What a great location. close to Stadium. revamped rooms have everything you need for an o/nyt stay.
our 'private function' room was great for a 60th with 50 guests.

We always stay here ,great food and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and clean . We won't stay anywhere else when visiting Newcastle.

Went for a birthday function. Both function rooms were in use and our group had the smaller room. People from the other function continually walked through our function to get to their own despite having their own entry point. Our room is an 'outdoor room' however the roof was out of order so it could not be opened up to allow for any air flow. It was incredibly hot and closed off. The staff did not offer to open anything up to help despite complaints.
Food was ok.

Such a great pub. The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is so good here. I have never had a bad meal. Smoking seating out the front of the pub on the street is nice. The staff here are always friendly and the food comes out quickly. Multiple bathrooms so there is no wait. Plenty of street parking and a carpark to the side. A good hidden treasure that is never too busy.

Had a lovely after funeral get-together here. Nice place, good service.

We stayed in esuite room 10. Small but clean, a little noisy with a function on downstairs, and a few loud people in the hallway to the bathroom, but not enough to disturb us. Rooms could really do with a small fridge.
Take a blow dryer with you. Basic toiletries. All in all good value. Serves our purpose, which is close to family. We'll be back.

A nice lunch. I had the steak sandwich on turkish bread. However, the bread wasn't toasted so it was soggy.

Had to attend a course at Tafe and found this to be the closest. They have a selection of both ensuite and shared bathrooms. Rooms are clean and the linens are changed regularly every 3 days. The bathrooms are smallish and so are the rooms but for someone visiting for a short period I reckon this should suffice. The pub downstairs has a decent collection and chilled beer, the restaurant is decent too. The staff is great.... Cant complain

Great food, fabulous meals and great staff and service. The only thing that spoilt the experience was the terrible music piped outside. Terrible thrash metal, dreary country rock ballads and rock music played too loud. We were sitting behind the speaker too! We'll try sitting inside next time I think. Still, I would highly recommend this venue for a great, fast service dining experience.

Cute little pub with a friendly vibe. We had a great meal and the beers cold.
The accomadation is clean and the beds are comfortable although the room was small with no kitchenette or fridge. Parking is limited but a great central location .

It was Tuesday night- as advertised online and all over the hotel posters-$14 snitty night. The boys were like yep sick let's go get a $14 buck snitty. We get to the front counter and I order my snitty and the worker says $22 bucks. I'm like ok but it said $14 online and on the poster over there. The lady says it's too busy and they decided to change it to full price (they had been selling snittys at $14 that night but decided to up it due to the number of patrons they had lewered in on the false pretence of $14 buck snittys ) Not being the make a scene sort of guy I didn't call for the manager. I still had 2 beers and enjoyed the snitty but something didn't sit right, my first review ever. If the Castle taught me anything it's to stand up for injustice so here I am, standing up for the little man who had come to a pub expecting a $14 snitty as advertised. Would I go back, probably.

The $12 schnitzel was not available so paid full price. It was crowded took us ages to find a table which was dirty with plates needed to clear and clean ourselves. There was also no veges available for the schnitzel. Waited an hour for an extremely average overpriced schnitzel. You shouldn't advertise a cheap meal to attract customers then say it's not available it's false advertising which is dishonest and cheaty in this inflated and harsh economy. Where is the service?! Overall an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.

We had room 8, with ensuite. Close to family who live around the corner. Quiet for a pub location. Clean, comfy. Breakfast Cafe across the road. Would have liked tea and coffee making in the room, and hair-dryer. We'll be back, no probs.

We got a room that we requested. The room is very spacious. Clean and neatly organized.The staff were friendly. The Manager or person in charge acknowledged my booking and he confirmed that he had a twin bed for myself and son. He was very professional. The food was very delicious and the enviroment was awesome. Loved it very much. I would recommend this place. What we paid was worth it. Thank you Sunnyside Tavern for making my stay very memorable.

Was not aware rooms available.

Good service, pleasant staff. Husbands food was awesome. My food was terrible. I'm not fussy but my steak was tough, over cooked and definitely wasn't scotch fillet. Sorry not good enough.

Limited outdoor parking available.
We booked the biggest family room that can cater for 4 people, modern, clean and plenty of windows around. Fridge, TV, can use more hangers for the open style wardrobe, coffee pods are nice addition.

Recommendation for the accommodation : Window can be fully open, recommend fly screen and can help prevent those with suicide thought.
Water pooled underneath the shower, maybe ceramic can be tilted for better drainage.
We booked for 3 people, but was prepared 2 tea cups and 2 water glass. Shampoo and body shampoo dispenser provided. No tooth paste. Soap holder for the sink would be nice.

There is outside shared kitchen with coffee pod machine and kettle. Any check out prior to 10am, leave the key outside the door, and go down using stairs (no lift). Pub below with good food.

Stayed upstairs for a week whilst attending a course. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was great, I had the nightly special every night and each was incredibly tasty and fresh :)

Recently held an event at The Sunnyside Tavern. Shannon was brilliant to coordinate with and very easy going & relaxed to assist with whatever we needed for the evening. Had upto 50 guests to fit the private room with enough space. Catering was fantastic, food is always great here! Staff were really wonderful. All the guests commented on the service, the amazing tasty food provided. It made for a great experience and a wonderful time. Thank you to Shannon & the team. Would happily recommend future events for any type of function in the future.

I had booked this hotel for a function in June to have it canceled due to a double booking and with all my invitations printed and sent out. I'm extremely very disappointed with the Manager Luke I feel That I was overlooked, I would recommend in the future to be more honest and organised in your management of the hotel, I am a local resident of the area and will not ever step foot in your establishment thanks for nothing.

Stayed over the night very clean and tidy rooms.. staff were wonderful and helpful.. deffently be back and recommend to others..

Great atmosphere and fantastic menu in the bistro/restaurant.The specials menu has a good selection of favourites including everybody's favs.Buffalo wings ,sauce up and plenty of them.I have been there a few times now and the quality of the meals and the service is of a very high standard.

Very surprised, old school look on the outside yet nice and modern/charming on the inside. Great food, great service and very convenient location to walk to the footy at McDonald Jones Stadium. We'll definitely be back and hope to stay the night next time as I'm sure the accommodation won't disappoint either.
