Recently moved into the area and as a keen pub grub enthusiast I had to give the local a try, first time here I ordered a steak cooked medium and it came back rare, wife was happy with her schnitzel so 1 out of 2 meals wasn't bad.
Few months later I heard they had new owners so wanted to give them another try and this time they got the steak right but burnt the schnitzel, honey mustad on the salad was an odd choice for dressing and garlic bread was a big let down, don't know how difficult it is to stuff up garlic bread but they found a way. The only thing they got right here was the mash and the chips, they turned out perfect.
Overall it's a very dark and dingy pub, not many drinks on tap, they got rid of the TAB, a pool table as old as the pub itself and an uncomfortable atmosphere from the staff and regular patrons.
Hope the other pub in town reopens soon and the club gets some decent food because i'd have to be really desperate to return to the Royal.
