Rating is only good because of all the other times I've been have been great.

All I can say about it is the first room that we got the spa didn't work so we had to pack everything up and they got us another room which was way better king size bed biggest spa big TV But we lost over an hour packing everything up to move four doors down And then unpack again, but the service a big thank you to James the young bloke he was friendly smiling happy go lucky looked after us very well At the bar... all in all we enjoyed our stay at the old Mill and the room was great. The second room only disappointing part was the time we wasted having to move and un back again and probably won't be reimbursed for.

I don\'t often write Google reviews, but this one is well deserved, maybe pull up a chair..

I recently stopped in for a coffee at the Hahndorf Old Mill hotel and was genuinely impressed. The coffee was excellent, but what stood out just as much was the friendly, welcoming and helpful service. I was quick to let the manager know, who explained the hotel is under new ownership. He asked if I\'d consider leaving a 5-star Google review. I thought that was very resourceful and a sign that they\'re genuinely focused on positive growth by encouraging honest customer feedback. I was also a little humbled by him approaching me.

Being a bit of a regular around town, I\'ve been hearing more and more positive comments about this hotel. Many people have been praising the quality of the meals, and I\'ve heard they now have world-class, conscientious chefs in the kitchen.

If the coffee and service are anything to go by, they\'re heading in a fantastic direction. Wishing the new management every success, I look forward to coming back and trying the food for myself.

TLDR: Stay somewhere else!

Our family\'s stay at Hahndorf Old Mill hotel in early June was honestly one of the worst accommodation experiences we\'ve had.

The problems started before we\'d even settled in. My brother\'s bathroom hadn\'t been cleaned properly and still had used, wet towels left behind by the previous guests. They weren\'t asking for much, just for the dirty towels to be removed and replaced with clean ones. Instead, they were told that because housekeeping was outsourced to a third-party cleaning company, the hotel couldn\'t simply replace the towels and they would need to move rooms instead. That response was baffling.

My uncle\'s room hadn\'t even been vacuumed, and when he raised it with staff he was told he\'d have to wait until the next day for the cleaners rather than having the room cleaned properly that day.

My parents\' heater didn\'t work, forcing them to move rooms as well.

After all these issues, our family friends arrived the following day. We specifically asked the front desk to make sure they were given a good room after everything our family had already experienced. Unfortunately, even that didn\'t happen. Their room had a leaking ceiling and they also had to move rooms.

Compared to everyone else, I initially thought we\'d been lucky. Unfortunately, our room had a strong damp, musty smell as soon as we walked in, like it had been affected by moisture or mould for a long time. The carpet was partly dirty, there was black mould on the bathroom ceiling, and during the night I woke up to a cockroach crawling in my armpit. It was absolutely disgusting and made it impossible to feel comfortable for the rest of the stay.

When almost every room booked by the same family has a different serious cleanliness or maintenance issue, it\'s no longer bad luck. It points to a systemic problem with housekeeping, maintenance and quality control. Dirty rooms, mould, broken heating, leaking ceilings, insects, and an inability to resolve simple housekeeping issues on the spot are simply not acceptable for any accommodation.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but people deserve to know what they may be walking into. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend staying at Hahndorf Old Mill hotel.

The best part of our stay here was how the staff here were so kind and helpful. The service was top notch and a great price for the location and heritage aspects. We booked last minute, mid-week in Feb so there were still rooms available. The spa bath in our first room didn't turn on so they gave us an alternative room upgrade that was available! The upstairs room we got first had a queen bed had a lovely outlook to the street and beautiful heritage aspects with modern upgrades, including a little dining table, kettle and small fridge and TV we could watch from bed. It had a spacious bathroom with spa bath and shower that was very clean. The new room was in a lovely "chalet" area with external heritage still maintained. After crossing a little bridge where I assume a creek would run in rainier seasons, there was a secluded tree/round about area, with a couple of ageing antique wagons gathering rust and wearing down from the weather, and the units in the little chalets around it. Inside, was a bit more modern, had enough beds for a family of 4, with a kitchenette with a couple more appliances including a small fridge/freezer too. There was a shower in the spa bath (not seperate) which was fine for us, and spa bath was a little bigger and so relaxing with the jets worked very well. We did notice the bath might need a little bit of re-caulking and we're a bit nervous about getting water in the gaps, but once the bath was full, we were able to relax and enjoy before retiring to the very comfortable beds. There was plenty of parking, free for guests, which was great as it allowed us to explore the town more after check out.
