. My family and I are never coming back in ever again. Such rudeness over nothing. Do not go to this bar; it is not worth it. There are many better places to visit in Sydney. All I wanted was to have a chill and amazing time for my cousin's birthday. I understand that the bar doesn't want to get fined and wants to make sure there are no people sleeping at the place, but honestly, I'm just wondering why things are getting stricter here in Sydney. It was never like that before, even at nightclubs.

Witnessed this security guard being verbally abusive threatening physical violence tonight at the front of your venue. Not a good look at all. Think his pants were cutting circulation to his brain. Definitely avoided coming into your venue tonight put me off how aggressive and rude he was. Absolutely shocked at his behaviour. Get new guards!

The Marly is always a fun vibe. The crowd is mixed, but in a good mood. No idiots or snobs to be found here. A decent selection of beers on tap. Food is better than your average pub grub, but don't come here looking for a health kick. It's good honest food to go with your beer. We love coming for the Thursday night bingo or even on a Saturday night for a dance. They go until the early morning, which is great.

We went there with friends to dance and have fun. One of our friends did some amazing dance moves on the dancefloor (the ones you're jealous of) and WE GOT KICKED OUT for that! The security guys wouldn't let us stay.
I am not even talking about the sticky and disgusting carpet on the floor and all the glasses everywhere.
So if you want to dance and have fun, don't go there ! Very unfriendly staff and unpleasant place.

A great burger joint in here, Jacks burgers. Aircon was great on a hot day and the beers were nice and cold. If only the dozens of people that came into the pub actually bought something instead of just use the toilet and walk out the place would be killing it.

My cousin from Portugal had a broken English and the security lady at the from didn't let him go in and because of his broken English she said he was intoxicated and he didn't had nothing to drink. I was a fully disrespectful situation when we tried to explain and she didn't let us.
It was as a clear case of xenophobia in front of my friends and family.

Staff are super friendly and enthusiastic, the floors however a pretty sticky. I do like that they go above and beyond in events, Halloween being one of their most recent. It's a good place to go for a night out, the DJs music is great to dance to with a couple of throw backs!

Average to low quality food with no innovative options to choose from.
There are no healthy options for children (not even a decent children's menu).
The beer on tap is usually bland and the customer service is really bad (I always find new staff every time I go).
There are MANY better options in the area, with similar prices, more variety and better quality, I would not recommend this place.

My friends and I were kicked out along with a group of older drunk men who approached our table who we had never met, when we calmly explained to the bouncer we didn't have anything to do with them we were physically pushed out of the venue, I was then informed I have been banned for life by the young manager which is not the first time, and yet again I asked why with no real explanation, at this stage I'm purely intrigued to what the reason is and asked if I could talk to someone else who knows why I'm banned, another manager with a beard said I could talk to the licensee but if I didn't show up all my friends with me would also be banned for life. Big bouncer with dreads was the only bouncer who was not being aggressive so props to that fella.

Denied entry for no reason & lied to that venue was closed when I was keen to have one drink after dinner at 10:30pm.
Venue was clearly still in operation and intoxicated patrons after me were permitted entry. What a shame. I can speculate on your bouncers attitude and the reason for the denial but I'm not interested in leaving that in the public review.

Very disappointing as someone who is in Sydney for a period of time for travel, I'll be sure to tell my friends, colleagues and hospo friends not to bother checking this out.

What a horrible experience. I will never be coming back here. As an old local, this pub has changed massively. It is not the friendly local pub it used to be.
Last night we went to watch the rugby that was on the big screen. They bar staff refused to put the commentary on and instead turned the music louder. Mid game they randomly closed the big screen, without notifying us. The bar manager and 3 bouncers then came over to us to tell us that we needed to leave because someone in our group was "being aggressive to the bar staff" - which was completely untrue and a fabricated story.
It became very apparent that they wanted to set up a DJ and remove all the chairs that we were sitting on.
The bar manager and bouncers handled this situation poorly and frankly they were the aggressors in the situation. There was no fair or polite communication coming from the bar manager and bouncers. There was no alternative provided of where we could move to to continue to watch the game.
It was a very disrespectful and disappointing to be treated like that as a paying patron.
To come to a pub, with a big screen, showing a game, with a friendly group of friends and be treated like this is rude, disgusting and unacceptable.
If I could give zero stars I would.
My friends and I will spread the word about how poor this pub is.

Came here for my first bar in Sydney. Door staff and glassies were quite welcoming, and the drink prices are fair with a nice party atmosphere, however I tried to request the location of the restrooms from one of the security guards and they completely snubbed me and told me to move on. Overall I had a good time, but would be nice to tend to patrons if they require your amenities.

Iconic pub in Newtown, it's been around forever! Great night out with friends, just what you'd expect in a pub, it's loud and fun ?

Dog-friendly, great menu, great atmosphere and smoking section out the back. The team are always friendly, professional & welcoming! Great place for any time or day of the week. Decent selection of draft beers (occasionally 4 Pines Pale Ale! ) and reasonably priced drinks & cocktails!

Great pub. Staff are friendly and quick, the outdoor area is spacious and nicely decorated, and the place is open til 4am, even on a Monday. Very well-managed venue

This Venue is amazing!Management is great, service beautiful and the entertainment is the best ever!!!We are making Thursdays our regular night at Marlborough hotel with the music Bingo, the two entertainers are so much fun and laughs!!! They are the main reason for us to go there seriously (apart from the trio of Tacos :P)!!!

Should not advertise that they're Buck's friendly when they will turn you away because you have had a few beers. Really? What Buck's party doesn't have beers Stay away.BTW, we went down the road to the Cooper's Hotel and had the best meal and night. Check out this venue is a must!

Love the outdoor area in this pub, not to mention a massive selection of good and local beers and a goood feed at a decent price.

The absolute worst security and management I have ever come across in my life .
Very unprofessional. Ive worked in hospitality for over 20 years and would never treat patrons the way they do .They have absolutely no social skills what so ever and shouldnt even be working in hospitality .
Very disappointed in this venue and the staff .

My partner and I were at the front entrance, phones in hand, scanning the QR code and filling out the form, to the point that I was about to hit confirm, when a man approached us and escorted us to the front bar where we were made to fill in the paper form instead (using a pen that others have obviously used) and made to believe that we couldn't use our phones to fill in the form or enter to use the toilets. Completely and ridiculously unnecessary and rude.

Update: Have been in contact with someone who has said that they have rectified and addressed this incident by making the sign in process strictly via mobile phones. Thank you for your due diligence.

The outside area is nice but smoking is allowed and almost everyone were simultaneously smoking. We spent only 2 minutes in the place & ended up leaving.

If I could give the staff 6 stars I would . The implementing of social distancing while still keeping the beautiful Newtown vibe was just... *chefs kiss*.The staff were so wonderful and attentive, and just plan amazing humans. Just so helpful and lovely. We had such a wonderful time and will be going back very soon
