The German Arms Hotel in the beautiful Hills down of Hahndorf is an iconic corner location that begs you to come in and savour some traditional German food. In my instance, it had to be washed down with a wonderful Bavarian beer!

I've never been a big fan of German sausages, in the same way that I have never really liked the taste of Brazilian Salsicce, South African Boerewors, or even American hotdogs. But never say never, I always try things. Everything in moderation is my motto.

We ordered the Chef's Selection of Gourmet Wursts for the wife and son to share. This consisted of traditional Bratwurst, Cheese Kransky and Bockwurst sausages, with mash, sauerkraut, German mustards and gravy. It was actually pretty good, despite my propensity to dodge wursts in general.

We sat by a log fiire on a high top table and that was perfect for a cold crisp day. And I couldn't help myself ordering a glass stein of local Bavarian brew from the bar opposite. That slipped down a treat!

My only regret was not trying a German Schnitzel. I love them! But I walked away happy. Great comforting pub feel, excellent friendly staff and about the best place to savour the local Adelaide Hills charm and culture in Hahndorf.

The better evening option in town from my experience trying a few places, more than once. Dinner was fabulous the atmosphere was so cozy (it's bigger in the back, it deceives you from the front street view). Roast pork was fabulous and veggies perfectly cooked. Schnitzel was good my hubby said, the sauce was a bit different than he was used to but still good. Kids were happy with their kids sized bowl of chips (they had snacked in late afternoon, so weren't up for a meal). Seating had many family/group sized table options which was great. Toilets were clean and inside the establishment Wish I could've tried dessert, the cheesecake looked divine. Will come back next time we're in town.

Service was excellent, extremely attentive. Fabulous atmosphere. Angus did a great job of service... Saw I had used a knife for my pretzel and brought me a new one immediately without asking.

Went there for a weekday lunch,the platter is delicious with a generous portion - we couldn't finish it among three of us. The staff was friendly and polite, and the music had a German touch.
The very only downside was the vegan schnitzel, which was a bit too oily and greasy. Although it had a great taste, the excessive oil made it uncomfortable to continue eating. A slight improvement in this is needed I think?
Oh and the beer is great too!

We came on a busy Sunday. I'd prefer to order at the counter or with a QR code, it was table service but not many waiters meaning you have to find one and flag them down. We were hoping for style and ambience but were seated in the room to the side which has no character and we couldn't hear the live music.

The beers were great and so was the sausage plate. What let the food down was the pork hock, we paid $9 extra for the crispy one but it was dry all the way through and a lot of the meat was tough. It tasted like it had been reheated.

Took public transport from Adelaide down to Hahndorf for a mini day trip, firstly the bus from Adelaide was quick and easy and only cost $2.4. Hahndorf itself is well worth a visit but the standout of the street had to be the German arms hotel. We shared the platter and had a few large German beers. The restaurant setting and styling are perfect and all the staff very friendly.

We came as a large group and the service was efficient and friendly! Portion sizes are huge; glad we went for the steak, which was nicely cooked on the grill. Oysters Kilpatrick weren't KP, but tasty all the same.
We took dessert away and it was a bit old.

A well deserved reputation. We took a while to decide what to order. The lady that was waiting on our table was helpful and patient. Food was excellent. No complaints.

We had the German grazing platter, German Arms Platter and chef's selection of gourmet wurst for 4 adults and 2 children. It was more than enough. Favourites were the pumpkin dip from the grazing platter, mashed potatoes amd smoked kassler pork!

We were initially headed to Haus but decided on German Arms as it looked more traditional German look to the building and we are glad we did. Food was splendid! Decor was clean and cosy.

We had the roasted pork hog and sausage and toast. Food was ok just a bit lacking in flavour. We loved the wood log fire.

We shared the Pork Knuckle platter between 2. Very tasty and huge meal, we couldn't finish it all and took the left over with us in a takeaway container. We also shared a pecan white chocolate tart. Drank 500ml German beer and a shiraz. Cost was $110 total.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Great place to go for a meal when visiting Hahndorf.

What an incredible experience, from start to finish!! Friendly staff, delicious food & drinks, at very reasonable prices & such a great vibe! Wish we had the opportunity to visit here regularly, only prob is we're from Melb & were spending the long weekend in Adelaide & surrounds. Very impressed on all levels, especially given how big the place is and how many patrons were there for lunch at the same time, & yet we were served our drinks within moments of ordering!!! The food was not too far behind either! Seem less experience...& we will definitely be back next time we are in Adelaide! Thank you for a very welcoming, delicious & memorable lunch 😊 Being Polish the food brought back memories of my Mum's home cooking 🥰

I have just had another meal here, taken care of by the super lovely & amazing service of Violet!!! She is a total credit to the service team & an absolutely fantastic & friendly person. It's cold in the Adelaide Hills in winter so when you walk in and there's multiple fires going and a menu full of comfort food you know you're going to be satisfied. Great staff. Food was delicious. We went back for another pretzel.

This is a great German restaurant!! We ordered the Chicken Schnitzel, the slow-roasted Pork Hock and the 2 pretzels. About five minutes after ordering, the food arrived promptly on the table. The schnitzel was tender, moist, large-portioned and flavoursome, not dry at all. We all appreciated the yummy crunchy chicken-salt drenched chips that accompanied the schnitzel! The pork hock was similarly fall-off-the bone juicy and scrumptious. It has excellent ambience, good service and efficient as well. It was great to have such a lovely warm meal by the fireplace after a walking in from the cold air. We left feeling like we were in Germany.

Very friendly accommodating staff, great efficient service, able to answer our requests to cater for our child. Atmosphere was warm and inviting, homely and open furnishings with fireplaces but big windows to see outside as well. Toilets close by, kids colouring and kids meals. Food was sensational!! Servings were super generous and reasonably priced, incredible value for money. Really hard to find a good roast anywhere in Adelaide, the Roast Pork special was out of this world! The Sausage Platter was exceptional quality as well. Chefs did an outstanding job putting so many meals together and ready all at the same time, so quickly! Definitely will come back to try the rest of the menu.

The food was delicious and everything you expect it to be. Make sure you're hungry as it is a big meal and worth the money. The customer service was definitely lacking though. Even when we were leaving I said thank you to the staff and just got stared at. Will definitely eat here again, just hope to get the staff on a happier day.

Nice place to have a simple lunch at. Had the chef's selection of gourmet wurst and chicken schnitzel. The sausages were nice, felt like they could offer one more variety of sausage for the price. The schnitzel was tasty but a little denser than expected.

A group of six of us went on a Thursday night. It is not the first time we had been at this pub. Booking on-line was easy. Parking access was excellent and staff were friendly and quickly showed us to our table upon arrival. Atmosphere and setting was great. Thursday night is schnitzel specials night: Choice of schnitzel, toppings and three beer specials. Four of our group ordered either beef or chicken schnitzel with a variety of toppings. One person ordered fish and chips and one the cabbage rolls. All of the schnitzels, chips and salads provided ample serves. All who ordered these were completely satisfied. Fish and chips were also tasty and well cooked. The cabbage rolls were disappointing. Certainly not worth $24.90! Two very small rolls on a thin bed of mashed potato with a dollop of sauerkraut and tomato sauce. Stick to ordering the schnitzels!

Had the giant sausage and the soup special. The sausage sure was giant 😂 managed to finish it though! The sauerkraut and pickles on top were really nice.

The soup had a nice flavour, with big chunks of vegetables and meat. An all-round tasty lunch.

Shared a lovely lunch on father's day with our family. Food was plentiful and mostly delicious (hamburger patty was a bit dense and not as juicy as we would have liked) and we got a table at the last minute right by the fire. The service walking in was lovely, with Lewis finding us a table quickly. The staff at the bar were clearly waiting for the 'father's day' onslaught, with most of the restaurant booked out. However, they were still pleasant and the food came quickly.

Fantastic meal sitting on sheltered upper balcony nice and warm and friendly. Top ever so helpful staff. Great atmosphere sitting back and watching the world go by with a great glass of red. I had roasted knuckle with tons of tasty veg, and Pete had a gorgeous schnitzel. What a wonderful way to spend father's day finished with a walk in the Mt.Lofty botanical gardens. Scenic drive there via the back roads and back by Norton Summit. Great Sunday outing before mass at 5.30 pm. You can't beat a nice walk along the main road browsing through the shops after your meal.

So warming. So friendly. Had a great laugh with a number of staff, had a lovely lunch on a beautiful day, and so grateful we could sit outside with our dog. We ordered everything the waitress recommended and I am so glad we did. It was perfect! Pork Belly in a beautiful sticky glaze and the Pork Jaegerschnitzel. Plenty of beer choices - plenty of drink choices. Highly highly recommend. Such a large facility too, many seats to choose from. It's all completely beautiful inside and out.

Great selection of food to try outside of the normal pub food with a winter warming German touch. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. Service was friendly and made us feel welcome from booking a table throughout. Will return when in Hahndorf.

Came here in 2013 for a birthday. Did it again in 2021. Some things change. War, war never changes. Portions as just as massive as ever, I was sceptical of the mash that comes with everything however it was fantastic! Pork chop. Hot dog. Pork schnitzel. That is the best in form.

Great atmosphere, food was delicious. Plenty of options from German to pub classics. We had an autumn visit and the outdoor seating allows you to see the colours and leaves of the trees as well as move inside to the many open fireplaces.

Recommended if you are craving a feast of traditional German food. Generous serves. Friendly service. Amazing beer served icy cold. Try the trio of wurst served with mash potatoes, sauerkraut, mustard and gravy. Yum. Don't know why they cover it in green leafy stuff though but that's easy to get rid of.

Really good experience here tonight for dinner with my partner. We rocked up without a booking highly doubtful we'd get a table on short notice - they made room for us, the service was super quick and friendly. We had the vegan burger with some beers and the burgers were incredible. Never had a vegan burger quite like this one before. Will be back again soon!

This is a must for dinner when staying in town. The girls who served us were great and quickly made room for us. Many places don't do beef schnitzels, or use cheap cuts that are tough. Not here! I enjoyed mine, and my wife loved her Thai soup too.

Great lunch spot. Staff friendly. Food good, had food envy with the sausage my husband enjoyed. Great flavor, too much bread for me though. Myself and daughter had the Barra, lovely. Pleased that were kind enough to serve my 5 yr old grandson first, and it came with salad. Well done.
