Ordered 'chicken scallopini' from the specials board and after eating 4-5 mouthfuls realised it was completely raw chicken.
Absolutely disgusted, the only form of refund was the price paid for the meal, no extra vouchers/drinks. Will never recommend this place again.

Went to the Thursday Night Karaoke 26th of October, very impressive team behind the bar. 3 staff on who were quick and worked as a real team. Also I had the best Cappuccino I've had in years at 11pm at night. The security were great, keeping it under control with no drama or heroics. Whoever is doing the hiring and training is doing a great job. The Karaoke is loads of fun and the guy running it keeps the show rolling really well. A great night out.

Hubby and I hadn't been for awhile, and had enjoyed the great food there in the past. But unfortunately our latest experience was disappointing. The staff were so lovely, so the customer service was on point. But our meals were abismal! My husband received a rump steak the size of my palm with 3 halved roast chat potatoes and some sauce. There was no veges or salad with his overpriced meal. I ordered seafood linguine...which was a bowl of linguine with a few pieces of some sort of white fish and a small amount of squid....$26?!?! No prawns or anything normally included in a seafood pasta, and I had to season it to be palatable! $80 + for a meal and 2 beers. Probably won't be back, but commendations to the guy on the bar who was very personable and efficient.

Expensive. Went on a Saturday, drinks were expensive for what they were, $11 for a vodka soda short.

Rude staff. Bar tender went off at me while I was trying to pay saying I was slowing things down and that I was being very frustrating even though no one else was at the bar, never had such a bad experience with bar staff.

Good venue. It's got a balcony and places to sit even on a Saturday so that's why there is one star.

The Kent was a place I felt safe.

A place I could come with my spare cash and spend it on a fairly priced oak and coke or two. The fact that they have raised the price from $5 to $6.50 without warning had not only caused me financial stress but also considerable social stress as my round is now 30% more expensive.

The fact that I can no longer spend my hard earned cash at the Kent will hurt not only patrons but also the Kent as a whole.

I attended The Kent on Saturday 24/06/23 - about 930pm after having dinner on Beaumont St for my Birthday. I was greeted by a security man that displayed absolutely atrocious misogynistic behaviour towards myself, My friend and a group of older ladies that were to trying to sign in to the venue. He spoke to us like farm animals and was so rude! ordering us around, not even a "Hello"??. Telling us to MOVE out of the way when I was scanning my barcode as per instructions. He then ordered us into a single line and proceeded to talk to us like idiots! Explaining each step to try and humiliate us! We were not intoxicated or being difficult. It was not crowded or busy and we all know how to sign into a venue...thanks Covid!

That man definitely needs an attitude adjustment, a new job and a trip to the ophthalmologist!!

Completely put a wet blanket on my night. I had one drink and left in disgust as I couldn't get past it! At what point is it ok to treat anyone like this? Please explain??

I'm not sure where they got these photos, but I went there last Sunday, and fully checked the whole place out upstairs and down and the place was run down and upstairs stank it had long unfinished refurbishments and we all ordered dinner there and mine was great but a few people had ordered but it came literally hours later so they demanded refunds.. I'm not saying don't go there cause hey.. it's the KENT.. but don't have hopes of a beautiful, well run pub cause you'll just get disappointed. I feel kinda bad leaving a revue like this, but hey.. it's the TRUTH.. oh, also, the food menu is tiny.. There's not much to pick from.. somewhere they could improve, but they probably don't want to, and I suppose I can see why.. peace!

Went for lunch on Monday. Waited a very long time for food. There appeared to be only 1 cook in the kitchen. We were not warned of long wait times. Saw others asking for money back as they had to go back to work before the lunch was served.

The food was good except for the smallest serving of garlic bread I have ever paid for.

Kind of dissatisfied with the over all experience unfortunately.

It's not often that I don't feel the rugby love.

But tonight at the Kent Hotel in Newcastle I have to say.

You're staff went above and beyond to make me feel unwanted.

I wasn't rude, or offensive.

I just at the time was trying to remember the order my shout was. Yes I stumbled asking for my shout. But that was taken as I was drunk and a disruptive influence.

Well let's see what a negative review does.

We are here for trivia most Wednesday nights and we all agreed that Alex the barman on Wednesday night (19/10/22) was outstanding. Super friendly, as soon as someone was at the bar he was there. He took extra care pouring our jugs of beer (we all know they can get a bit frothy) which was stayed at the table and overall just great service with a smile thankyou Alex!!

Great vegan schnitty and huge vegan burger.

My vegan schnitzel with a party topper included "sheese" in my opinion the best mock dairy option on the basis of taste and melting.

Our garlic cheese focaccia also had this sheese and was really yummy.

My partner enjoyed their vegan burger but the serving size was quite large.

Heaps of fries.

We had the $12.50 Schnitzel Special. Nice big Thick Scnitzel , lots of chips and a great salad that has an awesome dressing. If anyone complains about this they are hard to please. The gentleman serving was friendly. The tables clean. The environment friendly and comfortable for people who are not "pub" or crowd people. We had soft drinks they are a little heavy on price for post mix but hey cheap lunch, you can't complain.

Would give no stars but have to give 1! Firstly was overcharged! Twice! Had to pick up the $30 error ourselves then get a refund. The Schnitzel was absolutely disgusting! Was like I was eating a packet load of Panko crumb with some white moosh inside! Plus the signage is wrong (apparently it's $3.50 more for the potato chats and veg but the sign doesn't say that as per the photo). Staff look sad and depressed mostly the woman it seemed. Was too scared to go back at the time of getting food cos all of it was pretty bad after spending close to $180. Just didn't eat it. Management (lady, won't say name) just said sorry we busy & understaffed (is that an excuse?) was gobsmacked at lack of smile and service, so much flat looking faces, the guy upon entry was the only smile and light of the whole place!

Went in on a Tuesday night for dinner. Had the $15 Tues special - steak, chips & salad. Food was great pub grub & filling. Staff were great. Totally Covid prepared & safe. Not very busy either so, we didn't have to wait.
(Haven't been to the Kent since I was in over 20 years!! ? Certainly bought back a lot of fabulous memories!!)

One person behind the bar on a Wednesday evening (student night) when every other bar nearby had minimum of three. Enjoy waiting for a drink for 15 minutes if you want to come here .

Ordered food from the place. Food was tasty but I feel like it was a bit on the cold side. I understand that is won't be the freshest because of deliver but I feel I must take away one start.

A dedicated vegan menu brought us here in a visit from Sydney, and wow it didn't disappoint. We had the mushroom steaks, noodle salad, Corn ribs and ginger beer battered artichokes. The mushroom steaks were sensational, as were the corn ribs. The noodles in the salad were a bit hard like they should have been cooked a little longer and the artichoke tasted a bit too vinegary, so I assume it was the type from the jar in vinegar, a rinse should do the trick to remove a bit more of it and it would have been a great dish. All up we were impressed by the creativity of the menu and the effort to make sure vegans are catered for. We will be back!

While we ordered the scotch fillets, I felt that our beef with this eatery left the taste of rump in our mouths... However, they were done to perfection & therefore easy on the palate.
The gravy was delicious, the potatoes done to a turn & the greens slightly softened but firm.
We also had the garlic & cheese sourdough, which became a real treat when dipped in the gravy.
Unfortunately, we were visited by two small cockroaches from the wall...
Oh well!.

Staff and service was good.
All bar areas need a thorough wash. The bar areas smelled of off beer which is a sign of no regular wash out of the bar areas. The carpets also smelled of mildew and aged spilled drinks. They dont seem to have been shampooed in a very long time. Nice old pub if it was thoroughly cleaned and washed regularly.

I had the chicken schnitzel for dinner, with chips and mushroom sauce. Really good quality chicken as well as very good meal size. Actually, it was bloody huge and only $19, too. Probably best " schnitzel value in town.....other places charge $25 or more for something most likely not as good. Only problem was I was hoping to watch the tennis while eating but they weren't showing it, from what I could see.

Traditional pub - nice place for a quiet beer with your mates. Pub fare was good value on my visit.

Awesome new menu.If vegan is your thing, they have a full vegan menu, with as many items as the normal menu.Reasonable prices. Friendly setting. Quick kitchen.

Two story Federation style pub on Beaumont Street in Hamilton. Great spot. Tough to park but the train station is two blocks away. I used to love this pub but when I was in there the other day, the glass of Chardonnay was so bad I walked out after one sip and left the glass on the table. Very disappointing.

Rejected entry as from Sydney. Very sad as The Kent was my favourite uni pub 25 years ago so was looking forward to visiting again. Did end up having a fantastic meal and drinks at The Exchange. I highly recommend a visit there. Clearly The Kent doesnt need additional patronage.
