Negative reviews are not for me! Worst experience ever! Girl at the bar said I was too drunk to get a drink when i hadn't ordered a drink yet. I do not recommend this place!

Honestly can't really think of too many places with $5 drinks in the city anymore, a real 2010s throwback. Plenty of pool tables too, I love it

Probably a better spot to visit weekdays as security can be a bit strict with dress on the weekends though!

Great place to play some cheap pool, only $2 a game (cash) or $2.2 (card). The tables are shorter but it does the job. Usually very empty around noon and afternoon

came here in feb with two people. got harassed by one of the men who proceeded to yell and threaten violence for 30 mins because i rejected him romantically. no security to be seen anywhere, I didn't feel safe here and no one stepped in to help,

Generally, I try not to write negative reviews as much as possible. but we are all looking for a place to spend a nice evening. and we are reading these comments. So I think everyone has a right to know about a place with bad security staff like Shark Hotel

We gathered at Shark Hotel to celebrate my friend's birthday with our friends. We were inside for a long time and I was out the door to deal with my phone. I saw that the security staff started to let visitors in with their IDs. "My everything is inside, can I go back in?" I asked. They said I should ask my friend to bring my ID. I told my friend and he brought me everything and I got in line. It was my turn, I showed my ID. but they said "you are drunk." and they didn't let me in. I said that I only bought 1 beer inside and half of the beer was still on my table, how could I get drunk? already, I said that I just got out of the inside, but they did not take it. I told the other security guard about the situation. "Maybe you drank somewhere else," etc said. I opened my bank app and showed him my last shopping breakdown. He looked in detail, and although he saw the $5 Shark hotel transaction, he walked away without saying anything. I tried to explain myself to the security guard who wouldn't let me back in but he said I had to walk away. my English is not very good. I am too respectful a person to argue with anyone for such a reason anyway. I returned home...

but I had to leave my friend's birthday party unfinished. this is a really lousy situation. How can you decide that a person is drunk? And how can you ruin someone's whole night, and whole day with such a wrong decision?

I also ask the hotel authorities to take care of it. Check out the security cameras, see what I'm drinking, and how many minutes ago I went to the door. look at my movements, any sign of drunkenness? what's the problem? Is it because I don't have enough English?
If you had bought a $100 breathalyzer, you would have not been hurting anyone. if this is really the problem...

I leave the comments to the visitors if the manager still doesn't do anything even though there have been complaints about "Security Staff" before me and dozens of others.

I arrived at the club at 11:53 on Saturday evening and I had only had around 2-4 drinks prior to attending the venue.
I presented my drivers licence upon request (a Queensland licence) and was immediately refused entry. The staff should understand their discretion as security guards in relation to refusing entry, particularly when their attendees are clearly sober and just there to enjoy their evening with their friends.

We had an event upstairs to see Collin hennerz last night and while we were waiting we were chilling and dancing at the pub downstairs. For no reason my boyfriend got kicked out claiming he was too drunk when he was completely fine and wasn't under the influence of anything. Because of this me and three other people missed out because the manager or security were being unreasonable

Enjoyed the music and sound but really shocked and felt so over charged for a Red Bull and Vodka ($21) and realy agro security at the door. Didn't feel safe. Won't be returning. Such a shame as it's the only club I've ever had issues with in Sydney.

Never changed.. that's the good things about it.. always busy on the weekends, dance music by DJ were good choice and everyone seems to be enjoying the time.. but pools, I wish they have more tables.. so we don't have to wait ???'

Shark Hotel is always a good option if you're with a large group as there's plenty of space and lots of pool tables. Tooheys New & XXXX Gold are $5 all day. The $10 pizzas are great too.

Security were extremely rude and singled a member of our group out, calling them a slur and inappropriately grabbing at their pants. I cannot in good faith recommend this place to anyone after the borderline assault on a SOBER member of our party.

Went here on a Tuesday night, found a glass shard in my drink, approached the manager about the issue and his response was, to put it bluntly, viscous. He showed no visible remorse and instead directed verbal abuse towards my friends and I claiming we had fabricated accusations and even going so far as to check the CCTV footage, realising his mistake. He refused to apologise and wouldn't look me in the face when I was talking to him. It is a key responsibility as a manager to look after your customers and to make them feel safe, I did not feel safe or cared for. I am highly disappointed and could never in good conscious recommend this place to anyone.

Amazing oysters! I did not expect to get that tastes and the freshness of the oysters. They are creamy, smooth, sweet and fresh. I was not sure at first that I should order the oysters today but I was craving them, so why not. And they did not disappoint me. I will definitely order the oysters from here again if I visit the place next time.
Drinks are always amazing great place to hang out with friends and playing pools which only accept cash so keep that in mind. There are plenty of pool tables. ?
Services, depends who's working really. Hospitality is tough sometimes dealing with diverse customers so no complaints about the staffs as we probably don't know what they have been through each day.

I absolutely must commend security working the night of LGBTQA+ party extra dirty. Professional, friendly and not overbearing. Sometimes gay events at straight venues feature homophobic staff. This certainly was not. The whole community talks, an absolutely if you want more bookings and more revenue. Keep doing what you're doing. The pink dollar is powerful and a safe space is one we always return to.

Occasional after work drinks on Fridays here always turn out to be great times that vibe well into the night. Reasonable priced drinks and surprisingly good oyster bar. Big enough space to mingle around and for a fun boogie here and there.

Went to a concert and paid $40 there and was kicked out because I offered drinks to guys(kind of friends) who was declined first and I didnt know they were.I am 100% sure I wasn't the problem because they didn't say anything before I went to buy drink and they kicked only me out, not other guys. its so unfair just because I offered a drink without a knowledged and I am the one getting kicked out. I now know to stay away from this hotel because of the security guards.

The first thing I noticed after entering was a Mouldy smell. The bartender was also not hospitable, especially the middle-aged woman. She was so rude to her staff, and she showed her anger by manhandling the glass, spilling beer all over it whilst demonstrating how to pour a pint and passed it to me without even wiping it. She needs to treat the new staff gently, and she should understand it takes time and experience for one to be a pro. Will never go there again.

Nice place and very reasonably priced drinks and pool. Although place has a rusty feel and it's a bit old.

Shark hotel has no business hosting events like Magic Men until it sorts out its lighting and shocking sound system. Venue is not at all equipped for these kinds of events. Fold out chairs on a dance floor and can't even see the stage from more than three rows back.

Reserved a space for my birthday over the weekend for a group of around 25 people. Staff were pleasant to deal with and the booking process was so easy and straight forward. Really glad I got to have my predrinks here since me and my friends use to come here quite often as fresh legal teenagers over a decade ago!

Your service was appalling. Waiting over an hour for 2 pizzas, which come from a different company and not even your own kitchen?!? Also another member of my party paid for the $5 wedges at the bar, waits 45 mins to only find out that the order didn't go through, atrocious. And the only compensation for that was getting a refund in cash?!? Nothing else. Save yourself the time and visit somewhere else. This place is not worth it.

A rather depressing experience. The bar staff were slow.
Then I waited half an hour for my food only to be brought the wrong thing. When my burger did arrive it came in a cardboard box and was thoroughly average. It was 50% off so I guess you get what you pay for but next time I'll just spend the extra money somewhere else.
There are better places in the city that have drinks for the same price but better atmospheres and better service.

I visited with a group of 25. We sat on 2 adjacent tables. Good food and drink prices, good atmosphere (no gross chemical smell on the whole floor like some Sydney pubs), music wasnt too loud so we could still have conversation. No complaints and staff treated us just fine. Would recommend for groups of all sizes. Big thanks to Jess Taylor from Events, who assisted us with a last minute booking - and with zero fuss, which is so unlike many Sydney pubs and restaurants!!!

Actually half price basic beers, wines and spirits! Plus food! So we had 4 beers and a big serve of chips for $25! Atmosphere was great for chilling and convo.

Great spot that actually care about their customers. The food is great value and they offer $5 drinks (beer, wine and spirits). They have a lot of pool tables and the staff are really friendly. Smiles all round. Definitely 5 stars for helping in tough times. Please go to Shark Bar and keep them busy so we can all continue to go and enjoy the venue.This might seem like I work for them but I dont lol. They deserve this review.

Great place to drink and chill. The drinks are cheap and best of all, when the guard say the place it full and only let one in one out rule. By the time I got in, there was plenty of space and seat and not having to squeeze through to the bar.

Soulless place downtown. The layout and offering is confusing. Bar counter in the centre has no menu for many of its drinks. And i half suspect the lady who served me that evening over charged me because no prices were displayed. Shark Hotel is correct.

Yep, still as good as it was many years ago. And I don't mean the hotel, I mean the restaurant within (holy basil). Thai/Laos cuisine, best when you have a few people so you can eat multiple dishes. Dessert pictures posted
