Rude, overbearing and arrogant security at the door and throughout the pub. If you want a bad night out and to be ordered around by the staff this is the place for you. The Karaoke host has a chip on her shoulder, no talent and treats patrons like a problem to be handled instead of guests. It explains why she has two shows at this pub on a Friday and Saturday and no others. The drinks are overpriced, the publican is missing in action and the manager thinks he's the leader of the security team instead of the head of customer service. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs. Mind you, by the lack of a crowd in the place you likely already do.

Update! After two weeks I returned to see if this review made any difference. It sure did, I'm barred from the venue! Join me and become one of the people proudly barred from the Hamilton Station Hotel. Apparently you don't have to be drunk, aggressive or overbearing to be excluded from this establishment. Just call them out for their unprofessional conduct and you too can join the club. And again by the size of the crowd that I saw before attempting entry, you likely are. We should print t-shirts.

2nd update - wow! Lots of short 5 star reviews since I put out the truth on this place. Do you think the overgrown children running this pub are soliciting positive reviews from their few friends to massage their bruised egos? Really looks that way.

We absolutely LOVE the Hamilton station hotel. We are so lucky to be able to call it our local & our home away from home. We feel nothing but comfortable there, this is due to the friendly & fun staff, the easy going lovely patrons, the security team & the karaoke host. They all do whatever they can to make our night a good one. The food is always spot on & the atmosphere is always buzzing. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

What a great venue! If you want to have a fantastic night, Friday and Saturday Karaoke is awesome. People just have a crack! I am often surprised by the talent in the area and even those that aren't so great have a fantastic time and are appreciated for their bravery. If you don't have a good time and find this night not for you... maybe you should check with your friends if you are as fun as you think you are. Because a night at the Hamo is well worth your time. As a regular visitor, I love the place and am sure you will too.

I have been coming here for about 18 years and I can't fault this venue. It is a fun, friendly and highly inclusive environment with fairly priced drinks and friendly bar staff and security. Their reputation for being the home of karaoke speaks for itself. Alicia's karaoke is the best in Newcastle. Not only is she very welcoming and friendly but she knows how to entertain a crowd.

If you want an awesome night out make sure you hit the station hotel. Karaoke and live bands at its finest. If you're into your karaoke you'll have an absolute ball. Ali who runs the karaoke is awesome and knows her stuff. The bar staff and all of the security make sure you have a safe enjoyable night. I've been hitting the station for over 20 years and will always continue to support the venue. Again if you want a fantastic night out the station hotel is the place to be.

Your staff are extremely rude. We asked for extra drinks on top of the drinks we ordered and the bartender told us to 'not have attitude'. We also questioned the extra 20c surcharge on our drinks but the bartender couldn't tell us what it was for, which we asked whether their RSA Marshal knew about, and they couldn't answer that either.

Pretty good local pub. Very unpretentious Has a food truck which has good chips with gravy and chicken wings. Service is good and beers are standard price.

The chap working in the foodtruck/bistro on Anzac Day evening was an absolute star, by himself getting smashed with orders but still on time tasted great plus gave us a free ladle of gravy on our chippies, legend!

Small little nepalese bloke that works there got physically violent and hit my friends card out of his hand onto the ground twice. I think hes just mad that he works at a pub over the age of 30 though. Seems like hes mad at life or something

Upon arriving at Hamilton Station Hotel, I went to the toilets with my 2 mates and was told that we needed to leave. Did not realise the toilet was one person only. Once we realised, immediately we left and abided by the rules and direction of staff. No arguing whatsoever. This did not matter and we still got kicked out. Whoever the blonde chick was that was working there, she was also kicking out others and rolling her eyes, making it look like she did not want to be there. Really really disappointed in how we were treated tonight. Won't be returning...

Will happily take your full drink off your table if you sing karaoke in their venue 1 of 5 stars would give less if I could but the lady at the bar bragged about the fact that's what they do as the norm

Best place in newcastle to have a few drinks with friends. Large tables in the beer garden, live music, friendly staff and even friendlier security. Never a dull night here!

Fast and efficient service. The food truck style meals were so delicious and quick! Like an old school pub with smokers area out the back. Loved this watering hole!

Me and the gurls (??'?absolute qweens??'?) went to this place and it was quite problematic. First of all, my friend who is non-human shaped head bumped into the door frame because they were ableist and didn't account for people with extremely elongated heads visiting their venue.

Secondly, there was not enough POC (people of colour) inside the building and there was a lot of white people which made me and my friends feel uncomfortable. Please put more effort into making the space a more inviting venue for the marginalised communities.

Third, they did not have any vegan free-range IPA offers which made my hecking valid and beautiful trans friend feel very underrepresented. Btw she is a heckin valid women so don't even try to go there.

Last of all, I was happy at the amount of allies there who all were sporting their favourite rainbow hair colours and their was a lot of body positivity shown in the venue as I would say 1/2 of the people who were plus sized. That is so awesome, but we struggled to move around with the minimal room left after the 20 people at the bar blocked the entire venue. Could you please update your venue to make it more easy for us plus sized qweens to move about. Thanks.

Played a gig here with my hardcore punk band. Surprisingly felt quite comfortable rubbing shoulders with the karaoke crowd in the main bar. The staff were a very good looking and poured many a tasty beverage for me and my fellow band mates, especially the bass player who drank a heap and had a fantastic night??'?

I love the vibe in this pub. Its my favourite pub when I visit Newcastle. An eclectic mix of patrons that gives the pub a chilled and laid back vibe.
Also, bloody great food.

The place is really nice and very relaxed and layed back but, the bar staff were rather rude and treated my friends and I as if we were doing the wrong thing. We are all overage (we are all 20) and were treated as though we were trying to sneak in and do bad things. All we wanted to do was use the toilets and buy 3 cans of coke from the bar. It is understandable that laws are in place for ID and that but perhaps a bit more friendly approach would be nice.

Large beer garden/smokers area and bands playing with reasonable drink prices and friendly staff. Real good.

Different but in a group, it was fun. The temp inside was ridicously way too hot.

One of the most open and accepting venues in town, the Hamo is known for being the haunt of fringe society, a place where you can be who you really are without judgement.

Best steak I've had for ages and the Hamo Bowl is superb. Menu could be more varied. If you want to watch sport on the big screen this is the place.

Had a few beers out the back great vibe, VB tasted like lines were freshly clean. Very easy to drink and enjoy the afternoon
