We really enjoyed our lunch party at the Exchange. The bistro area allowed us privacy for our group, 20 adults and 8 children. The meals were exemplary, everyone commented on how delicious the food was. The bar and bistro staff were very friendly and attentive. BF

I would recommend this pub. Our group had a variety of menu items. Food was presented well and was fresh. Wait staff and bar staff were very polite and well dressed. The pub itself has had a nice renovation. The only issue was the mens toilet had no soap at all. The toilets had soap holders but that's it. It's a very poor reflection apon the general manager when hygiene is compromised just to save a few dollars. We all know how important hygiene needs to be especially in a food establishment. Hopefully the chefs have soap available in the kitchen. Most suppliers will stock and install soap throughout the venue, just give them a call.

The cocktails and food were great for bottomless brunch! The drinks were tasty. However they took forever to deliver the cocktails so much so that they would only serve us half of our order since we ordered 2 each. I'm not sure if this was a part of the package or not, they should probably say if it was. We got there and then ordered our first cocktails and had to wait 40 minutes even though the booking was for 2 hours. We would've enjoyed it more if we didn't have to wait so long between cocktails since it was a bottomless brunch.

Nice atmosphere on weeknights before 10pm - then the local ice junkies begin to arrive. From 10 until close at 3am this establishment is a well documented and frequented ice junkie pokies den. Gambling problems, money laundering, drug dealing and the frequent drug-fueled verbal argument expound in this venue. The security on the door are always friendly and understanding though! Great work!

Really average feed. $39 scotch fillet way over cooked, dry, chewy (ordered MR came out MW). Salad consisted of mesculin and radish only. Bar out of almost 50% of beers on tap.

The staff are friendly and it was fast service.
Nice that it's accessible by a lift with 1 step at entrance.
Can park at the side but fairly busy.

The food is overpriced for the quality that you get.
The salt and pepper squid was chewy and cost more than any other pub or club in Newcastle that I have been to.
The surf and turf snitzel was ok but expensive.
I wouldn't go back.

I love the new (that's new to me) interiors. The bistro upstairs is really nice, and there's the balcony - beautiful. Sunday is sports day and $15 pizzas which is pretty good. I had a Surf and Turf scotch fillet - lovely.

I went to this place recently after about two years and it has maintained its quality. I ordered the beef and the chicken burger. Both were awesome and cooked to perfection. The balcony is a very nice spot to witness the last light while having a meal.

Seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had. Spent a Saturday afternoon up here, great venue, amazing staff and fantastic food!! Make sure you drop in, you won't regret it!

My husband and I have had 2 meals at The Exchange recently and they have all been sensational! Fresh, tasty and great serving size. This is one of the best places in Newcastle for great tasty food, impressive drinks offerings and relaxing atmosphere. Do yourself a favour and visit The Exchange Hotel.

Awesome from the moment we stepped through the doors. Staff were friendly and helpful, cocktails delicious and the food was amazing!!!! Generous portions, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. We will be back for sure!!!

Went on a Monday night and they had half-priced meals; only spent $30 for two pastas and a garlic bread. Food was good, generous servings, no complaints on that end. Balcony had a good little view of the less popular end of Beaumont St. Good spot for an afternoon catch up with friends ?

Tasty burger, good vegetarian options. Sweet potatoes could be more crispy. Cool vibes.

Terrible food, terrible service. Absolutely wouldn't eat here again. The pumpkin salad in particular was a joke. All guests at the table were completely dissatisfied with their meals. We had to clear our own table. Can see why the venue was near-empty on a Saturday!

Initially my meal was forgotten & when it came, it was just plopped down on the table - no apology for forgetting my order. Finished our meal & drinking quietly upstairs and we were asked to move so they could set up for 5 o'clock - though we were asked to move at 4 o'clock. How long does it take to put cutlery on a table!!!! Then moved downstairs to public bar & were asked again to move by the 'manager' because the table was booked for 5:30 - it was 4:30 at the time. Never been to any pub where you can reserve a table in a public bar. Ridiculous!! Won't be back!!! Is this age discrimination as we are not young people???

Excellent venue and great vibe. The whole lamb shoulder was divine!!! Great wine list, good range of cold beer on tap. Lovely staff and fast service. Highly recommend a visit. Parking is typical for inner city areas. All in all so far one of the best pubs in Newie we have tried.

An hour and a half to wait for lunch when it is not busy. On a Tuesday.
However, the food is so amazing. The atmosphere is so relaxing. Love the new look.

Franco never disappoints....pizza was superb as always. Entree prawns cooked in the pizza oven were phenomenal.... smoky flavours totally complimented the delicious tomato sauce. Staff always super helpful and accommodating.

Walked in for the first time since the new renovations, it looks great. Love the feel of the restaurant it's cosy and comfortable. I wasn't fussed on my dish that I ordered which was the prawn pasta with bisque. The bisque was too strong and overpowering and I didn't really enjoy it. My dessert was nice. I will be back would love to try the pizza and an entree.
They have an extensive wine list and an intriguing cocktail list which next time if I'm not driving will be sure to try

We came for a dinner party. Live music was great, pasta was yummy. However, birthday girl asked for a well done steak and she got rare to medium well done steak.

We asked the waitress to take the steak back, which she did to only return another medium well done steak. The lesson here is that the hotel is unable to make a well done steak here.

We were a party of 5. Ordered drinks & meal from bar , with ease. My choice of meal was delicious - Eggplant pasta and my fellow diners enjoyed their meals too- pizza, chicken & fish and squid.
My only gripe is the venue is very noisy, and difficult to chat & hear amongst our party.

We worth a second try that's for sure!
My friend and l had returned to this busy upstairs restaurant after rather unsatisfactory experience a couple of months ago.
However we came away from the Exchange agreeing this time we'd had an excellent meal and that we'd be happy to recommend it to others who enjoy good food and drinks at very reasonable prices.
We both sipped G & T s while looking over the menu.
My friend chose the barramundi and garden salad while I went for the slow cooked chicken and vegetables.
She selected a Hunter Merlot while chose a glass of SA red.
Our dishes arrived promptly and proved to be excellent choices
Full of flavour and cooked to perfection.
We decided to share a desert of lemon sorbet with crumbled meringue.
Great if you've got a sweet tooth like me.
We had a coffee each to finish our meals, and complimented the restaurant's manager on and excellent dinner made all the better because of the friendly and helpful service we'd received throughout the evening.

Atmosphere was great. Table was great. One of us joined on a previous visit and is receiving Exchange emails but wasn't in the system so was told sorry your not a member. Entrees were delivered at the same time as mains. Asked for mains to be served after we finished entrees. When mains arrived the steak came out raw. Red and cold in middle. Overall atmosphere great, more attention on the service and food.

We all enjoyed our visit here. The meals were satisfactory even though some of us had more food than we could eat.
We will come again.

Excellent food. I had a standard cheeseburger and chips. It was $20 so a little steep, but honestly worth every cent. Really nice vibe. Also from here you can reach a gym on Pokémon Go, so that's good too. Will definitely go back.

A very nice night out, up stairs at The Exchange Hotel bistro. Superbly fresh salads, an excellent Pork cutlet main meal, my partner really enjoyed her main of barramundi fillets as well. Good selection of wines, bottle or by the glass, and a number of very good craft beers on tap. Rang ahead to book for a table for Saturday night, and a portion of the Pork cutlet main, which we had been advised by hotel staff the night before to do.
Will most definitely be back here, when we next make a trip to Newcastle, and to Hamilton in particular !

I celebrated my birthday yesterday, upstairs on the veranda, with 16 people. The atmosphere was great. Food and Drinks were excellent.I was blown away with the refurbishment. So was many of my friends. The staff were friendly.Nice to see a hotel, making use of their verandah. Will definitely be back.

Loved it. Amazing food, friendly staff. Great cosy atmosphere in a large open venue. Internal and alfresco dining and fantastic decor. Awesome place.

We ate on the balcony. Prompt booking and confirmation. Great food and excellent deserts in a comfortable atmosphere. Refurbishments are impressive. Will eat there again and try out the pizza oven next time. All upstairs but there is a lift.

Jack of all trades but master of none; is it a pub, is it a restaurant, is it a club? I don't think I knew and it didn't either.If it ain't broke don't fix it. What happened to the amazing burger menu they used to offer? Now only 2 mediocre burgers on the menu with limited options to customize; pretty disappointing.Bring back the old burger menu and prices and I'll consider making it my "go to" again every week.Gave it a shot but they've lost a regular loyal customer.
