Handy location, nice surroundings and great facilities. The beer on tap was excellent, the food on offer was a good selection of pub food, and the service was friendly and efficient. Good value.

Friday afternoon late lunch - great menu, $15 specials too & serve lunch till 2:30pm which is a very pleasant surprise! Had the fish tacos - very nice with a little spicy kick. Staff were great. Pub immaculately clean and just beautiful to be in.

It's okay, got the cauliflower bites and it was just like.... half a head of cauliflower with pesto, it was supposed to Szechuan but whatever I guess
Gluten free pizza was actually really good.

Pub looked good, service was good, food was very average. I had lasagna which had been microwaved and was petrified at the edges but cool in the middle. My husband had the spaghetti bolognese which was also luke warm. Music bingo started up before we started our meal and was way too loud, sound system feedback was awful. We ate and ran.

A beautiful old pub that's being refurbished and has retained its original charm. The food is very tasty and the service quick and friendly. Dining area is simple yet cosy and modern.

Had a couple of meals over Easter weekend while visiting family. All the staff were lovely, the premises are modern and clean.
All the food was great and the chicken schnitzel was best ever. Seriously. I had vegetables instead of chips and salad and they were cooked perfectly.
Kudos also to bar staff, would have thought a lemon lime and bitters could be so good?

Great venue, relaxed atmosphere, nice range of beer and fully staffed. We had the chicken schnitzel with green saute vegetables and roasted chat potatoes, absolutely delicious, highly recommend. Probably the best CS I've ever eaten. Steak was tender and perfectly cooked, with crispy chips and a lovely side salad. Prices were very reasonable as well compared with other restaurants nearby

The decor is wonderful and the vibe was chill. The menu was absolutely delicious and well priced! We had an entrees and two mains and spend under $50.

My only criticism was the tinned beetroot in the pumpkin salad. It would have been so much better with fresh beetroot.

We ordered three meals for lunch to cater for two. Ordered from the table via QR code with table service, 15 minutes. The decor is middle of the road.
We ordered the Nepalese Dumplings with a peanut/tomato chutney. Serve of 6 was $16. Taste was great however the texture suggested they were not adequately steamed.
We also had the Salt and Pepper Squid. Generous serve of aioli and side salad. Texture of the squid was soft on the inside with good crumb. At $19 the portion size was a little under.
The Moroccan Pumpkin Salad was great. Quinoa, seeds and spinach leaves $14. Good serving size.
This meal was adequate, though I would not seek this out again as a venue of choice. This might be one of the last remaining pubs that serves lunch and has a good selection of tap beers in the east end which is probably why it survives.

It's nice to be back at the Great North Hotel Newcastle. The beer is still good and cold and still a great verity on tap. The menu has a good selection to choose from with great service.

I love this place I can't put my finger on it but this hotel has an ambience and a feel like no other ' absolutely nothing negative what so ever from the staff the patrons the crowd a mix of everything day of the week seems to be unleashed here on any given night smiles all round and a feel good vibe makes this place the number one hotel in Newcastle. Get the right night and you are hooked and gutted in the most beautiful way five stars*****

Me and my partner had our joint 30th at the great northern and it was amazing! The staff is super friendly. We dropped of the decorations in the morning and they decorated our private area beautifully for us. They even created menus in theme with Oktoberfest.
I would highly recommend this for a function.

Dropped in for dinner on a Monday night. A comfortable relaxed Monday vibe, having never been here before I poked around and found a cracking old school lounge with big couches and a pool table.

Barman recommended the steak sandwich so I sit back with a cold beer, eagerly awaiting my meal! TBC

We had our pre-wedding/rehearsal dinner at the GNH and it was great! The team set up an exclusive area for us beautifully, it felt really special. And they were happy to work with whatever we wanted. Overall a very easy, relaxing event. I loved the live music, the only down side was it was super loud making conversation very difficult.

Just want to thank the staff at The Great Northern Hotel for hosting our Newcastle Fringe Festival After Party on Sunday 21 March. The artists and organisers gathered together to celebrate a successful festival and present some awards. Maynard was there to spin some retro tunes and we all had a fun time. The staff were friendly and helpful and our event ran smoothly from start to finish. Thanks everyone!

Check in was easy. Food was fast and big portions. Friendly staff. If you want to go on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night get there early.

The fact that it costs $3 to add gravy on a schnitty is a crime. Also live music was a bit loud considering we sat a decent distance from it. Otherwise, decent pub. Just wouldn't be my first stop given the other places newy has to offer.
