We didn't stay at the hotel, but popped in to try the Thursday Pub Steak Special. It was yummy and the staff are very friendly.

The pub has a relaxed atmosphere & on Thursday nights you can join the Pool Competition which has a $100 prize for the winner.

The hotel is located across the way from the beautifully maintained Victoria Gardens and within walking distance of most town amenities.

The room was $150 for 1 night in total for 2 people. This is expensive for a hotel. The room was quite small with 2 single beds, a small bookshelf, and an old ceiling fan and air conditioner. Good service at the bar and close to the city.

Shane Thomas is the absolute best and funniest managers of a pub I've ever met in my life, he also does the best Austin Powers/ Mike Myeres inpression ive ever me, his personality is worth it alone to come back and enjoy the experience the food was absolutely to die for I would recommend this venue to anyone and everyone who wants a great meal with amazing service

I only used the Cafe whilst there. The menu is not available until Sundays.... unfortunate. The young lady was very nice a courteous, she managed a Bacon and Egg roll and Coffee for me which was very nice. The Hotel is a typical country pub, clean and tidy with no complaints from me. Sad about the menu.

Called in on our way to Gladstone. Was served our first cold beer by the lovely Molly who was an absolute gem. All I can say is give the girl a payrise very bubbly and was a great host. Thanks for the laughs??'???

This place is shocking.
Rooms are so dirty along with the whole place and the showers are disgraceful.
The shower water doesn't drain so the water from previous user is still there.
Spider webs throughout the whole place .
From Thursday-Sunday you can forget sleeping as the place is so loud .

A beautiful old pub. Well maintained and full of history. The staff were particularly wonderful. Not sure the spelling is correct but Crystal and Cindy are a great asset to the place. Both went above and beyond to insure we had a great stay. Will be back and highly recommend you check it out.

Ordered lunch on a visit to Forbes unfortunately the kitchen never got our order after sitting there for almost an hour waiting for our buzzer to go off, we asked where our food was. They apologised and offered to cook it then but we asked for a refund and left.?. So we can't say what the food was like.

Had a meal on Wednesday THE 7TH with three others Menu was not up to scratch. Two of our party had the Cutlets from the menu, Unable to eat. Coating was so tough that you they can not cut it to eat their meal. Not Lamb cutlets. No coffee after 1pm. Staff had a look at the meal and said sorry about the meal. Not good for a country PUB

Lovely young lady on service how ever food was rubbish. Ordered the wings and got 6 wing bits sitting in a bowl with blood coming from ends for 15 bucks. Pasta ok but seemed to me a mass produced sauce. You expect more. Wish I could say it was awesome experience however it was not.

It's so good that this historical pub has been saved from closing and has been given a new lease of life as a fantastic place to visit and enjoy a good meal in amazing surroundings and a great atmosphere ?.

The water has subsided and Forbes is open for business. If you are travelling through or travelling to, stop and support the town. You will be pleasantly surprised. We stopped at the Vandenberg Hotel for lunch and a refreshing cold drink.

The bar area was nice so was the food but the room was very old and only one power point so if you want to watch the TV you can't have the fridge or charge your phone also no light only a table lamp won't stay there again

One of the best pubs in NSW!!
Great feed! Good clean rooms! And fairly priced. Would 100% stay here again! Its great to see there's still some pubs around not taking advantage of covid and jacking the prices up.

Spent last night there. It was new years eve and I was warned about the DJ. My room was moved to the other side of the building so it would not disturb me too much. I was tired...and it didn't disturb me at all. Friendly welcome, comfy bed and a hot shower in the morning. What more does one need? The schnitzel with meatballs was lovely, especially the side salad and its dressing! My favourite thing was the creaky floorboards...it's just something that goes so well with an old-style hotel. So glad the other hotel didn't answer my call when I was ringing around. STAY HERE! Eat here!

An old pub across from a park. Came with a bunch of family on a weeknight, had a really nice meal, friendly service even though we had a messy baby. Don't really know what more I could want. Maybe some nicer decor for the dining area as it feels a bit cramped and old? But that's a nitpick, food and service great.

Nice rustic hotel in the middle of the town. Good range of popular beers on tap. Old but clean, comfortable rooms with tall ceilings and 2nd story has a good balcony with chairs and tables and view over the central town park. Excellent meals and friendly atmosphere. I had a plate of pork ribs with chips and coleslaw. Huge plate and excellent food. Wish I had taken a photo. Staying overnight was good value..the room cost me $50.

Reading the other reviews, seems I was here on an off night. Bar staff ignored myself and another customer for about 15minutes while they served folk on the other side of the bar and it took both of them to attend to a phone call. Not the courtesy of "be with you in a minute" or a friendly smile to make us feel welcome. My friends and I, like the other customer, gave them the benefit of the doubt and continued to wait until they decided to acknowledge our presence and take our food order. Food was fine, but bar staff were unfriendly and clearly out of their depth as they tried to organise a range of simple drinks: beer, pink lemonade, wine. The staff member chewing gum while serving should have been a warning to go elsewhere and the next night we did. Unimpressed.
