This has a good neighborhood vibe. We were there for the comedy night & it offers up a broad range of comics. Love Tommy Dean. The food was good if not great. Wood definitely come back.

We love this place. Pizzas are tasty and abundant. Schnitzel and parmi are the best in the area, however what I really loved was the grilled octopus. You can also find a good variety of beers as expected.

I've been going to this pub for over 20 years, I loved it so much, so unique and full of character and history. Until about a year ago I went in and was shocked to see all the paraphernalia gone, I was assured it would be put back as soon as the renovation work was complete. I visited again last week and it's like a different pub, stripped of all its charm and character, has all the atmosphere of an RSL now. It's so sad to see what was once a unique and special pub looking so sterile, even the famous cockatoo was locked up in a cage. Staff are great food is fine, if I could give zero stars for atmosphere I would. Devastated

Such a great pub. The chips might be the best in Australia... soooo good! The staff are very friendly. I'll have to take photos of the food next time because we ate too quickly. Also, our pooch was welcome, which is just perfect ??'?

Hermit Crab races were such a unique and funny way to spend a Thursday night! Great atmosphere and the staff were super friendly.

Not sure what happened... went in on Sat on the strength of reviews and photos and it was completely dead. Pictures and paraphenalia all gone, white washed walls, sad-looking caged cockatoo, no character or atmosphere whatsoever

Of the many friendly, warm, and fun inner west pubs, this is the friendliest, warmest, and funnest. The staff are always incredible, the food tastes good, and the vibes are exactly what you need when you need it.

In the true tradition of Sydney pubs, there is an absolutely despicable man who lives next door to this 150 year-old pub and complains about anybody seeming to enjoy themselves.

So please, if you visit this lovely establishment, be sure to find your own unique way to irritate this fun-sponge of a curmudgeon, and of course, tip your bar staff.

Thought we would try something different. Great pub style meals. Servings were generous, and food was lovely.

First time here for a while and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the outside space. The food was very good. Fantastic Chicken Parmigiana and a really great beer selection too. Will be back again and much sooner.

Everybody should visit this pub . It is so much fun. A live duo playing Irish jigs on violin had everybody dancing. A 50th birthday upstairs was fun and games.

They have lost the quirkiness and atmosphere of the pub. Menu and bistro not the same either and the bistro is very cramped with very average food. Looks like new people have taken over. Was extremely empty for a Sunday afternoon compared to previous visits before it changed. Probably won't be back given excellent choices of pubs in Sydney

Food had gone downhill. Had not been at the Friend in Hand for a couple of years and was incredibly disappointed with the latest experience. Always loved the vibe, was reasonably priced for drinks and meals.

Ordered a veal Parma, was given a schnitzel which they fixed up. When the Parma arrived, I was disappointed to find they now use processed burger cheese and tomato sauce (no ham). Tasted absolutely disgusting, and when I questioned the use of the cheese I was told that's what they now use.

Worst Parma I've had, won't be eating here again.

Retro pub really good for meeting friends. Has lots of character. Has some really hearty and great tasting and well priced meals. All meals basically range from $15 to $20 and are large, fresh and made to order. Burgers, schnitzels, lasagna, meatballs, amazing shoe string fries, etc. Weeknight specials as well. Georgie the cockatoo who lives in the pub is a real hoot. Well worth visiting this Glebe gem.

Pretty reasonable ... Although, asked for medium, reviewed rare. Went to ask the chef to cook it longer, bit no-one was in the kitchen ... Left it. Waste of good money and a good steak

First visit since change of management. Just as excellent as always. Been coming over past 15 years. Service 110% beer prices 100% atmosphere and ambience 110%. One of Sydney's best secrets. Highly recommend.

The security guard is the most rude, inhospitable and unpleasant person to work in this establishment. Its a shame to see the heart of Glebe be tarnished by someone simply eager to use COVID guidelines as an excuse to be a dictator. Do better.

New restaurant called Fork In Hand. Great food good value
Sunday evening raffle is an experience with all proceeds going to local Glebe Public School. Live band and plenty of characters.
