It started out as a really lovely day out with family, playing golf for the first time and having a great time with family... but when we had finished, we walked away feeling embarrassed and unwelcome by the staff. I absolutely cannot recommend this course, especially for beginners.
We booked for a 2pm time-slot with 4-people (3 beginners, 1 enthusiast) and we also booked 2 golf carts, as one of our members had a bad knee and can't walk for extended periods of time.
When we made the decision to try our hand at playing golf at Gordon Golf Club, we were aware that we were beginners at golf and when we started the course, we were also hyper-aware (and ashamed) of the fact that we were taking longer-than-average to complete the course. Despite this, we felt supported by the other golfers who were also playing on the course, who offered nothing but words of support and advice as we were playing. We felt OK and welcome to be there by the other customers. The same cannot be said for the staff member on duty...
The (sole) staff member on duty took the time out of his day to leave his post at the front desk and drive around the 18-courses to find us so he could criticize and chastise us IN-PERSON for taking too long to do the course and for "hogging" the 2 golf carts we had booked DESPITE having our phone number, with which he could have most certainly used to contact us well before our allotted time with the golf carts had expired (there was strong cell service and the phone we had with us was fully charged and set to loud).
He was condescending, rude and unfriendly, and he shook our desire to play golf in the future. Again... we were hyper-aware of our status as beginners and we really didn't want to cause any trouble for the other golfers or the staff. But that's how this staff member made us feel: like we were pests. We lost track of time and had we been made aware of the need to give back the golf carts ASAP, we would've done so at the drop of a hat.
At the end of the day, all we wanted was to try our hand at something we had never done before, and have a good day out as a family, especially after weeks and weeks of being afraid to go out due to the Covid crisis. That didn't happen at Gordon Golf Club.
Don't go here.
