Sunday afternoon 7th January, the female staff member behind the bar couldn't have been more unpleasant if she tried.
I'd suggest hiring staff that at least pretend that want to be there or can crack a smile. I'll never return because of her.

This is what I'd call a Rock Pub. It has the classic dindgy feel and scrappy appeal of what a Rock Pub should look and feel like. Drinks there aren't cheap. A schooner of VB, be prepared to pay $10, which for VB is a crime ?....but, it is what it is. There's a chill out area as walk around the back with a pool table or two. It's a cool little place to watch a Rock live band..

Popped in for a beer on a quiet Sunday afternoon 3/12/23. Throughout my interaction with the bar staff I was not once acknowledged. Genuinely felt as if I was bothering the staff as they didn't greet me or speak to me once whilst I was ordering. Other locals have said the same thing about this pub. Won't return any time soon.

One of the best live rock music venues for local talent in all of Sydney. Great staff, darkly awesome atmosphere, and they have Brookvale Union on tap.

Good vibes good drinks. Point of advice though: the pizza wasn't burnt but tasted like it had been cooked in treated pine. Super chemical taste to the bottom of the pizza. Either the oven needs a clean or you need to ensure you are using food grade wood.

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the duke on a night where they were hosting live band karaoke and i don't think I've ever had so much fun at a karaoke event before! It's really next-level how a live band effects the audience
The atmosphere was insane and i'll be back every two weeks until they get sick of hearing me sing

The Duke is hands down the best pub for pre-drinks before gigs at the Enmore! The outstanding customer service, coupled with the vibrant atmosphere, makes it the perfect spot to kickstart a night of music. Cheers to an unforgettable time!

The Duke is wickedly cool! Dark, mysterious, edgy - all the necessary things needed for a fortnightly Hard Rock Karaoke night!! Staff are super lovely, the band is fab, the vibe is on point!

Me and my friend were refused service by one of the female bartenders here after our third beer for no reason. We weren't drunk and were just enjoying ourselves playing pool and perfectly respectful. I asked if there was a reason and if we had done something wrong and she replied no but she was making sure it didn't get to that point.

We left quietly but the whole experience was actually very offensive and completely unjustified. I'm a local and wont be coming back here again

This a great place. Sydney has lost most of its live music scene especially the pubs where you can discover new bands.
Its a mixed, accepting crowd.
Reasonably priced beer. Friendly staff.

The Duke is the most hectic awesome place in the inner west! Staff are absolutely crazy good giving a Frankie's 2.0 vibe for all those lovers who lost a prime spot. The live music is everything, the energy is so good. Couldn't recommend this place more and if you're a rock/metal head look no further this place has it all! And the pizza is perfecto, must stop in for a feed. You're guaranteed the best time every time!

Goodness, what an interesting experience! I / we are definitely not the Duke's natural customer, and stood out like the dog's ears even on a quiet weekend afternoon. Still, the barman was patient and the metal crowd were chill. Good beers, properly served. Bonus point because of strong positive comments from late-night-party family members who know the Duke in its most natural state.

The nanny state indeed. A big one at that. Sydney has become a city where the fun police is not the police itself but also some of the people inhabiting it.

This pub is actually unbelievable. As a bartender myself, I cannot believe the lack of urgency and complete stupidity and rudeness of the bar staff. It's seems like they just don't care at all. The atmosphere of the pub is great, a real classic joint. The band's can be a bit loud and overwhelming at times, but it's set up well so you can chill out in the pool room or in the courtyard if you're not into that. It's a real shame that the staff are totally clueless - even at times it's seems like they favour certain customers over other when serving (especially with attractive patrons). As a local of the area, it's hard to justify frequenting a place that is so infruiating, even with the great food and vibe.

Absolutely love this venue! Excellent food, great staff, even better live music and love that it's dog-friendly. The vibes are always on at the Duke, definitely worth popping into!

Walked in and was immediately met with the earsplitting sounds of four young men who called themselves The Wicked Wings. They were all dressed leather pants and accessories with coloured bandanas. Reminded me of that movie 'Cruising'.
I then progressed the bathroom and was struck by the intoxicating odour! Took quite a while to get a stall, though. Not sure what that's about. I then went to the bar and ordered a shot of whisky. It was burning my throat and I struggled to keep it down. The bartender told me to drink some pickle juice, which I thought was a euphemism. It sure did the trick! After 18 beers, the bouncer finally told me I needed to go home. I guess Sydney really is strict these days. Overall, a great experience. Maybe in 10 years when I'm not hungover anymore, I'll come in again!

Had a lovely meal with my husband here! Beers are fantastic, the staff directed us to some delicious schooners on tap.

Come for some dinner with my wife before a show at the Enmore.
There were a lot of beers I hadn't seen before but the staff directed me in the right direction. I've never tried a Sour before, definitely recommend!
We had the sausage pizza and the pop corn chicken. It's to die for.
Will be telling our friends who go to shows often to check The Duke out.

Potentially the dingiest, low quality pub I've ever been to. The food was passable, but very odd for this place. The waitress was a cow - plain and simple. This place also has just coke as a soft drink.

Had the best time here - would HIGHLY recommend the duke cheeseburger - it was like heaven on a plate!!

We also tried the boozy iced tea by recommendation of the bar staff and it was AMAZING. If you're looking for a place for dinner and drinks, this is the place, the staff, atmosphere and food are 10/10

Love this joint. Love it when there's live country music in the front bar. Love it when they're blasting Type O Negative. Vegan menu options are killer. Super friendly staff. Always a vibe.

New chefs here have come through with the goods and putting out the best food this side of town. Bone Marrow flatbread is a huge vibe and the grilled cheese with curry sauce is the quiet underdog of the menu

New menu is fabulous. Love the vibe and service. Wonderful chefs. Good music and beer. Pool table. Check it out if you want a wholesome night and good company.

Fire place, cold pints and a live band. Nice dark candle lit joint. Crowded but not frustrating to move around. Staff were quick and friendly. Bistro was being renovated at the time, but that's cool.

Great staff, good atmosphere. Enough drink choices to satisfy all plus a pool table and big buck hunter. Good times :)

If you are heading here for an intimate dinner, you are in the wrong location. This pub is loud and the epitome of rock & roll.

They have a great selection of beers, and the food menu is full of classic pub meals with a twist.

In winter they have a great fireplace.

So hard to find a good Rock/metal bar and here I found all my favorites being blasted over the speakers.

I do not have enough good words to speak about this place. The ambience was brilliant, but even better were the staff. They are very kind and cheerful and will make you feel at home. I absolutely loved the pint I had and the friendly atmosphere. Whoever the bartender was with the Motorhead t shirt - thanks mate! Hope to visit more often now! Great band too!

Unfortunately not great.Decided to go on a Monday night with 7 friends. I really wanted this place to be good as half of my friends are vegan and half not and this pub had a decent size menu for both.Pro:- great music- cool environment- nice people- friendly staff.Cons:- extremely loud music at the counter. Almost impossible to order. The speaker is literally facing the bar.- the online ordering system was down. Couldn't order from the table so we had to queue for 30min to get some drinks and food.- food was average. Cauliflowers were covered in Tabasco sauce. Couldn't eat them. Vegan burger was nothing special. Even the burgers at soul burger (fast food) were better.I would have probably loved this place in my 20' and if you are in your twenties you'll love it too. Perhaps I'm just old now.

Unreal! So glad this place is back open and it's better than ever! The staff are amazing, the drinks are great and the kitchen kills it! All for a good price too, can't recommend enough!
