Happenstance led us to the bar and grill around dinner time. It was schnitzel 'Snity' night and the portion was generous. Paired with oysters and many pints of beer. The locals were friendly, talkative, and very cool. It was a very pleasant evening and would defiantly recommend if you're passing into Tea GardensZ

Going here with my family has been a childhood tradition. I went here lastnight with family and the environment is still the same great energy as well as the service is never long waits. My only negative is the variety of vegan friendly options are very limited and the ones that are available are very tasteless.

I hope there is a little improvement in future.

My father and I have enjoyed staying in the accomodation out back on various occasions over the years and enjoyed both the hotel facilities and the great food from the bistro. Accomodation can be noisey and it,s parking is not guaranteed , hotel patrons park in accomodation parking spots for hours , but we understand it's a hotel with people enjoying themselves so we just accept it and enjoy our stay.

Such a fabulous pub right on the water. Had a wonderful time. The cheeseburger was delicious and the fries outstanding!

Arrived for lunch lots of outdoor dining options some with a view. The meal however was terrible. The fish burrito was gross, and way too much large cuts of cabbage, (cabbage and fish really?) no sauce, fish was average. And trying to wrap the 'burrito' let's not go there..
The Asian salad was also basic chicken was too chewy.
Chicken schnitzel and chips with veg were average. The vegetables were raw, and only just warmed up.
Way overpriced for a pub meal. Would have a beer or two here but wouldnt eat again. Choose another place in Tea gardens for a feed.
Edit: Regarding their reply to contact them which I then emailed them, I also received no reply. That was over two weeks ago. Do better..

Terrible pizza that I could have cooked better myself at home and horridly overpriced ($30). Service is basically non-existent. Raffle consisted of ONE seafood tray. Not impressed.

As previously described, rooms all face onto the pubs rear courtyard including outside stage. Extremely loud Saturday night, but had to be expected. Lovely location right on the water. The rooms are all new and refurbished.

Caught a ferry from Nelson Bay over to Tea Gardens and very conveniently stopped/ tied up across the road from the pub. Strolled around aimlessly for a while till we did something sensible...got back to the pub. I had a few schooners with lunch, bit of a chit chat with my only facebook friend, took a few photos and caught the ferry back to Nelson Bay. Great pub, plenty of areas to have a beer.

What a place! We stayed here with our kids on our way up the coast & loved it. Rooms are beautifully styled, very clean & have super cute touches for the kids. Pub meals were 10/10, we both had the lamb shanks & couldn't fault them. Amazing! Staff were super friendly, helpful & up for a chat & the huge play area was our lifesaver. Why don't more pubs have these??? We'll be back & we'll be telling all our friends. Do yourself a favour & get to the Tea Gardens Hotel!

A great location ....except.... All the motel rooms face onto the outside garden bar with full on children's play area. Ugghhh... Screaming children directly outside you door is. Not not what anyone wants at 8.30pm on a Sunday night. Soo disappointed. The staff told me that the children's play area is opened to 10pm every night. Ugghhh. . The pub is great, food is good. Get rid of the the kids play area. Cheers.

My wife and I recently stayed at this accommodation for our 6th anniversary, and I must say, it was an overall great experience!

Note: Friday night was live band night, and the band was blasting what sounded like heavy metal music or hard rock. We were warned it'd be loud and crazy, and they weren't kidding! It was hard to sleep that night as our room was close enough to feel like we were in the mosh pit with the crowd cheering on. So keep this in mind if you're after a quiet stay. It probably won't be an issue if you love that style of music though.

I recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a fantastic stay in a beautiful location. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Best motel in Tea Gardens. Beds were fantastic. Motel is attached to a Bowling Club and the Chinese Restaurant on site was one of the best meals I've ever had. It's a shame my wife and I were only passing through

This venue was great for lunch. The dining rooms were all completely packed on a Sunday but our food was really quick to come out. A huge range on the menu, reasonably priced and really delicious. A bit of a wait for the bar, but like i said, it was really busy. The staff were amazing and really friendly. We would happily stop here again ?

Right on the water it's a good location to have a meal with friends or family. I had a vegetarian meal (poke bowl) which was very flavourful.

Many locals go here for a drink and food. So the business must be doing something right.

The menu on the website is not at all accurate. The website boasts "modern Australian fare" but the actual menu is very basic and classic pub grub. Tasty and well priced, but not at all what was advertised.

Visited on a busy Saturday afternoon. Line up for the bar and to order dinner was long, its a popular place. We really enjoyed our meals and the food here has really improved since we visited years ago but the kitchen seemed extremely under the pump and staff seemed stressed out at both the bistro and bar....They were doing a great job and were all working super hard! Loved the woodfired pizza, we will be back next time we visit Hawkes Nest!

A good place to have a beer and a feed with views of the river. The staff were friendly and there was plenty of room to move about and sit. We visited the hotel on a friday. It could be more crowded on the weekends. Overall, very pleasant.

Location, food, menu, entertainment, kid friendly, spacious. This place has everything you want in a hotel and more. It's often super busy yet food is served quickly and as good as ever. Highly recommend ?

What a hidden gem.

We spent a few weekends up here and loved the area.

It was so good in fact... purchased a house in the riverside town and made it my local.

Good people. Great vibes. Excellent food.

I asked them to chop the burger in half as I can't eat much after a recent operation, they didn't, I mentioned it, they said there is a knife over there pointing down the hall, so I picked up a knife and went back to the table. When I got back to the table and dug it out from under the chips, the top of the burger wasn't on the bottom, so we lost half the ingredients. We put it back together and cut it. It was the worst burger I remember having and the chips weren't cooked well. The whole meal was pretty pathetic. The beer was good though! Won't go back. There are 2 great restaurants on the river and several great takeaways there. That was the only bad meal we have ever had at Tea Gardens. so not my loss. He loses our money and gets a bad review.

We had had a table booked, actually rang a second time to ensure there were vegetarian meals available, and to reconfirm. When we got there, no booking, we even checked the book. We were thankfully able to join some tables together under cover, as it did shower on and off. It was very busy. Menu was very limited for a pub. Some bar staff could use a lesson in customer service.Service at bistro was good, even though they were busy. Prices a little dear for quantity, but that could have had to do with it being Easter. View was great, play area for kids was really good, though no cover.
Would come back to give it another chance.

What a hidden gem.

Only an hour from Newcastle on the freeway, it's well worth the travel for an experience with a difference.

It was so good in fact, I purchased a house in the riverside town and made it my local.

Good people. Great vibes. Excellent food.

I had a quick Tuesday lunch a calamari cone it came wrapped up in paper in a cone shape. The service was ordering lunch was above pub standard. ? Lot's of outdoor sunny and covered spot to sit which I love especially with the great location. I had a wine with lunch, bar service was quick as there was no wait but a smile or a thanks would of been nice and they weren't busy "
The place was clean and tidy.

We've been going to Tea Gardens for 30 yrs, the pub has been through a few phases during that time. It's in a very good place now. Very family friendly, smiling staff and great food.

I went here for lunch today. Staff were very helpful and friendly, food and drinks were good value. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Even though it was raining, I had a great view of the river and even saw dolphins while I was eating my delicious chicken wrap! COVID safe precautions in place too :)

Old-school country pub that is family friendly and offers plenty of space. Located in the main shopping strip at Tea Gardens, the meals are adequate and fresh and the drinks are cold. Gets busy on weekend lunchtimes and there can be a queue to get in due to current COVID restrictions. Reasonable prices, make sure you go for a walk alongside the river afterward to help digest lunch.

The rooms are well lit, recently modernised and Comfortable. Definitely worth going again. I ordered pizza but unfortunately it was very burnt . Did not accept it when it was given to me and asked for a new one, the young lady gave me the worst look and said OMG to me under hear breath. I had to bring that to the attention of a more senior person in the kitchen. The next pizza was perfectly cooked and delicious. I recommend the accommodation and local area for sure though

Drinks were great, but ordered the Botanical Burger that was labelled as Vegan and was clearly not. Had cheese, aioli and milk solids in the bun. Do not label it as vegan if it has animal products in it.

We had many a meal here on our last trip to Tea Gardens and it was the bustling centre of town! It has gorgeous views of the Myall River from one side. The food quality was top notch and the coffee was great. Service was also impeccable. Thanks for making our stay a warm one!

Nice pub in Tea Gardens right at Myall River. Lots of space with great views inside, large beergarden. Q big playground for the kids. The rooms are large and light. Bathrooms rather small though. Unfortunately the walls are thin so one can hear what's been said in the next room. Staff is friendly but the check in staff hardly said a word which wasn't really welcoming. Parking on premises is very limited but free street parking around. Good value for money off season
