My partner and I stayed here for 1 night during our drive from Brisbane to Melbourne and I couldn't recommend it more. It was our best stay during the trip! The room was super clean and really comfortable. The staff were kind and professional and check after hours was super easy. Also can't forget to mention it was really affordable for what it was. Would recommend and would stay again!

We got away from Sydney for the weekend, and I must say staying at the lakes&ocean hotel was amazing. The lake view room we had was great, very clean and comfortable, the bathroom makes you feel like you're in a 5-star hotel, and the views are amazing, i highly recommend it. We also enjoyed the drinks at the bar and dinner at the bistro. Nice atmosphere friendly staff. Thanks for making our weekend amazing guys. We will definitely be back.

Average dinner. We ordered the seafood platter for 2. Had no marinated octopus or coconut prawns as advertised. Tasted like it came straight from a prepacked bag in the freezer.
Wanted to order oysters as entree but apparently sold out 30mims into dinner service. Wouldn't recommend the food here at all.

We had such a nice afternoon/evening here! Our little dog was made to feel so welcome in the terrace beer garden, and the sunset across the lake was spectacular! The staff are lovely - nothing was too much trouble - and the food is amazing! Can't recommend highly enough. Look forward to coming back for one of the live music sessions!

Came here for lunch for my anniversary with my boyfriend. Such great food and lovely service. The venue looks it can host large groups with accomodating space between tables. Also great for small kids, as it has swings outside. I would definitely come back whenever I'm in Forster again.

We were extremely satisfied with our lunch here. First and foremost we were relieved to know our dogs were welcome in the beer garden whilst we had a few drinks and lunch. There was some live music and the atmosphere was great. The service at both the bar and the bistro were always pleasant and helpful and despite being so busy the food was ready in good time. The food was fresh and tasty and so were the drinks. Located in a great spot to over look the Coolongolook River and surrounds.

My wife and I visited here in late March for lunch and a couple of drinks. The pub is in a great location overlooking the water. The young woman behind the bar provided excellent, friendly service. We had the weekday lunch deal for $15 each. I had bangers and mash, and my wife had the battered fish and chips. We both enjoyed our meals very much. The attitude and friendliness of the kitchen staff were not quite up to the standard of the bar staff. Overall, we would recommend visiting, particularly for the pleasant outlook.

Great place to stay overnight, quick and tidy and yes being above a pub ....well that's worked out rather well at the end of the day.
Location is great, right across the road and car park from the water.
I opted for the room with a nice shower and a great queen bed but there were even cheaper options and a couple of more expensive ones too but I would hardly call this place expensive. For me the price was what made me decide to stay overnight rather than chance the long return trip to Sydney at night.
I will stay here again

We come here every Easter and Australia Day. This place has been going down hill for years. The food 4 years ago was amazing but has now turned to very poor service and food quality. I ordered a rump steak and couldn't eat half of it as it was stringy mush. The wife's cutlets were the size of a 20 cent piece. There are better places to eat guys don't do it.

Was looking forward to fresh seafood, waited close to an hour an a half before we went up to ask where our food was. They didn't print the ticket off for the kitchen to cook. Put our orders on priority, fish was missing lemon sauce and gravy which was ordered. Sisters pasta was cooked horribly, chicken was dry and mushrooms were still raw. Brother in laws chicken was still pink and my partners chicken had freezer burn. Incredibly disappointed please avoid this place if you care for your time and health.

This place was unfortunately the biggest letdown. I don't want to be super harsh for the rating but I love country pubs and this place didn't offer much that I love about country pubs. Drinks prices were good, location good, view good. The food needs significant improvement. We don't care that we have to collect from the pass. That is all fine and the Bruschetta for entree was fine. When you pay $44 for a 300 gram Scotch Fillet you expect it to be outstanding(Steak that size should be $35 worst case). What I didn't want was cold mash, cold chips and cold veggies. I don't want a luke warm steak and I certainly don't want a mushroom sauce that resembles mushroom soup that you can buy in a can. It was a huge disappointment. Many of my friends stop in Forster on their way to Sydney and I hope they can recommend a better place for my next visit.

This place is so disappointing. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff. Reasonable food but poor at price point given the non-existent service. Big pub with lots of patrons but only one bar open. I had to leave my little dog alone at our dirty table in beer garden and walk right through pub to fetch a beer. Beer and wine selection was basic in a 1970s sense. Then back and forth through pub to order and pick up food. And back again for a 2nd beer. After a long driving day, I decided a nightcap at home might be fun. But their bottle shop was closed and they didn't sell takeaways from bar. I mentioned to my motel manager how bad I thought it was and he agreed totally. Said it was a blot on the town and "typical monopoly arrogance ". Needs new management!

Where do I start,

Firstly the drinks are watered down completely I got a small lemonade that tasted like sugar water

Secondly we placed our order then for them to tell us 3 times in an hour they were out of certain foods, one being cheese and bacon for a cheesy bacon garlic bread, they still made us pay full price for a garlic bread $15

The food was mediocre, I've had better. Especially at the price they're charging for food and drinks you'd expect it to be at a better quality.

I will not be returning and I do not recommend this place.

Walking past it looked inviting, so we planned our first holiday lunch there.The interior and atmosphere have been renovated but there are hints of its former glory, it is now a awful blend of a McDonalds and a Westfeild Food Hall.
Service is begrudging, food is overpriced and bland. I'm sure the owners are very proud taking money from their community with their rows/ rooms of poker machines, but for us...................should have kept walking.

Great food and atmosphere. What a shame the owner of the venue got cranky at a child for turning on a gaming machine. When we said that it wasn't our child she continued to yell at my sister in law who is trying to nurse two 6 month old twins.

... then had security called. What a joke.

Very friendly staff and accommodating but outside tables weren't cleaned by staff, food plates left, patrons glasses, over 1 hour before staff attended. Smoker's in non smoking areas of premises, gambling area ashtrays full and glasses everywhere. This was a Saturday and busy, more staff needed.

My steak was cooked medium rate and had a good grill taste but my mates pork ribs were cold. I must say, they did have a couple of a hundred meals to cook. Very popular place.

Great place for a drink and food.
Musician Phil McKnight was playing there tonight, brilliant guy beautiful sound, loved his voice , great songs from 70s 80s 90s.
Definitely recommend this place and Phil McKnight.

Part of hot meal came out cold and my friend's meal not good. This place use to be good food but last couple times the restaurant food lacks quality and taste. New staffing?? Not sure but won't be in a hurry to eat there again. Also $9 for a pear cider on ice? Price hikes too!!??

Accommodation was good. Bathrooms newly renovated and rooms are basic but all you need for a night or two. Didn't eat here as came up for a function. Friday and Sat night you do hear the "happy noise" from below but remember this is a hotel. For me it was happy noise to fall asleep to be a super light sleeper may need ear plugs. Felt safe as a single traveller. Good value option.

I had the $15 steak special last night (Tuesday) and it beat expectations to say the least. The steak was cooked perfectly, the chips are great and the salad isn't just your average pub salad!

I absolutely love this place. I often come in for the egg and bacon roll + coffee for $10 breakfast deal in the Bistro section. While the food is lovely, it's not actually the main reason I come in. I actually come in because of the staff. They truly are outstanding. I give special mention to Murray and Gay who are two of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure to meet in a very long time. They absolutely make this place a gem. Their hospitality is off the charts. They are great to talk to and they give the place an ambience that you just don't get anywhere else. I cannot think of a single restaurant/cafe in the 1.5 years my partner and I have been travelling in Australia where we have been so warmly welcomed.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place. Great service and the food was absolutely amazing. Such large serves of everything we ordered and all 6 of us raved about the food. The salad was the best I've ever eaten (most places it's not great and the sauce/dressing on it is horrible, as I'm fussy with dressings). Simply couldn't fault this place in any way. It's such a pity we're only in Forster for another 8 days, but we will make sure we eat here again (hopefully several times) before we leave.

Brilliant ribs night on Tuesday. Great value for $15 plus a drink. If you walk along the river after dark you might spot a dolphin!

Been twice for High Tea. - YES High Tea in Forster. Murray & staff went out of their way to make both visits worthwhile. Table settings was perfect. Food. - you get sandwiches, hot & cold + beautiful little cakes, Coffee & Tea also. Three different levels, $15, $18. $22. Iv done $15 twice now, delicious.

Ate dinner here on a Tuesday night, was less than impressed with the quality of the my meal. Ordered the fish special of the day (Grilled Barra) and it was ordinary. Portion size was less than impressive, about 8cm in length and quite narrow. Skin was soggy and not the crispy flavoursome skin you expect from Barra, I had to take it off. Wouldn't mind if the price reflected the quality, but at $28 it was more than a bit rich. Wouldn't recommended.

Great bar staff. Food can be a little hit and miss though. Great place to enjoy watching the sunset over the Wallis Lake. They also serve a nice cold Reschs. #reschsrefreshes.

The scotch fillet and mash potatoes was the worst... avoid it, on the positive the calamari and burgers are the good. Really busy during dinner if you want social distancing request a table out the front on the lake side

Nice little Pub / Tavern on the waterfront.Entertainment after 5pm Friday's.Lovely meals, nice atmosphere, friendly staff.Beside a couple of "Hitlers" adhearing fiercely to distancing rules and kids STAYING IN THEIR SEATS.Which I take offence to - "Implying healthy, normal (Pre-COVID Scamdemic) folks are STEADING SOMETHING THEY DO NOT HAVE...Just enjoying a family WAKE after a funeral, at a local venue that had a nice spacious outdoor area, as family from NSW, QLD could find some serenity....Wishing life would go back to normal...

The old lady managing Check - in Covid requirements has absolutely no customer service.Also, I would recommend to adopt another form of sign in for people without the mobile phoneBesides that she was extremely rude and not helpful she made a couple of insulting comments.Working in the same industry this is absolutely shocking experience.

Visited in wheelchair during covid-19 restrictions. Staff opened locked door for access and were very accommodating. Very nice lunch and will certainly return.

This place has friendly staff. Staff are happy in the work place. Rooms are cleaned daily by very competent staff. Thank you cleaning staff. Views over the lake are beautiful. Central to all restaurants and the beach. I recommend The Lakes and Ocean Hotel.
