A nice hotel that could be better. Service very hit and miss. We were told the staff would bring cocktails up to verandah for us then staff member who brought them up said we should have waited. Next round we bought we waited, had to ask for a tray, told by staff we could have one as long as we brought it back downstairs to them. Some staff nice, others a bit pompous. Great view from verandah at sunset but traffic is really noisy. Excellent espresso martinis though. Worth persevering with overall.

5 days holiday in NSW and the best meal by far was here. My friend and I ordered the swordfish, highly recommended. It was SO good. Service was good, food was excellent, beer was cold. What more could you want.
Gold in the gem that is Morpeth.

Netty. Was. Here. *Edit* Visited again today; new menu. I chose the Pasta and at $24 I could have bought ALL of the ingredients and made a whole batch at home for less. ???"

*Previous Post* Enjoyed a meal with the family. I had the T-Bone cooked medium rare and was satisfied.

It was nice and warm downstairs where we had few drinks, but it was freezing upstairs on the verandah when we went up to have our dinner and little heaters they had there weren't sufficient for such a large area. The food was varied, some of our party members had great meals but others had very ordinary, expensive meals. It all depended on the order.

Had food here today with my family and everything was great! It was quite busy being the first Saturday of the month so a bit of a wait on food was expected. However, the employee taking peoples orders at the POS, was openly and loudly BERATING the other female worker in front of the very large line of customers and seated patrons. She was swearing at her, and treating her as if she was dumb. People in line were completely taken aback by it, even thinking it was funny. But I saw the poor girl (young, blonde, hair in a braid) walk out at one stage and she had clearly been crying. How is that okay? It's one thing to be a bully behind doors but to display it in front of customers? Embarrassing her? I was absolutely disgusted. The girl at the front was also young, her only defining feature (as I didn't get her name) is that she was missing teeth. She clearly couldn't handle a bit of a rush, and was taking it out on the other girl. Ruined the whole experience.

I enjoyed my duck, but I couldn't stop pinching the chips off my friends... almost the perfect chip. Zero alcohol available, so extra marks from this recovering alcoholic.... Next time I hope there's a range to choose from. Lovely view from the porch too...

Enjoyed our lunch here, lovely outside seating area, good music and lovely quick service.

We had the prawn pasta & scotch fillet with chips. The pasta was full of flavour! Unfortunately the steak was a little overcooked and chared slightly too much. However yummy still.

It is six weeks since visiting The Commercial Hotel on a Tuesday evening. We were looking to dine and on this night The Commercial seemed to be the only option. We arrived before the bistro opened and were happy to note that the dining room neighbouring the main street was already full. We managed, on a cold night, a table near the iconic and welcoming fire place. The food and service were superb. My wife's steak cooked to perfection. My chicken kiev, the best I have tasted. Post meal, a craft brewed beer in a busy country pub, which oozed history and culture. Delightful!

Nice old pub but it's in desperate need of a makeover.... I'm guessing it being a heritage listed building (like most things in Morpeth) it would need to go through a lot of council channels first. Excellent food and bistro, It has a microbrewery and the beers they brew there they have on tap which they switch around when a new one is brewed. Only $16 for a tasting paddle too which is insanely cheap as Murrays brewery charges at least $30. The beer garden out the back is a nice spot to sit, plenty of covered tables and surrounded by plenty of nature and foliage. very relaxing place to go for a quiet beer but whatever you do don't sit out the front, the road noise will drive you insane. Being right on the intersection where the bridge is the traffic is constantly full on.

They were very happy to accommodate dietary needs of Vegan and Gluten free. I found this place down to earth and very friendly. The soft lighting adds to the rustic atmosphere. Morpeth shops are in the same street and the Morpeth bridge is across the street which makes this location a very nice experience.

Great place to visit for lunch being a first timer. Lunch was delicious although I expected two pork chops so was a little disappointed. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would go back but insist on two pork chops. Chips by the way were the best ever in the Hunter Valley. Definitely recommended. ??'???'???'?

Morpeth is a beautiful place to visit and have lunch, the scenery is fantastic, the food lovely. The Commercial Hotel was welcoming and had a wonderful feel good atmosphere on the top balcony overlooking the river and bridge, with personalised service to boot. Highly recommend.

Awesome place. Upstairs balcony has a stunning view. We had roasted pork belly with an apple, fennel, pine nut salad which was as good as any around the globe. Kylie was incredible - made the whole experience seemless and enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

Yep, nice country pub in touristy spot but manages to keep its prices reasonable.
Good pub food to fill the spot.
Has a selection of local craft beer, on tap, as well, to enjoy.
Indoor and outdoor seating to suit your whim for the weather.
Friendly staff.
One pub that will have you sorted for a day out in Morpeth, NSW.

Beautiful pub in a picturesque setting in Morpeth. Classic bistro meals with some daily specials, varied seating options too. A few beers made on site complete the package. Great spot for a lone drink, family get together or anything else along those lines

Dropped in for lunch on a Wednesday while visiting town. Lady at the bar was very welcoming and happy, beer was cold.Unfortunately the food was average. I had Brusetta which was on small toast rounds that were burnt at edges and topping dry and not seasoned. Next was the pork belly with fennel, Apple and pinenut salad. Advertised as salted crispy pork belly but was definitely not crispy...chewy skin was more accurate with the base of the pork a bit tough. The salad was fresh but as I got to the bottom it was swimming in dressing, way overdressed.Overall disappointing $38 meal

Beautiful town, delicious beers, perfectly cooked confit duck. The bartender explained their long history in brewing all natural beers and was happy for me to taste before buying. This extra bit of information was a lovely touch, and the Close Call pale ale was absolutely delicious. The duck was perfect in flavour; rich with a crisp skin and buttery potato gratin on the side, but don't expect large portions (get the regular pub favourites for big portion sizes if you're really hungry!)Only reason it's not 5 stars is the worn-out interior seating, zero criticism on food and house brewed beer.
