Unacceptable. This place ACTIVELY advertises and posts for people to come in and bring their dogs for 'dogs on the deck' - to even win a prize! Yet the small deck that dog owners are relegated to gets completely SMASHED with the blazing afternoon sun, COMPLETELY, until the sun sets. There is not a single tiny bit of shade on that deck. Every single person who was there during the time we were there had to get up and move OR leave entirely if they had a dog, because the heat of the sun was so unbearable. We would have just left too if we hadn't ordered food right before the sun came out. Asked if there was anywhere else to sit with a dog: no. It was truly torturous & unbearable to sit there and just BURN. Painfully eating our meal as fast as possible and leave.
This is the experience they're INVITING us in to have?? It's just SO insulting to have to sit there and swelter and literally suffer, unable to move anywhere else because we have a dog, after being welcomed in through DIRECT advertising from this very business. Not just animal cruelty but human as well.
How about the GUNYAH HOTEL use the MONEY they make from the dog owners they ACTIVELY MARKET TO and invest in some SHADE! Shade sails, umbrellas, ANYTHING, and actually HOST the patrons supporting your business.
Won't be another cent of mine though. Ever.
Absolutely appalling. Not good enough.

Lunch time visit for 2 of us. We both ordered a lunch special and each meal was tasty and generous. Prices good, location fantastic, staff friendly. We hadn't been for a long time but decided we would be back soon.

Had lunch with some friends here today, lunch was perfect, meals were good, hot and fast.
I wanted mention a staff member Rachael, awesome staff member, she went above and beyond to help out us out with something that had nothing to do with the hotel but was time critical.
We will be back.

Ate in the restaurant for the 1st time. Wanted oysters but was told they had run out and it was only 7pm, they might look to adjusting the amount they order especially since it's holiday time.
Wait time for the food was ridiculous and then after waiting for a very long time 3 of our party were told that they couldn't make the salads as they had run out of certain things.
The food finally came out but only a couple of dishes at a time while others were still kept waiting for their meal for a considerably long time.
I must say what l ordered was delicious and l thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
Get the food out a lot faster and don't run out of food early and you will make your customers a lot happier.

View was nice over lake. Staff seemed friendly. Food portions were good and most of our group loved their meals. Couple were undercooked for how we ordered our steaks but still edible

Have only been to this place to eat and it was especially busy being fathers day. Felt the menu could offer more options but food overall was very tasty. Service was very slow even for a busy Sunday. Drinks were way over priced as is everywhere, but the view certainly makes up for it.

Pretty good food/pub feed. The beef pie was REALLY GOOD. The fries were better than the avarage ones from pubs. The chicken parmi wasn't the best, it was decent. Quite along wait for the food too.

If Cheers was a place in real life, Gunyah would be it. The staff make you feel like a local even if it's your first time there. The food is hot and delicious and the beers are nice and cold. The rooms are clean, affordable, and a short walk gives great views of the water. We will definitely be back!

A nice restaurant with some good options on the menu. Food arrived pretty quickly, and was enjoyable to eat. Staff were a bit hit-or-miss, seemed like an inconvenience that we were there. Parking was challenging.

Nice pub which was located next door to our accommodation. Very friendly staff and locals which added a nice family feel to the pub. Bonus that it's pooch friendly? as its very hard to find places in evening which allow dogs so that was nice. Good portions of food and good meals. Would definitely recommend ?

We met friends for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Booking our table online was easy and we all enjoyed our food. The eton mess for dessert was huge, plenty for two.

Stayed overnight and dinner at bistro. Polite and helpful staff, clean and comfortable accommodation. Bistro dinning area clean, tidy and well layed out . Good selection of meals on menu at reasonable prices. We were very impressed with the seafood platter for two. Whilst dining we observed various other meals all of which were of generous serving looking very tasty. Thank you for an enjoyable stay Gunyah Hotel.

Pretty good casual hotel, handy on the Pacific Highway, with lovely lake views from certain aspects.
Unfortunately, cigarette smoke stench has commonly permeated various areas for many years- quite a turn-off.
Good beer selection, bar service usually pretty good. Sports TVs ok in some areas but need to have more in others.
Bistro & meals usually reliably good, not cheap, but some good value options, usually very good service, nice-looking open kitchen, thankfully main dining areas usually free of cigarette smoke, & offer great lake views.
Table online meal & drinks ordering a good idea, but doesn't offer a popular choice in the special of the day. Also the electronic payment surcharge isn't as clear as it should be during menu selection. The recent Wed night $20 Pork special meal was very tasty, the cheesy garlic bread was also tasty but expensive.
Well worth some repeat visits.

Arrived for 1pm lunch. Ordered 1.30 said 1hr wait. OK 2.45 ??? Arrived 3.05. Highly recommend NOT having bugs in pastry. Lamb bowl 3/5 Don't mind waiting but when other tables arrive after you and served before you that's annoying especially when 2 children out of 7 were getting restless. Wouldn't rate the service highly either. Won't rush back.

Came here with a large group for a birthday dinner and the staff were great in getting the tables organised so I could decorate them for the occasion. Nothing was a bother. The food was delicious too. It was a Wed night and they had trivia on ( which would have been good if they informed me at the time of booking), but we enjoyed it anyway. Great, elevated view of the lake.

Limited menu and quite hikey for a hotel. Staff were very pleasant and service of meal from ordering to plated to table excellent. Large glass of house wine $13.20 which I thought very pricey for a hotel when I only pay $9 at our local Tavern

Excellent accommodation. We were in room 6, it was really quiet and had a view of the marina. The pub downstairs was great, nice food and great service. Great place to stop on the way through.

The service was quick no long wait time for seating or food service.
There are eight streamlined rooms, some with Lake views and are resalable priced.
The Gunyah Hotel has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with helpful, efficient and professional staff.

Such a lovely place to dine with fantastic views over Lake Macquarie. The food was reasonably priced and a good variety of tasty dishes. The staff were very efficient and helpful when ordering and delivering our food. Highly recommend the Gunyah Hotel.

Went on 13/6 for lunch for my birthday with friends because the last time I was there the steak and chats were amazing! On this occasion though it was very disappointing, the chats weren't smashed and 3 of us ordered the scotch fillet steak ($38 plus sauces) medium rare, they all came out at medium to well at best, parts of the steak were more well done! I think if you are going to charge these prices you have to be able to cook the steak properly!

Great to drop in for snack if you don't want to sit in restaurant for a larger meal. Hubby and I didn't have a lot of time for lunch. Called in and sat at a small table with comfy chairs near the bar. Not many around at the time and music was just a bit too loud. Asked if the music could be turned down and it was no problem. Sports show on TV and the manager obliged and put the sound up so we could eat and catch up on our team news etc. All in all a great experience during a rushed day. Beautiful food, reasonable price and very welcoming service.

What a great surprise. We needed a late lunch after several hours at Belmont Hospital and headed for the Gunyah Hotel. Next great decision was the seafood bouillabaisse, OMG fabulous, do yourself a favour it's worth every dollar they're asking, DELICIOUS!!!! Thank you Chef ??'-

Meals are always yummy and can't go past the$15 lunch menu with a great variety. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Love, love, love this place.

Food good good staff nice place but won't buy tickets it meat trays anymore spent $20 and they only had three meat trays to give away

Female singer was ridiculously loud and overpowering...even sitting outside away from her...

We stayed in one of the rooms for a few nights and found the accommodation to be clean, spacious and good value. The service at check-in for efficient and the bar and restaurant staff friendly. Convenient location less than 500m to Belmont Shopping Centre.

Been done up. First time I went food was top notch... second time paid $35 for barmaid bugs... don't waste your money. It was terrible. Staff beautiful though.

Lovely clean rooms with a very comfortable bed! Beautiful view of the lake from room 6 (photo is from the room window). Very well insulated rooms; couldn't hear the bar below at all.Breakfast was delicious.Staff were beyond helpful and very friendly.Would definitely stay again.

Four of us went there for lunch. It was excellent. Service was efficient and friendly. Food also very tasty. A really nice view topped it all off. We will certainly return.
