I had lunch at the tavern today with a large group booking, in addition to the usual Saturday trade. Meals are great and despite the big crowd the wait was still reasonable. The grilled chicken breast with bacon and Camembert was delicious. Add in the view of the river. Thoroughly recommend this pub.

Had the chicken with bacon, avocado and prawns and partner had the special salmon. These are simply the best meals we have both had, ever. Many places fry salmon leaving it dry, overcooked and oily. This was cooked properly for salmon, poached and perfectly cooked. Staff were friendly and attentive. They had signs up saying don't disrespect staff etc. How could you do that when the staff are so nice? My only complaint is at the bar, the horsewhipping was quite audible, despite only one or two paying attention. Perhaps the people that didn't win watching little people with squeaky voices whipping horses were the ones causing trouble. Also, children were allowed unaccompanied in the bar that had the horse whipping. This breaches licensing laws. As a mature society, most people hate seeing and hearing horses being whipped. Perhaps mute the animals being whipped. Will recommend and come back.

Too good not to share. Even though I selfishly want to keep this gem to myself!
Ferry ride over the Clarence was cute and short. Run's 24/7
Food was really great. I got lucky and arrived on the $12 Gourmet Burger night Tuesday. Excellent value for money and very tasty. I had the bbq pulled pork & slaw & Miss Lilly had the chicken, bacon, salad and Camembert. Both came beautifully presented with side of chips. Really friendly staff made me & my date for the night, my pup Lilly, very welcome.
There's about a dozen vans and campers here at the moment room for more maybe 2 more on the grassed area... but we are fairly spread out. 2 showers and a toilet unisex. Very clean and a book exchange -$10/night What more could you want?
I give this stop over a 10/10.
What a way to start a road trip! I'll be back on the return trip for sure.

Stay behind the Lawrence Tavern on lush green grass, amongst the trees.
The unisex facilities are cleaned to sparkling by John. Toilets, shower, power and a book exchange for those inclined.
The drive here past cattle, sheep, sugar cane and corn was wonderful after hours of hwy.
A delight to find this place

Very nice pub located near the clarence river. Very busy when we went but still managed to get a table. The food was delicious and the drinks were cold. Highly recommend and not far off the highway if you want to take a more scenic route.

We arrived for lunch and sat outside under cover with gas heaters . Very nice. I enjoyed Chicken Parmagiana. It came with salad and chips. All very tasty. Even the salad was delicious which is not always the case in some restaurants. I would recommend the Tavern to everyone.

Food was of its usual high standard, except it was not hot. Disabled access is nonexistant. There is also no lock on the Disabled toilet which is also a Mother's room. Hope to see improvements all round.

Not a bad place in general, very hospitable and good food, BUT (and it's a BIG but):

One would think that a pub located on the biggest river on the east coast, with trawlers and a huge fishing industry, the Lawrence Tavern would do good fish and seafood dishes?

The choice of inexpensive fresh or cooked seafood on their menu is very, very disappointing. Really, instead of mimicking typical pub grub that can be got at any pub in Australia, they should raised the bar a bit and make use of their location and local abundant resources.

Wonderful find, flat grass area for camping and quiet but limited space, tarmac road all the way. $10 per night for 2 adults including showers and toilets. Food at the pub is fantastic service just as good. Very good value and great selection on the menu.
Wonderful country pub ?
