The room was nice and I didn't hear much noise from the bar despite my stay being on a Friday evening. My main concern was that there was urine on the toilet seat and bathroom floor when I arrived, and the toilet paper was left disheveled so I don't know what happened there but I didn't find that very "Grand" at all.

Yesterday, my son had his christening gathering at The Grand after the service. The room was set up well and everything was in place. However, the food came out way too late and not in order as perviously discussed with management. The allocated staff on the day had no idea what was going on and were rude. It was disappointing considering the time I put in triple confirming things and the cost.

They cancelled our booking on the day we were supposed to be staying here, after we had already travelled to Newcastle. The staff made no attempt to inform me. The staff are very rude and lied to us.

Update: it's been days since the hotel cancelled on us and getting any refund is impossible. Highly recommend AVOIDING this hotel.

This place is good.
It's quiet, good service, comfy and clean.

Very very disappointed. After driving around block for 40mins trying to find a park I went in to be told quite rudely by staff that "if there's no parking on street there's a parking station YOU HAVE to pay for. IT STATES that on our web site" No it actually doesn't it states and I quote. "We don't offer off street parking but on street parking IS AVAILABLE. We ended up having to walk 8mins up hill lugging suitcases.

That unfortunately was the beginning. The mugs supplied were filthy there were no were no teaspoons.

There were men working just outside the window using power tools when we checked in at 3.00 and continued until at 8.00pm when I asked them how much longer they intended to be.

I could go on with more but I'll leave it there and was glad to check out early morning knowing it is definitely one place I would never recommend to anyone and never return myself.

I went to see a band here the other night and it was just great. It was quiet upstairs on a Tuesday night but all staff were helpful and showed me to where the band was playing downstairs. Awesome venue for music. So glad it's still going. Also, the food and drinks menu is really good for grazing whilst listening to cool music and hanging out with friends or solo.

Had lunch here today.
Steak sandwich and chicken Caesar wrap.
Both were amazing. Great value that's for sure.

We very much enjoyed our two night stay at The Grand Hotel. King bed was so comfortable, the room as well as the whole hotel is kept beautifully clean.
Service was so friendly and welcoming and the food from bistro really enjoyable.
Location was amazing, only a block or two walk to everything you need...shops, restaurants, harbour, beach

We have stayed overnight a couple of times in the past month for functions in town.
Rooms are spacious and clean, not the most up to date but more than acceptable for a overnight stay.
Check-in is easy and fast, late night access is available via secure entry.
Pub seems to be busy with a decent selection of draught and bottled beers.

We love the grand! The rooms are huge and well... Grand! The dinner menu at the pub downstairs was a 12/10, I think thats what impressed us the most, utterly well executed. And the underground bar was a perfect way to finish the night off. We didn't end up leaving the whole venue while we were there, we had everything we needed under the one roof. Highly recommend!

A hidden gem. We went for dinner for something casual, the service was top notch and I had the best steak I'd had in ages. Then, we were invited downstairs for a jazz night that felt like we were in the underground New York jazz scene that once was... not that I'd know.

Delightful and delicious lunch at The Grand. Started with a scotch egg which was perfectly cooked and not something you expect to find on a local pub menu. The house made pie and mash and the steak sandwich were pub grub gone above and beyond! Great selection of wines and excellent service topped off a fab experience. Will definitely be back!

Loved it!!! Vibe is great. Bistro/ pub on ground level. Food and drinks and staff exceptionally friendly. Room number one is old but large. Every day room service which a lot of establishment don't do!. Owner Lucas very affable and informative. The hotel is so nice you can hang there all day if you were lazy. Did lots of walking to the beach nearby!

This place absolutely spot on. Ive been here twice now. The place is a 5 min walk to Newcastle Beach. So its location is great. The rooms are spacious, with a good comfy bed, good shower, plenty of hot water and pressure. For pub rooms they are excellent. We had dinner down stairs, my steak was beautifully cooked, the bistro was fully booked but the bloke running the show squeezed myself and my young bloke in, nothing was a problem at any point. The bar was pumping with a slightly older crowd. The atmosphere was great and i enjoyed a cold crisp beer with my steak. For a weekend getaway in a great location, for a great price with second to none service. Go the Grand Hotel Newy. ??'?

I attended the Grand Hotel soft opening this weekend, the place was fantastic. Great service drinks well priced and the underground has recently undergone a refurbishment, turned into a awesome whisky bar. Definitely what Newcastle needs right now. I will be back to enjoy a pint soon

Very helpful staff. Large area. Location was great. Only a few minutes to the beach. A lot of stairs to our room. The owner took our bags up otherwise we would not have been able to take them up. If you are travelling light no problem.

Well located and reasonably priced. Quite clean and quiet despite being above a pub. The wifi did not work on my floor but was fine on the ground floor. The bed was super comfy and water pressure fantastic.

Beautiful hotel and lovely staff. The major drawback was that the room we were staying in (room 19) smelt very heavily of weed. My partner and I ended up sleeping in the car because the smell was so strong we couldn't bare it. We tried opening all the windows, turning on the fans and the air conditioning and it just did nothing. I'm also pregnant and we didn't feel comfortable staying in the room.

Good Atmosphere for social drinks with friends with indoor and outdoor areas. Tasty pub food with wide selection of beers, spirits and some wine. Accommodation available. Located in quiet end of Newcastle CBD, minutes walk from beach, and restaurants. We enjoyed afternoon drinks & hot snacks. Friendly staff, clean amenities.

Nice hotel. Need a better microwave which I have already reported. And maybe electricity blanket, and a shower cap as well.

The meals at Garrisons Bistro are nutritious as well as delicious. It's so nice to have a nutritionally balanced meal while travelling. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the bistro is very comfortable. All that in a great location. We'll be back.

Easy check in, comfortable room, great to stay in this modernised but traditional hotel. The stair case is impressive, characterful and a nice change from the slow and stuffy lifts at larger places.

Nice people, nice place, food was shocking.. wanted veggie pasta as it said on menu that veggie options are available but it had bacon already mixed in.. so went for the fish and chips which was thick soggy batter, chips weren't made fresh, tasted like they'd sat since the lunch and re fried. Maybe we got the wrong chef on the day '

Very clean and tidy. Nice and quiet. Pub closed Sat lunch and all Sunday but made it more of a quiet stay. Found meals elsewhere. Great location close to beach, jetty and town.

Gee, this is a lovely place to stay in Newcastle. Grand old pub with updated rooms. (be nice to have the old sash windows fixed - I propped ours open with the iron :) Otherwise all good. Close to the beach and east end cafes. Staff couldn't have been nicer.

Excellent! Extensive $15 menu for lunch and dinner (daily pasta and curry specials also $15) - something for everyone - and the staff were lovely. I had grilled barramundi with a lemon butter sauce, served with chips and an impressive, dressed salad. Fish portion was large, very well cooked and the sauce was just the right finishing touch. Very tasty Desserts, breads, specials etc also on the menu. We will definitely be going back.

Great place to have a beer with the guys after work. Good food at reasonable prices if you are hungry.
