Call out to anyone (or if you know someone) that can give a few hours to support raising funds for Veterans and Veterans Families this Saturday.

The Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch need some help, please see attached post from their Facebook page. The support you offer will help fellow Veterans and you will also meet some awesome people and get some rather snazzy Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch merchandise.

www.facebook.com/HawthornRSL/posts/pfbid0D96H14CAqmUchJLGF9qDMETEHqmekCRiNyiHE6sawkySojZJefN3SJA9...⭐️EDIT: We’ve filled the available positions. Thanks to all who replied. ⭐️

We need volunteers to see Alice Cooper, Blondie, Psychedelic Furs, Wolfmother, Wheatus, Cosmic Pyschos, and more this weekend!
How can you get a free ticket to Pandemonium Rocks?
Hawthorn RSL has the job of directing car parking and selling ANZAC Appeal badges. In exchange for this extremely low drag job, volunteers will get free access to the festival, as well as free Hawthorn merch like a beanie and jumper.

This is great! Give us a shout if you or your mates want to get a free ticket!

The President and all Members of the Montmorency Eltham RSL extend an invite to attend the RSLs observation of Australia’s National Day of Commemoration – ANZAC Day, Thursday 25 Apr 24.

Australians and New Zealanders commemorate ANZAC Day on 25 April every year. This is the anniversary of the day when Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on Gallipoli in 1915 as part of the Allies' invasion. ANZAC Day draws large crowds of people to the dawn services, and marches are held around the country.

ANZAC Day is a time for all Australians to recognise the more than 1.5 million service men and women who have served our country in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations. It's also a time to remember the over 103,000 Australians who sacrificed their lives in our country's name.

DAWN SERVICE – ELTHAM CENOTAPH, MAIN RD ELTHAM - 6AM

The first commemorative event of ANZAC Day is the Dawn Service at 4.30am. This is about the time men of the ANZAC approached the Gallipoli beach. However, the origin is the traditional ‘stand-to’, in which troops would be woken so that by the first rays of dawn they were in position and alert, in case of an enemy attack in the eerie half-light. It is a ritual and a moment remembered by many veterans.

Some debate exists about the first Dawn Service. Nevertheless, early dawn services such as that held in 1923 at Albany, Western Australia, conducted by the Reverend Arthur White—Rector of St John’s Church, and formerly a Padre with the 44th Battalion on the Western Front—were the forerunners of the modern tradition.

The Eltham Dawn Service is a tradition that is growing in turnout that this year will see two large screen TVs for attendees to be able to easily view the service. Please try and arrive well before the 6am start time and then stay around the town and attend breakfast at the Eltham Junior Football Club (with all money raised given to the RSL).

ANZAC DAY MARCH – FORM UP WERE ST MONTMORENCY - 10AM

From cities to small towns, the march has long been the centrepiece of ANZAC Day. Marches were held during the Great War, and became popular with veterans in the 1920s, to honour lost friends and publicly express comradeship. The RSL organises the marches. While it was traditional for veterans who saw active service, it was later relaxed to include those who served in Australia in the armed services or ‘land armies’ during the Second World War. It has been relaxed further, with encouragement and acceptance of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren marching, to assist aged veterans or to represent relatives. Former soldiers from allied armies have also been allowed to march.

The March is also growing and will include our wonderful local first responders. Step off is 10am so please get there early if you wish to march.

ANZAC DAY FAMILY SERVICE - MONTMORENCY ELTHAM RSL - 1030AM

In towns and cities across Australia and around the world, Australians attend services to:

• salute the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have worn our country's uniform
• recognise the men and women who are currently serving overseas
• acknowledge the impact this has on them and their family and friends who remain at home

The Family service is a perfect way to commemorate at the conclusion of the march. With involvement from all local schools and activities afterwards we welcome all to attend.

On Tuesday our President Glen Ferrarotto gave the keynote address at the Victorian Premiers ANZAC Day Lunch.

Glen represented himself, the RSL and all Veterans impeccably; he spoke on issues facing Veterans and how important Veterans are for the Australian community.

He highlighted the need for more acute mental health care, continued issues regarding Veteran suicide, issues with veteran homelessness, a focus on the outcomes of the Royal Commission and more.

He asked the Government to help us protect ANZAC Day, Australia's most sacred day, especially from groups with agendas that interrupt services and marches across the state. As he stated:

“Don’t tell us to be more accepting and more respectful, tell them”

He put the Government and the RSL to account, explained how they are placed to work for all these issues and for all Veterans. His most poignant statement:

“We fought for you, now you fight for us”

There are a lot of issues that come being a Veteran and Glen highlighted these and offered both Government, the RSL and other ESOs on ways ahead. Glen showed the leadership we are proud of at the Montmorency Eltham RSL and showed he is a leader for all Veterans and the Veteran Community.

The attached video is just a small snippet from his speech.

Had the privilege of being there when Glen Ferrarotto delivered this speech. A voice is what we need from our RSL leaders, great to see Glen take the responsibility on during this luncheon. We need more of it, our veterans deserve a voice and proper leadership.

Well done Glen Ferrarotto 👏

A true leader Glen.
