Not really a place for visitors judging by the lack of staff to help direct you or welcome you, you basically have to figure out what to do on your own. Order online only and impose the card surcharge despite not giving you an option to pay cash. Order drinks via the app and they don't get delivered apparently. But no idea what happens and why you bother ordering online if they don't come to the table. Turns out it didn't even print at the bar. Dirty table for well over half hour. Food gets lost and sent to wrong tables, definitely could have some big improvements since its in a pretty good location. Rotten lettuce in the salad.
Rooms are bottom of the barrel, sunken beds, pubes on bed, used shampoo and conditioner in the shower, wet door frame at bathroom upon entry to the room, toilet looked as though it had been used and not cleaned, window partially open with no protection on it, was expecting old, not feral. Has aircon, and fan, though.

We always have a good meal here. 4 Sunday roasts cost $68, and drinks were extra. Met some Townsville friends for a catch-up,as we are from Mackay. Meals were huge and came out quickly. We will be back next time we are in Townsville.

The hotel itself is a bit old, so I wasn't expecting much. However, the service was great, the staff was helpful and lovely, the room was clean, the sheets were soft and I slept like a baby for a fair price. 5/5.

Dirty rooms. When we moved in the old soap stuck in the middle of the shower. Stains everywhere. Rust. Airconditioning was never serviced: cannot see the grill over dust. Noisy. The location is good. Stayed in room No 2

As soon as we walked into our room we were met with a cockroach. Partner ended up killing 3 and seeing at least 3 other ones just in our room alone in our not even 12 hr stay. Didn't expect much for the price but wasn't expecting to sleep in a cockroach hotel.

The first meal i ordered was a chicken parmarajarne and salad the hot chicken was put on top of the salad not so nice when it cost good money for the meal when you complain they offer a replacement meal i ordered the roast of the day i have to admit the roast beef was very nice but as for the rest of the meal was very poor very sad to see for i have been there to have many a meal and the food is perfact shame they have gone down that bad i need to ring to get a replacement meal

It's a shame the rooms are the way they are, because the staff are fantastic. But by god the rooms. The honour of the humble roach would be in question describing the top floor as a roach motel.

After dancing around the mould on the shower floor, I realised the black mould from the shower curtain had fallen off in clumps onto my arms. I could've woven a blanket from the lint buildup in the extractor fan, and the main room mirror had a sus little cavity behind it. AC didn't work without a service manual download and 'percussive maintenance.' All in all: sucked.

Won't be back to stay without some TLC, but would definitely stop in for a beer ??'?

We were very disappointed with this booking. The suite didn't match nor the description nor photos at all. We were supposed to have fully equipped kitchen and the only things we had were kettle and fridge. And obviously we thought we will be able to cook ourselves so we bought some food for our dinner that we had to chuck out this morning because we weren't able to cook it and we had to hit the road early morning and we don't have a fridge in the car to keep the food fresh!
Not only we didn't have a kitchen the suite itself was just disgusting and old! Gaps between the wall and AC, AC was dripping with rust on the walls. We had no access to couple of the balconies because they were screwed closed with a metal plates. No lock and no HANDLE on the balcony doors. So we couldn't even lock the doors! And the walls were completely dirty in there.
There were sheets screwed down to the wall covering some holes or something. Cabinetry where was the fridge the bottom was completely rotten! Big paint patches on the seiling and walls in different colors. One of the balcony doors were covered with some sort of plastic wrap and looked very bad! There was even a whole in one of the bedroom doors.
The beds on one of the bedrooms were blocking the access to the big closet.

Nothing like in the pictures! We had completely different suite! When we went to sort it out at the reception they told us that everything else is booked and we can't get the suite we actually booked! Even tho we booked it very long time ago! We asked for a refund but the only way for us to get it would be if we move out which we obviously couldn't do as there was not time for us to look for another place to stay! And it would cost us lots of money because it would be last minute!
And honestly this hotel should be shut down until renovations!

We really liked the location and the staff was super friendly, but this place could use some rennovation. Rooms definitely need some update - the carpet had holes and burns, and the wall needed painting. It was also pretty loud at night, lots of people sitting outside our room, playing music and talking. Definitely not worth staying here for the price you pay!

Location to places for eating and the beach, service was amazing. Massive thank you to the staff whilst i was staying. Rooms were not in good condition though. Everything needs to be updated and you only have a tv, bar fridge and kettle in the room. "NO toaster or cutlery in room". Also extreamly load so not recommended for young kids.
The photos of the room when booking didnt match the room irl. If an update was done to all rooms i would consider another visit.

Uber eats order, arrived in a timely manner, . Quality of food was completely shocked. Very over cooked pork cutlet and smaller than my palm, soggy beans chips serving ridiculously small. Paid extra for Gravy and it was missing from my order. So poorly dealt with, a managers job is to support customers when they receive something of such poor quality/quantity. Took 1.5hrs to then be told kitchen closed and she is unable to resolve the issues tonight. Now I will have no dinner. Absolutely appalling. I have been a valued customer for a long time with regular orders. Clearly this was a waste of my time and hotel Allen manager staff do not care. Manager was rude and dismissive, other employee was empathetic and professional on phone.

I stay here often due to the great location and price. Needs upgrading but it's clean and comfortable. I love that they let us park our motorcycles inside on the grass!

Came to tville for a friend's health procedure. Town run out of hotels due to long weekend and holidays. I've never stayed in "pub hotel" before. So Allen was the last left. stayed in #30. Was a great surprise. Friendly bar staffs. Friendly patrons. And the lady behind the reception was awesome. Now I wish I stayed longer! My kind of accommodation. Definitely will stay here again. Oh, and it's opposite supermarket and only couple blocks from the strand.

Rooms are in terrible condition, stank of bleach upon arrival. Water marks on walls, mould on walls and in bathrooms. Fridge didn't seal, was reported twice, told maintenance would fix but never did and our food was only just kept cold.

We have been going to Trivia for a few weeks now and we look forward to it every week, the staff are amazing, Kath especially, she is always on the go but still makes time for her guests, Kaths customer service is a credit to your establishment and we won't go anywhere else on a Tuesday, the food is touch and go but is still good. Keep up the good work.

Not less than one star possible - and this one is earned by the employees as they were really nice.
The bed sheets had stains, we put our own clothes on top so we could sleep. We left the room to get some food, came back to find plenty of cockroaches making them selves home under our luggage.
We decided to sleep with the lights on due to the cockroaches. The air con, even tho it works, was so loud, we felt like we were on a airplane taking off the entire night.

The hotel also decided the clean the pool at 4am waking us up.

All in all, this is probably the worst hotel experience we've had.

Older building but value for money the Allen is the only pub i stay in when in Townsville, very friendly staff , im sad to say but the last meal i had there was roast chicken & roast veggies , i couldn't eat it that dried up chicken may have been a few days old veggies were great just not the chicken,

I was looking for a cheap hotel for a place to sleep for the night. I did not have high expectations, and my expectations were pretty much met and even a little exceeded.

The hotel was cheap - it was nothing flash, but it was clean, easy to get to, and served its purpose. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Shower was decent. Surprisingly quiet as well - it was pouring down outside and I only realised when I opened the bathroom door.

No wifi at all.

The staff were EXCELLENT. They went above and beyond, which I admittedly was surprised at. Very friendly, very welcoming, very accommodating.

This hotel is not the Taj Mahal, but if you're not fussy and you want an easy, affordable, and welcoming stay - definitely recommend. I'd stay here again for an overnighter.

...Maybe not for long trips though.

Not one to usually leave a review but the atmosphere tonight at trivia was great. The service was amazing and the food was even better. Special mention to the two lovely staff members Shelly and kath for always making my visits feel special. Keep up the good work guys!

The Hotel Allen is a great little local pub, the service from the manager on duty Kath was exceptional, she was such a pleasure to deal with and nothing was to much trouble, definitely service with a smile.

Outstanding value for money accommodation. Very handy location, nice pool, beer garden, friendly staff. I'd definitely stay here again!

Meals were great, the service was amazing from Kath, she is so considerate and funny, pretty sure my grandad wanted to adopt her. Really old hotel but it adds to the charm. We will definitely be back.

The chicken parmi was overall okay. It could have been better though. The size of the container for the mushroom sauce was ridiculously small, barely giving me enough to finish my meal with. The chips were blands and lacked seasoning. The salad was drenched in dressing, making it hard to eat. Despite all this, I would still come back and order from here again. The staff are friendly and the food, while not perfect, is good enough for me to overlook its flaws.

If you're looking for a good meal at a reasonable price, Hotel Allen is a great option. The chicken parmi is a particularly good choice - just be sure to ask for extra sauce on the side!

The hotel was dirty and gross. Literally had a roach run over us in bed. Smelled like old socks and there was marks and stains all over the carpets. The sheets were clean though and the AC cold. But this place is not great overall. Cheap as but this is reflected in the room quality.

The staffs are great and fast responds. Room is nice and worth the price. In the morning, we got problem with the water. They let us have late check out with no drama, so we can have shower.

Fantastic staff, very Friendly. Memories of your typical "Local". Kath behind the bar was awesome.

Great hospitality and corrected my Friday night meal with no fuss. Great food and accommodation was pleasant. Was great few days away.

Great old pub. Stayed there with family in Suite 1. Good helpful staff, yummy food and great tropical gardens with pool. Very affordable and close to everything. Thanks for our stay overnight while travelling and exhausted.

Great half price menu meal deals on Monday nights. Good food and good service!

Hotel allen is quiet pub with heaps of atmosphere. Great service at reasonable prices. Not the most fashionable venue but if you want a quiet drink with friends and family it has a lot of space to have a good time

It seems they have different rooms with some better than others but from what ive seen I say Just don't stay there. Find yourself a park bench or sleep under a bridge, anything is better. Location is great and staff are friendly but the rooms will leave you with PTSD and God knows what else. I hope they spend some money on the place because it could be good.

Staff are fantastic, helpful and super friendly! Food was cooked brilliantly and plenty of it. Plenty of drinks to choose from and great prices. Rooms are also clean, great value and have comfy beds. Will be back!

The rooms are very bad. The staffs and cleaners are very nice. Great location, cheap price.

The rooms are terribly dated and not cleaned very well. There's hair all through the shower, suspicious stains on the carpet and we found a cockroach between the pillows. On the plus side the rooms are a decent size, the air con is cold and the hotel is close to everything. Wouldn't recommend staying and won't be back.

BED BUGS.. The cheaper price is not worth the ever lasting itch. Me and my little one, who slept on the double bed have not stopped scratching since leaving. (Suite 6). No receptionist available during their checkout times. They don't return your call. When I finally got through to them, their attitude was blaz and rather rude, considering I was only calling them to inform them of the issue, not for a refund. Originally I would have considered rating them a 5,based on the potential that place has once renovated, however, the receptionists 'denial attitude' destroyed it....Spend the little extra down the road, and save yourself the itch.. 3days later and the itch is not going away..

Descent Food for price, very good price for accommodation (family room). Can't fault the staff very friendly and helpful. Good location.
