One of the nicer pubs in the area, kid friendly with lots of families at dinner time. Prices higher than a standard pub. No table service unfortunately and lines to order at peak times can take 5-10 minutes. food is OK, though the serving size of burgers and chips is smaller than expected for the price. The side salads are also a non-event and could be improved greatly. The 6 tacos for $30 is one of the better options and a nice plate to share with friends as I did recently with my friend from Europe visiting me. The kids meals are $19 with ice cream, which is probably the most expensive in the area. I found the chicken parmigiana for $30 over priced but the pizzas for around $22 good value and tasty! The buffalo chicken and LA bendicon were our two favourite pizzas.

My family and I decided to dine at the Blue Gums dining room tonight, where we have been dining for 50 years. We've always had great food and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, this visit may be our last for a while. The food left a lot to be desired. The vegetables were incredibly overcooked to the point where they changed colour, and the coleslaw seemed to consist mainly of cabbage and mayonnaise with a funky taste. When we requested a replacement of the coleslaw with veggies, we were charged an extra $4, but to our surprise, they brought both sides anyway. When you order a classic chicken schnitzel at your local pub, you expect it to be cooked properly, but this one was disappointingly bland and dry. The Diane sauce, which should have complemented the dish, tasted more like rib sauce and was far too thick. Overall, a letdown considering our long history with this establishment.

Reading other reviews from your local client base, we are all use to this pub being a fine establishment. It's so disappointing that our local is now substandard. Time for a change Blue Gums!

Prices are up and food quality is down.
$24 for a cheeseburger with 10 chips is unaustralian.
My wife ordered the "main serving" of S&P squid. I would hate to see the entree serving. Doesn't even come with chips for $28! Just a handful of wilting rocket leaves.
$30 for a parmy the size they serve should be illegal. Save your pennies. The venue is nice but wouldn't bother eating there. There is an awesome kebab shop across the road and an awesome pizza joint across the other side of the main road.

I have been to the Bluegum many many times over the last 20 yrs to eat as we are local however today would have to have been the worst food experience I have ever had! I ordered the salt and pepper sqid and it was terrible. I didn't eat much as it was soggy and tastless. Also it cost $5 for one glass of soda water from the tap! I understand costs have gone up however so must the quality of the meals. If you are going to charge me $28 for a plate of calamari then it must taste like I paid $28 for it. We ordered a cheeseburger with chips for $24 for my daughter and there must have been only 10 chips on the plate. Not sure what has happened here and maybe a one off but we won't be returning anytime soon to eat!

Amazing pub food! They're steaks are juicy and tender. They're chips are crunchy and salty. We often order the schnitzel too which is crunchy and yummy. Definitely give this place a try!

I have never given a 1 star review, in fact, I've only give 5 star reviews! So this review should highlight my disappoint.

This used to be a great place to eat, but has gone downhill significantly in terms of food quality and prices. $17 for a bowl of chips feels disappointing. I wouldn't have written this review and just stopped going to this pub, except that we found that our loyalty card points ($20) had been cancelled with the financial year. That was the final nail in the coffin. Beware, this place is VERY expensive.

Great local pub. Food is excellent, and beer selection is incredible! Food is a little on the pricier size for a pub, but no so much that we won't continue to visit!

Great family meal with friends! A big thanks to the team at the Blue Gum last night who delivered some excellent meals for a number of families we were with. Lots of options and very fresh and tasty.

And importantly, the team are so honest and helpful. I accidentally left my handbag at a table and only realised later in the evening but the staff had found it and safely kept it in the office. A huge thank you!!

Only went to the pub and bistro so I can't comment on the accommodation. Portions were good, the burgers are probably a bit pricier than your standard pub fare as are the desserts. The margarita pizza was great and the tacos were awesome.

The food at the blue gum is consistently to a high standard. In my opinion the best on the North Shore. Only advise here is that they keep the meals as fresh and healthy as possible. Two areas of concern are the lack of general cleanliness. My experience is the tables may be wiped clean, but there is left overs from previous meals and general grime both during and between services. This occurs where the operator does not see this as a priority, and does not have active shift leaders tacking responsibility to direct idol staff. Secondly, on the past two occasions the there have been problems with the mixture from on tap beer and the mixture required for lemon lime and bitters. Staff should actively check each drink, and if a customer does raise a problem, act on it without question. The latter two issue can make this good pub even better if the operator is interested.

The food was great but hope the owner considers the very BAD acoustics there.

First of couldn't decide what to have until my partner spotted the special next to the bar - BLAT with aioli (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) on Turkish toasted with side of chips, so we ordered.

I asked for crispy bacon on both BLAT absolutely amazing and hands down the best bloody blat I have ever had.

Chips were seasoned to perfection with crispy crunch on the outside and to die for on the inside.

After lunch I had to go back with plates in my hand and personally thank this chef for his amazing food, credit to you,

You are asset to this hotel and your food is amazing.

Food is "good" not the best not the worst. First off the steak. 44 bucks for a 250gm steak is ridiculous... I wouldn't of minded so much about the cost if it was the best steak I'd ever eaten but it was pretty average to be honest.

The salmon i was skeptical about, because after having the steak i thought the salmon wouldn't be a decent serving or the cooked to perfection.
I was so wrong!!! The salmon was AMAZING!!! perfectly cooked and a massive filet. If i hadn't already had a steak before hand i would of gotten a second plate of salmon!!! Perfectly crispy skin!!

5 stars for the salmon
2 stars for the steak.
1 star for over all price of things (even drinks were pricey)
4 stars for the Service (it's good and staff are great to deal with very friendly and polite.)

The pub has been there for years, my father used to go there. It used to be a great pub. I've moved back to the area and what a disappointment. Firstly drinks are very expensive, expect to pay $14 for a wine. The biggest downfall is the staff. The drive through bottle shop staff don't acknowledge you and are are more interested in their phones, and that's not a one off. There are probably 1 or 2 staff behind the bar that will actually serve you if they are not having a chat amongst themselves. In essence, service is terrible, it's overpriced, and don't expect a hotel priced meal. I would go elsewhere

This is based on our experiences of hosting 2 engagement parties here one in August and the other in November this year. It is a shame they are no longer doing functions however we have come here with family and always found the food to be amazing and the service fast.

The engagement parties were both for different crowds and setups were different each time. In August we got COVID so had to reschedule the first one and the staff were really nice about it helping us change the date at no loss to us as we had already paid before as we were getting sharing plates for our group. The November party was buffet sytle and the wait staff were really nice in taking food around despite not having that scheduled. Both events were amazing and they set up the terrance function room really beautifully each time.

We would recomend the dinning experience and will continue coming for many years to come.

The lady who seemed to be the manager served wine that had turned to vinegar when asked to change it to another she argued saying that's just what happens to wine and this is an establishment not your house and that someone else would buy the wine. Openly declaring that she would be happy serving an off wine to another guest was terrible. She then wanted to charge the price for half a bottle to open another that wasn't off because we were wasting a glass of the off wine! This really spoiled our evening, won't be going back.

Great pub, nice meals.... although not 'amazing' value. Accommodation up stairs is also quite good. Clean and comfortable rooms, although road noise might bother light sleepers. Accommodation includes continental breakfast.

I'm biased because I live in the area, but it's easily the best pub in the upper North Shore. Amazing craft beers on tap (that they change frequently), real place that is roaring in Winter, good food (but I understand the "bit expensive" comments), and awesome service.

Worst service I've ever experienced! For some reason all employees picked on me and I was just minding my own business - maybe due to my ethnicity? I felt discriminated against as everyone else around me seemed fine.

Great joint that is very community oriented. Sponsoring local sports and community organisations and serving up good food. Try the burger - one of the juiciest around. It can get busy on the weekend, but with all the families frequenting on a Friday and Saturday night, it just goes to show how it's no longer the rough and tumble pub of yesteryear.

Lunch at the Blue Gum today was disappointing!
When you go to a modern pub in the city, you expect a reasonable meal, considering the money you are paying.
When I ordered fish and chips, I asked if it came with salad. The bored, unhappy waiter said,
"Nah. That's extra!"
When I received my meal, the fish was obviously frozen from a box and the salad was lots of salad, with a tiny bit of tomato! I understand that frozen food is common to allow for expediency, but I paid $27 for this food.

Nicely cleaned and maintained, friendly staff, decent food. First time in many years the mushrooms in a pasta dish were finished off with cream. Most restaurants seem to forget this. The only thing stopping this from a 5 is the people smoking outside could be smelt inside.

Work mates and I went after work on a Friday. Parking was a bit hit and miss as it was a busy time of day but for those that didn't get the car park we got a spot on the street and had a small walk. We were able to get a table in the bar area straight away then after a drink we headed in to the bistro for dinner. The food was great, no one disliked any of their dishes and the prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was friendly, so was the staff. The only thing I would say was that the decor was a bit out of date but that's really the only thing. I would return again in the future.

Awesome! Can't wait to return! Got this resort for a excellent price at ??????????.??? I enjoyed this resort and I'm so happy I stayed at my favorite hotel for much less than what I usually pay.

Plenty of parking at the back of the hotel. Good ambience in the bistro and it is not the crummy ambience that you would usually associate with such pubs. Food middle of the road. Pulled beef taco was good, the chicken one was average. Have eaten better steak sandwiches

I went there today with moderate expectations of a decent steak. What I got for my $36 scotch fillet was a hunk of inedible gristle. I have never had a scotch fillet this bad in my life. My friend also ordered the scotch fillet and his was the same.
I hope that it was a one off, but enough for me to never eat there again!

Work function. Made it easy for us to order food and drinks. I took the healthy option for once and had their lamb salad. Very large portion with generous helpings of sliced roast lamb. Mixed in with greens, beetroot and white cheese. Delicious. No complaints from my colleagues and their dishes.

I booked the Terrace function room for a special event on the 8/5/2021. The level of service and communication was phenomenal from the initial enquiry to the night of the event, it was effortless. Damian and the team of chefs cooked an amazing cocktail feast, nothing was problem. The entire team at the blue gum hotel work so well together. I can't recommend this venue enough. Thank you so much. You made our night a memory that will last a lifetime. ??

Place had a really good atmosphere and friendly vibe. Is well set out and well presented. Service staff were really friendly and food was delicious. Queue for ordering was quite quick as was turn around for service. Given popularity of the place, on-site parking was full, but there is plenty in adjacent street. Overall, highly recommend the Blue Gum Hotel.

A true gem in Hornsby. Lovely food, the menu could get rotated more often, but you'll never find a better cooked steak.However, the selection of beer on tap is never boring. They always have a bold selection on tap that rotates often.I remember coming here when I was a child with my parents to the bistro, I now take my family here too.Charming, delightful, cosy

Food was good but disappointing service. Extremely quiet and yet they managed to lose our order (and seemed to think it wasnt their fault). Rest of the table had finished their meals before WE approached them, to which we were met with apathy. When asked for compensation they did it very begrudgingly. Not super stoked

Food is over priced and average. Not bad steak with barely any sides for $36? RubbishAs for the Chicken Parmigiana? Ugh, chicken was OK and a good size but tasteless, tiny smear of tomato sauce with a bit of cheese on it. Dry and disappointing.This is NOT a great eatery but the service was good.

Giving 3 stars but really wish there was a 2.5 coz that's really what the Blue Gum is: dead on average. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it's also nothing special. I would say that any given meal here would leave you with a "meh, that was alright" reaction. That being said, they are consistent so you're never in danger of having a "bad" meal, but you won't get a great one either. My biggest warning would be how over priced EVERYTHING is here - from the mains to the drinks and sides. For the outrageous prices you pay here you could actually afford a really nice meal at a really nice restaurant. If you just want an easy, decent pub feed then you'll get one, but it will absolutely cost you.

I love the Bluegum Hotel. Delicious food, great variety of beer. But the staff consistently take your beer glass when there is still 10% left.
