We were recently passing through Armidale and were told the Royal Hotel is the best stop to grab dinner. Sadly we were disappointed. The staff in the restaurant were abrasive and disinterested. I asked about a special that had been posted on social media a few hours before we arrived only to be told they don't do Special's on this night and several of the items I would have chosen were all crossed off the menus. We got the chalkboard menu of the pork ribs and they were ok. The bbq sauce was very sweet and the meat not so tender. As we were being served our meals, other patrons who had arrived and ordered before us were being informed that the kitchen had run out of potatoes and the elderly diners couldn't have mash and would have to choose chips or salad- how the hell does a restaurant run out of potatoes or instant mash ? There's a Coles over the road !! Send someone over to get it urgently !
Overall it was an ok meal, but next time we will just go to the RSL club as we'd discussed earlier in the night.

Basic rooms with comfortable beds, bathrooms were clean. Good value.

I loved coming here when I was visiting Armidale! The chips are 10/10, staff are lovely and the atmosphere is nice. I hope I can come back soon!

When we booked our accommodation for the Royal Hotel it didn't state it was shared bathroom amenities not ensuite in rooms.
Bathroom was clean but no floor mat to use and one of the lights didn't work.
The room was large and clean but there was no where to hang or put your clothes.
There was no air conditioning for the room and a very small fan high up on the wall and did very little, hardly moved the air around and the remote didn't work.
The small table and chairs were so wobbly I'm surprised they didn't break when sat on.
The windows opened but no fly screens.
There was no lamp in the room .
Luckily they had a small common area with aircon, tv, lounge ,microwave ,fridge and coffee/tea area.
If I didn't sit there I would have broiled in the room.
The pub was nice and the food was good.
We'll set up for winter not great for hot weather.
Staff were very friendly and efficient.

Room was small but very clean, as were the common room and the bathrooms. Service was great, all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Good budget accommodation in the centre of town. Would stay here again.

I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. My bed was comfy and everything was clean & fresh. Impossible to fault the location, with just about everything you could need less than a few hundred metres away. The hot water in the ladies bathroom literally takes around 5 minutes to start to come through (unless someone else has just been running it), so keep your clothes on if you want to have a shower until it does or you'll freeze to death ? There was no toilet paper at all in any of the toilets by the 3rd day and the bin in the communal lounge was overflowing - I had to notify a member of staff before this was rectified. My biggest problem though was the level of noise on Fri & Sat nights. Whilst this is to be expected & the hotel does state in advance that weekends are noisier, it was far louder than reasonable (especially considering the rooms cost more on these nights). I think my room was directly above the speakers &/or stage because the walls & window were actually vibrating at times and I couldn't hear the TV even though it's right at the end of the bed only a few metres away from my ears. So whilst I enjoyed my stay at the Royal Hotel Armidale from Tues to Thurs nights I could not recommend staying there on Fri or Sat, especially given that there are quiet venues not far away that cost only a small amount more.

Rooms are okay. The windows have no net protections installed, so opening them has a high risk of mosquitoes getting in. The bathroom are shared and need a key to access which i wasnt given until i had to ask them, there is only a fridge, no freezer, a microwave, no sink, sometimes there is drinking water provided. Staff are hard to find, dont pick up calls, and dont reply to email enquiries. You have to drag your luggage over a huge set of creaky/loud stairs with no assistance, not accessible to those with disabilities. Overall, it was not a great experience.

Ordered lamb roast on Sunday. We waited 1 hour and 30 mins and the table next to us went up and complained. They arrived after us. They were given my meal.

Waiter comes over 10 mins later and says we have run out of the lamb. I would avoid unless you like being disappointed.

We were there for first service ordered at 6. 6 or 7 roasts ordered before us.

Very reasonable drink and meal prices . (I am looking at New England pub). Best chips in Armidale. Chicken schnitzel is too thick so they have to cook it longer so it's always crusty and tough. -1 point for chicken. But chips are super great. Also they should use maggi original sauce not whatever they are using. Overall one of the best pub meals in Armidale. Recommended (just not the chicken)

Waited 1.5hrs for a pulled pork burger priced at 25$ "special"... that tasted like spam during the Vietnam war.

Rooms don't smell too good. Broken toilet seat. Not the best. I didn't realise shared bathrooms. It's my fault. Not the best value for what they are. I'm not likely to be back.
It's definitely an experience.

Steak cooked perfectly to order.
And a tasty tasty pepper sauce.

The venue was clean and tidy, plus nice and warm on a cold evening.

Comfortable bed, room wasn't bad for the money. A bit noisy at night.

Don't know how to deal with customer problems. I've did my room booking 1 week in advance found a problem in room and notify them. Continuously ignoring by the staff and not admitting their fault.

You get what you pay for and if you just want to sleep and shower then it's great! Well situated in the heart of Armidale.

Ordered pumpkin and avocado salad
Received pumpkin and no avocado. Asked why and the received mashed avocado. Ordered beer battered fish (22$) received fish and chips special $14.. was told it was all they had. Not told prior. Then after commenting I was offered difference 8$. Then I was told it was a kitchen mistake... unlikely to return..

Would give no stars if I could.
The server was rude and gave my family lots of dirty looks. He was throwing cutlery around slamming plates - looked like he was throwing a little tantrum.
The food took over an hour before making it to our table.

The room was acceptable, small, but the sheets and towels were clean.
The communal area was poorly resourced, no fresh milk or teaspoons!
When I asked for the WIFI password I was treated rudely by the staff.
Hostile signs throughout the hallways made me feel like I was staying in a half way house.
Lastly, the noise was appalling, my worst hotel experience ever.

Great comfortable and inviting environment. Great food, service and beers.

Do not stay in this hotel if you actually plan on sleeping. The bar downstairs has a sound system that has an automatic shut off around 2:30-3am, even on weeknights. According to the manager, "sometimes they turn it off when they go home, sometimes they don't". I didn't get much sleep the night before my exam that I was in town for, then had to drive 6 hours home afterwards while very tired which was dangerous. I was practically in tears when I checked out the next morning because of the horrible experience and the lady working there didn't even care enough to tell the manager. A month later I get a phone call apology, but it turns out they only called because their booking site that I paid through had an error and they wanted my credit card directly. He did offer me a meal voucher for when I'm next in town but I'm never going back there and shouldn't have even had to pay for the last night. What a terrible place for accomodation! Don't bother calling yourself a hotel! For anyone reading this, it's a great place to go for dinner but save yourself a bad night and stay somewhere else.

Booked through a booking website. Would not recommend this place at all. Heater coming off the wall. Shared bathrooms. Broken windows. Was NO mention about this being a pub on original site booked or the noise that would occur. Didn't get to sleep until 3 am when music was turned off/ although people carried on outside after close. Accommodation price was high at the time due to an event happening in town. Not worth it.
Rude staff members.

Room was very small just beds and TV in it. They had shared kitchen kettle, tea and coffee no cups pretty stuiped. Men's toilets unlocked but women's need key and no one told me this so had to use men's toilet with supervision of husband so other men don't walk in on me, men's toilet was not clean and only one toilet that actually worked. Food downstairs was nice but some food needs to be worked on. Staff was friendly but I will not be coming back again.

Good apart from everytime my partner gets royal mixed grill,he gets bad food poisoning.

We had a fantastic dinner delivered right to our door within 15mins of placing order.

Great beer and food at the Royal hotel. We were lucky enough to visit the Royal tonight whilst travelling to QLD. Nice cold beer n variety of wines. We had the grilled barramundi n prawns with salad n chips. It was delicious and plenty of it. The staff were lovely and we highly recommend the Royal Hotel, Armidale.

Fast and friendly service. Kids menu is spot on and the main menu offers great variety and very good value

Typical gentrified country pub. Has some nice beers on tap and local drops, typical pub grub menu.Tradie/after work vibes but transformes into 18-20's student - 'I'm to old for this' party vibes past 10pm.

Always a great meal here. This place is family friendly and has a playroom for the kids. Great staff and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
