After having a silver service meal around the corner at Stamps Restaurant for our 21st wedding anniversary, we popped in to the Ed grab a quick night cap as our Uber was 20 mins away.
We went into the front bar and we noticed that there was some sort of drama that had just settled down.
My husband stayed at a table and was answering a text on his phone. I went to the bar and asked for a whisky. He told me that the bar was closed. I said it was only 10pm, but he insisted that the bar was closed. I asked if the other bar was open and he wouldn't answer. I insisted and he said yes.
We went to the other bar. The staff member behind this bar was lovely. Then he looked up and excused himself saying he would be right back.
When he came back he said he couldn't serve me or my husband. I asked him why and he said that the manager told him not to serve us. I asked if he thought we were intoxicated. He said no.
Basically the manager had a bad night and he took it out on us.
We were not drunk. We were dressed for silver service dinner on a very special occasion.
We've been going to the Edinburgh Hotel since we were 18 so it was completely shocking to us

Three of us dined for lunch at the Edinburgh Hotel on the 12th of September. One of us had the kangaroo and myself and another friend had the chicken schnitzel. To be honest we were disappointed with the chicken schnitzel. No longer is the hotel appearing to make their own but buying in ready made portion controlled schnitzel that appears just to be cooked on a grill rather than deep fried. The inevitable little salad was ok but edible as was the chips. A bit disappointing that the hotel is choosing to cheapen down one of the meals that is probably ordered 60% of the time. I think we would rather prefer a pub that makes its own schnitzels rather than buying in portion controlled pre-crumbed ones. You can easily tell from the images that these schnitzels are not cooked in the conventional way and are a bit too neat and well crumbed to be done in house. Very disappointing. Shared entrees of garlic bread and dips & warmed naan bread were fine. If we go back anytime soon, we definitely won't be ordering the schnitzels. We prefer something a bit more rustic rather than made in a factory.

I have attended several functions here and the food and service is always great. We had a party of 15 last week and all food came out at once and everybody was happy. Definitely recommend the beef fillet! Burgers looked great too!

Beautiful place at the footstep of the hills.

Great location, while it's an old building they've done plenty of upgrades.
Outside is excellent all year round with lots of space.

The front bar is still old and partially original which makes it cosy as well.

Plenty of wine range and beers on tap.
Lots of bars as well

Service is excellent and the food was nice on the night I ate there.
