We came for dinner before a show at the Civic Theatre. Can I just say your staff are lovely. Had a phonecall through the day indicating how busy it was and suggesting we could come earlier if able. We arrived just after 5.00pm and the staff were so welcoming, helped us quickly place our order and food was brought out in a flash. Bar staff also friendly and were on for a chat about the wine my parents purchased. Huge thanks from us, it made our night how lovely everyone was!
Steak was cooked perfectly and my parents had the wings special which they enjoyed.

Stayed here for a night to see Rocky Horror, and the Clarendon was exactly what I was after. Really decent price, a great location, and a pretty solid room. It's not super polished, but it doesn't need to be for what it is. I'd definitely go again.

On Tuesday night I was staying there. I went downstairs to order food around 6.15pm. I was told the kitchen wasn't taken anymore orders.. I questioned that and she said there was a show on at The Civic. All I wanted was the Tuesday Pizza offering. I then ordered a drink and she refused to serve me as she didn't like my attitude!

Although i reason we visited Newcastle was not a pleasant one.
Everything about the Clarendon is amazing. Have visited with our 4 children and on our own.
From musical bingo to trivia.
Rooms clean and comfortable.
Staff friendly, accomodating and happy to have some banter.
Food was amazing.
If only there was parking on site.
But even then they validated our parking.
Oh... and the price was good too.

Great chicken schnitzel, had with chips, broccolini & green beans. Not over cooked, delicious! Food was prompt and service was friendly. They have Grifters stout on tap which is a bonus.

Well I had not been to this Hotel since 2006 when I used to work at the Impulse Airlines Call centre down the road. I must say great to see they have kept the old style look in the bar at front of the Hotel. We had a very nice meal there and I would definitely recommend this place for a feed. I did try some of their craft beers which where excellent. What I was impressed by the chef asked us how our meal was and I replied excellent. To all the staff at the hotel keep up the good work and service.

Additions to review from Trout Hills on the evening of 2/6/2023.
I'm a very well travelled person who is middle aged. I have experienced hospitality across the globe so I would say I have a reasonable idea of what acceptable customer service should be. But I have to say the so called gentleman who made a very feeble attempt to take our order last Friday evening takes out 1st prize for being the most rudest, arrogant, dismissive, condescending front of house I have ever encountered. Not once but twice you gave my friend and I shocking attitude, that's right remember me I made a point of explaining to you very clearly your attitude was out of order.
I understand the hospitality industry is under pressure and I was watching you after our 1st encounter (we tried to order twice) and I had some understanding you were thin with staff. But our 2nd attempt at ordering food was as far as I was prepared to let you go. Treating customers like a school marm out of a Charles Dickens novel is not best practise. At one stage I thought I was a character in Faulty Towers.

One of the most embarasing moments in my life.
i went up to see a dear friend and his son and met up at this Hotel. We arrived at 6.50 pm and were told that ordering food was placed on hold and to come back at 7.30.
We ordered drinks and sat down .
We came back to order and the Front of house man was less than welcoming .
I went to order a Beef Burger and was Berated by this man by not choosing the ones available . I said anyone with Beef will do.
He then told me to go stand behind the white line before i could
order my food.
He belittled me in front of other Patrons, my Friend ,his Son and also the Hotel staff and chef.
As i was visiting from Sydney, my friend who i met up with, who is a local to the area, was so embarassed and disgusted of our treatment, we then had to walk to west leagues where we were met with friendliness and a beautiful meal with no drama.
I would strongly recommend to avoid this place at all.

Showed up here without a booking, and Tim was nothing but accommodating. The meals were prompt and exceptional.

The barmaid remembered our order every shout, we couldn't ask for any more than that.

Well done team!

Great beer garden. Leafy and green. Dog friendly too. They have a big screen project for sport playing in the rear bistro area. Good pub grub, i.e. big portions with lots of chips. Craft beer on tap and they have a big screen showing the beers they currently have available and their tasting notes. Trivia on Thursdays and cheap pizza on Tuesday.

Location seemed good enough. I gave it 3 ? s, despite it advertising itself as a 4 star hotel. The bathroom was functional as a Disability persons needs. I barely had the strength to push the flush button for the cistern. Hot water for shower at 10pm, barely existed. The main bed..had 30cms of clearance to one wall, 40cm on the other side. God knows how more elderly people than I got into bed. The air-conditioning was a freezer zone. Only by keeping the bedroom balcony door ajar could we sleep. But then the airconditioning motors from the court buildings next door..was a new level of noise. With the bathroom..a type of instiutialisation...the hotel room.
At $220 per night...it's definitely not 4 star. There's the newer K ...a huge circular multi level concern. They are 4 stars...at a very similar price. We looked at rooms on their Website.
Not as large rooms, but access to the bed sides wasn't problematic as in our room. But the staff service was great as was the willingness to cook us a quickie Burger, the kitchen had closed 15mins ago.
Management promised to contact their Fire ??"? Alert people to get signage onto the Stairwell doors. Ie, STAIRS as Emergency Exits.
None to be seen near room we were in.
Unsure if other level had signage.
Lastly...I have have a real issue with staff chewing gum. Not pronounced...but it's there. Just not a good look.

This is a fantastic boutique hotel in an amazing location in a fabulous city. Like the rest of Newcastle, the staff are super friendly and helpful. Perfectly located near the wharf, easy access to public transport and on buses and trams.
The hotel has an amazing bar and restaurant with a large beer garden out the back to enjoy the fantastic weather. The food is also great and there is a wide range of local beers on offer.
Call regular live music and a laid-back atmosphere make this a fantastic place to stay while you are visiting Newcastle.

Came in as a walk in on a very busy night and the wait staff were extremely polite and accomodating. They did advise us that the food would be delayed, we only ended up waiting 30 min and staff were still apologetic for the delay. Got the feeling that the staff didn't think anything was a trouble - amazing experience

I love this place. They have a really nice beer garden out the back and I think it's dog-friendly. The food is really delicious and I really like the staff. Great customer service without being pretentious.
We went for dinner before a show at civic theatre last night and the best thing was that the restaurant was clearly under pressure from the amount of people pre-show but none of that stress came out to us. The staff speak nicely and are very good at organising things without making a fuss.
I had salmon fillet with lemon butter sauce and greens. Beautifully cooked and not too huge. My sister had linguine with lovely fresh cherry tomatoes and she said it was the nicest pasta she'd had for ages.
Congratulations to everyone working in the restaurant last night. We had a lovely dinner, thank you

We stayed there whilst the Jazz Festival was on at the town hall
The position was absolute spot on we could walk to the venue. Relish next door had fabulous breakfasts and the Clarendons own restaurant great food as well. The staff were most obliging and helpful so what more could you want. I was a little concerned it would be noisy but the room was quiet as it had double glazed windows. Highly recommend staying there.

Came here for dinner and drinks in the beer garden area. If was lovely, portion size a little small for the price you pay. But there is live music on fri and sat which created a good atmosphere. Overall a good place for chill for a quick feed/drink.

Was supposed to stay here this week, sure to covid flights were cancelled. Still slugged is a nights booking. Pretty poor given the circumstances.

Post response edit:
Also not an unexpected reply from a business that also didnt want to let us reschedule...yes businesses are finding it tough but very very poor as we were happy to come back another time. You still wanted to charge us $150 and not give credit. Ill keep my 1 star there. Avoid!

The staff were lovely, let me start with that. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable about the local area. Super nice. The facilities is where they only get * * *. Hot water was almost non existence, the sink smelt like someone took a dump in it and the shower rose was so low I had to kneel to use it.. Won't be coming back.

Very nice, clean and staff friendly. We were upgraded rooms when we arrived as the bathroom light blew when we went to use it so the very friendly reception guy came to look and moved us rooms. We stayed here for Amy Shark concert and when we arrived back at the hotel we had a drink from the bar, great atmosphere and everyone was friendly. Definitely be back

Great location, close to harbour & restaurants. Room was spacious and clean. I'd recommend bringing ear plugs as the bar downstairs is loud until late.

Old fashioned pub in the centre of Newcastle. Very good selection of beer from some of Australia's best known "craft brewers" classic pub menu that is geared towards food that goes with beer. I ate the chicken schnitzel and it was a perfect companion to my Pirate Life Pale Ale.

Really clean and good room. Blankets and pillows were a little thin. Little noisy on a Friday night but to be expected. We enjoyed our stay
